Chapter 42 - Chapter 39: Nelson & Murdock!

(Attendance please…)

….

One Day Later, Josie's Bar, Hell's Kitchen:-

The scene shifts. The gleaming, futuristic world of the Avengers gives way to the gritty, grounded reality of Hell's Kitchen at night.

The air in Josie's Bar is thick with the smell of cheap beer, stale smoke, and a kind of weary authenticity. Laughter, the clack of pool balls, and the low murmur of conversation fill the space.

At the center of it all, celebrating their recent, monumental victory over Wilson Fisk, are Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson.

They're laughing, playing a terrible game of pool, and drinking the cheapest beer Josie's has on tap. The mood is light, filled with their characteristic, rapid-fire banter.

"To Nelson and Murdock!" Foggy declared, raising his beer bottle in a toast, nearly sloshing it onto the felt of the pool table. "We put the Kingpin of Crime, the big man himself, behind bars! We're on top of the world, Matty!"

Matt, a small, genuine smile on his face as he lined up a shot, replied without looking up, "We're on top of a barstool in Hell's Kitchen, Foggy. Let's not get ahead of ourselves."

"Details, details," Foggy waved a dismissive hand. "The point is, clients should be banging down our door! We're the giant-killers! The little guys who took down Goliath! We should be drowning in cases!"

Just then, Karen Page joined them, a slightly more serious expression on her face.

The mood shifted, just a fraction. She brought with her the harsh reality of their situation.

They might have taken down the Kingpin, but they were still broke. They had no new clients, their landlord was threatening eviction again, and their last major "payment" from a grateful client had been a freshly baked rhubarb pie.

They were heroes, but they were also desperately, realistically, broke.

"We'll get through it, Karen," Matt said, his voice calm and reassuring, after she'd laid out their dire financial straits. "We always do. I know that."

Foggy joked, trying to lighten the mood again, "Are you a prophet now, Matt? Or what? Did you see a vision of a winning lottery ticket in your braille law books?"

Matt smiled. "Something like that." For now, he was just happy that Wilson Fisk was in a place where he deserved to be, even if the trial would likely be a long, drawn-out affair.

The conversation eventually turned to the other major news story dominating the city. "And what about this Gojo Satoru?" Foggy asked, leaning against the pool table. "The news is having a field day, calling him a mass murderer of thousands. It's crazy."

Matt, who had been listening to the cacophony of opinions on the street all day, shook his head slightly. "I don't know," he said, his tone measured.

"But we can't just assume someone is guilty without looking into all the facts. And the way the news is broadcasting his face, day and night… they're doing it for ratings, for money. They're creating a narrative, not reporting a story."

"But he's… " Karen added, a note of sympathy in her voice. "From his picture, he looks like he's only eighteen, nineteen years old, maybe."

"Well, we can't be sure about any of it," Matt said. "It's all tied up with the Avengers. I think they'll handle it all internally."

"I mean," Foggy mused, "this person has every legal right to sue the hell out of all the media outlets that are printing this stuff about him without any concrete evidence or strong proof. Just saying, if we got his case, with Tony Stark, the billionaire, backing him? We wouldn't have to worry about money, or pie, ever again."

"Yeah," Karen agreed. "If I were him, I'd sue all of them and get a big fat check."

And just like that, their night went on, a mix of celebration, financial worry, and idle speculation, filled with the easy camaraderie of friends who had been through hell and back together.

….

The Next Day, Nelson and Murdock, Attorneys at Law:-

The office was… humble. Most of their days, when they didn't have a case, were spent like this.

Foggy was on the phone, trying his best to drum up some business, to find clients who needed legal help but couldn't afford the big, fancy law firms.

Karen was at her desk, organizing files, paying bills they couldn't afford, doing whatever she could to keep their small operation afloat.

And Matt was at his desk, his fingertips gracefully gliding over the dotted pages of a braille legal document. They were broke, and they were, for the moment, just… there.

Clink.

The small bell on their office door chimed as it opened. Karen looked up, a flicker of hope in her eyes. A client? She wasn't wrong. But who the client was… that was a little unbelievable.

A young man with striking white hair and round, dark sunglasses stood in the doorway. A small, scruffy dog with a bandaged leg was at his side.

He was wearing a simple white shirt and black pants, but he carried himself with an air of effortless confidence that seemed to fill their small office.

It was, unmistakably, Gojo Satoru.

Gojo looked around the office, a small, curious smile on his face. "Have to say," he commented, his voice light, "the office is pretty nice. Cozy. But it is… somewhat empty."

He walked straight to Karen's desk, Mochi trotting happily beside him. "Satoru Gojo," he said, by way of introduction. "I'm here for Nelson and Murdock."

Foggy, hearing a voice, came out from his small, partitioned office. He stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes widening as he instantly recognized the man from the news. Who wouldn't?

Karen Page, momentarily stunned, found her voice. "Ah… yes… of course," she stammered. "Um… Foggy… Matt… I think we have a client."

….

Five Minutes Later, Nelson and Murdock Small Conference Room:-

The small, cluttered conference room at Nelson and Murdock felt unusually charged.

On one side of the worn wooden table sat Matt, Foggy, and Karen, their expressions a mixture of disbelief, curiosity, and professional focus.

On the other side sat their new, and by far most infamous, potential client: Satoru Gojo. In his lap, Mochi was curled up contentedly, her tail giving a soft thump-thump-thump as Gojo absently stroked her fur.

Matt, his senses taking in Gojo's steady heartbeat and the almost unnervingly calm rhythm of his breathing, was the first to speak, breaking the slightly awkward silence.

"So, Mr. Satoru," he began, his tone carefully neutral, "let me make sure I have this correct. You want to hire… us?"

Gojo looked up, a slight, almost teasing smile on his face. "Is that so hard to believe?" he asked. "I mean, you are lawyers for hire, right? Or is your schedule already too packed with… you know… pie-paying clients?"

"Why us, exactly?" Matt pressed, his head tilted slightly as if listening for something beyond the words. "Because from what we understand, you have the backing of Tony Stark. You could afford any big, expensive law firm in the city, the kind with marble floors and fancy coffee machines. What I can't quite understand is why you chose us."

Gojo chuckled, a light, easy sound. "It seems you two aren't really aware of your own outstanding performance, and the popularity that's slowly rising around you," he said, leaning forward slightly.

"Two lawyers, fresh out of law school, take on and put away the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk. You sided with justice, with the little guy. And, not to mention," he added, a hint of genuine respect in his voice, "I heard that you helped people even when they had no money, no way to pay, as long as you believed they were innocent."

Foggy shifted uncomfortably, a flush creeping up his neck. "Well… we really didn't know that part, the… uh… popularity part, was a thing."

"You're both quite humble, then," Gojo replied. "I also heard that a big, prestigious law firm, Landman and Zack, where you were both interns, offered you very lucrative jobs, but you both declined. You turned down the money and the prestige because you wanted to open your own practice, to help people who really needed it. That's… admirable. And rare."

Matt, processing this, steered the conversation back to the matter at hand. "And so, you want to sue the media outlets, the newspapers, the blogs… the ones that are printing stories about you, using your image to sell papers and get clicks, slandering you without any concrete proof."

"Yes," Gojo said, his smile widening into a grin. "Me. A poor, innocent young man, being wrongfully convicted in the court of public opinion for something I technically did do, but which was, you know, for the good of everyone on the planet." He gave Mochi another gentle scratch behind the ears, the picture of aggrieved innocence.

A/N: So, How was it? Well, i wont really go deep into the daredevil show. Peter parker become spider man like 5 months from now on, as civil war is like 1 year away, i'm thinking of involving daredevil and spider man early on.

There wont be any court scenes i will write but they will be behind the scene ones. From this gojo will be free from media and bradcasting station.

I know many people just wanted a straight timeskip to civil war, but i just thought of why not remove the gojo news completely feom the media by sueing them, and that way it wint look like forced plot of involving daredevil into this.
