Chapter Seven – Shadows of the Past
The peace of dawn was shattered by the distant howl of a wolf, sharp and full of warning.
Selene's eyes snapped open. She was no stranger to danger—not anymore—but something about that howl sent a chill through her bones.
Kaien stirred beside her, muscles tensing as he reached for his dagger. Kairo was already moving, silent as a shadow.
"We're not alone," Kaien said grimly.
Selene pulled the blankets tighter around her, heart pounding.
"Is it Darius?" she whispered.
Kairo's gaze darkened. "More than him. His pack—and the council. They don't see this bond as natural. They see it as a threat."
A knock echoed at the door. A messenger, breathless and anxious, handed Kaien a sealed note.
Kaien broke the seal with a flick of his knife, scanning the contents quickly.
"They've sent an envoy," he said, voice cold. "Demanding Selene's return—or war."
Selene's breath caught. The past she'd tried to escape was closing in fast.
"We'll face them," Kaien vowed. "Together."
Kairo stepped forward, placing a firm hand on Selene's shoulder.
"No matter what happens, you're not alone. We fight for you. For us."
The room seemed to hold its breath as Selene looked from one twin to the other, the weight of their bond settling heavy—but unbreakable—around her.
Her past was a shadow, but with Kaien and Kairo, she might just have a chance to rewrite her future.
