Chapter 4 - guild?

Slow steps, Shyam entered the guild but saw only a few people inside. Some stood behind the light of the world—corners. Some stared at the quest board as if staring at it would make the quests easier.

Shyam walked towards the guild lady who wore a green dress, a red string tied at her back. She had a hat on, yet her brown hair could still be seen. She had dark black eyes, and her expression seemed like that of someone who didn't care much about life.

"Hello," Shyam said.

"Huh?" the woman replied, as if she was annoyed by him. Though Shyam himself couldn't figure out why—he had only said hello.

"What do you want?" said the lady again while giving Shyam a side-eye. She wouldn't care if Shyam was a person from another world. To her, everyone was the same.

"I would like to register as an adventurer, please," Shyam gritted his teeth but held onto his morals.

In his previous life, he had seen many people exactly like this lady—acting like they didn't care if the world ended, but later turning out to be all talk.

He kept a good smile on his face.

"Do you now? Alright, fill this form," said the lady, handing Shyam a document. Shyam looked at it for a moment before writing down the required information. But before he touched the paper, he suddenly remembered something—he didn't know the language of this world. Yes, he could translate instantly and automatically, but he couldn't write in this language. He didn't even know what language they spoke here.

"Hey Raitha, help me here, will you?" Shyam murmured, sweating the hell out of himself. Came like a hero who saved the world, and now couldn't even write down some basic information. In his previous life, he had known over four languages. His only wish now was that Raitha, his ii, could help him write—the language he hadn't even seen before today.

"Eh, just write in whichever language you speak. It'll automatically be transcribed into their language. Simple," Raitha said. Her tone was enough to make anyone doubt their existence. The way she said it seemed less like an explanation and more like criticism—a flint arrow thrown right at Shyam's heart.

"You didn't have to say it like that," said Shyam, who finally touched the paper with the pen he had been given to write down his information.

• Name {Shyam}

• Class {Mage, Swordsman}

When he was just a teenager, he had dreamt of becoming a mage—someone who would cast spells and burn his enemies into ashes. But that small little dream could never become a reality, as he lived in a world where magic wasn't a thing. But now… now he had been reincarnated to a place where almost anyone could become a mage. Use magic and even maybe summon demons.

He gave back the document and, just a few moments later, that lady gave him a card—a symbol that he was now officially an adventurer. Shyam held the card like it was the most precious thing he had ever held. It really was. He quickly put it in his pocket.

"F rank, huh? Well, soon enough I'll become as strong as an A rank for sure!" Shyam whispered.

"When you complete ten quests in a row, you will be awarded an E rank card. Unfortunately, areas like this can only offer up to E rank, so you'll have to go to the cities or kingdom capital to become an A rank adventurer," the lady said as she handed Shyam a piece of paper.

"Here, complete this task to complete your registration."

She gave Shyam his first ever task—it was to test him.

"Alright, thanks," Shyam said and left the adventurer guild. It was the afternoon. Shyam walked slowly outside the village as he explored more features of the ii he had been given by the Yamdut who killed him by accident. Although he was still angry at that, nor could he fully believe he had been reincarnated—but even if it's a dream, he wanted to enjoy being someone he had always wanted to be.

"A shop? What's this?" Shyam murmured as he walked along the stone path built outside the village as a road.

"Well, it's what it sounds like—a shop. Virtual shop. You can use real-life currency in exchange for techniques, items, weapons, etc. You can even sell items there, but you'll be at a 50% loss doing so," said Raitha as she finally transformed into her true form.

"Oh yeah? Cool!" Shyam said. A few minutes later, he had finally reached the same forest where he had been reincarnated just this morning.

"Alright, time to kill 10 slimes!" Shyam said and stepped inside the forest like a king!

Two hours later —⟩

"Where are the slimes!" Shyam shouted in frustration. He had found many slimes before leaving the forest, and now he couldn't find even a single one here! Almost like they ran away as soon as Shyam became an adventurer—just so he would fail his test and probably lose his adventurer license.

"Ahhh!" A scream from somewhere deeper into the forest—one that sounded like a girl's—came rushing through the dense woods. As soon as Shyam heard the scream, he ran as fast as he could towards it.

But the trees were just too dense, and bushes were everywhere. Before Shyam reached the area where the scream came from, his field sense alerted him of many low-level monsters nearby.

"She must be in danger if my field sense is sensing monsters there," Shyam murmured as he ran faster and faster. Finally passing through the last bush, he saw a girl wrapped with sticky slimes—and many surrounded her.

"Lucky me," Shyam whispered and jumped straight into the scene.

"Help me!!" the girl kept screaming, louder now, as if she feared Shyam would take advantage of her. But Shyam did nothing and ignored her. He was only here because he saw slimes, which he needed. Her screams didn't matter all that much to him.

But the noise she made did bother him a little bit, though—still, he managed.

He kicked the slimes and punched a few. Sometimes he would even shout "Dash!" out loud whenever his MP recovered. And soon, he had killed off every slime there and picked up all the energy stones.

"Seventeen in total, great!" Shyam whispered as he walked towards the exit of the forest.

"Hey! Aren't you going to save me?" That girl, still stuck in the slime, rolled, jumped, even crawled—but nothing got the slime off her. She couldn't just go back looking like this.

"I have already saved you plenty, miss. Help yourself," Shyam said, not stopping at her request.

For starters, she was the one who mistook him for a pervert—so it was obvious he wouldn't even look at her. But she kept calling, shouting—and when nothing worked, she followed him.

"Woah! Go away from me!" Shyam said, trying to push her away.

"Get this slime off of me, then I will," the girl said as she fell down to the ground.

"Aow man, this is why I don't like women other than my mom, wife, daughter, and maybe a few other women," Shyam whispered and finally gave in.

"Okay, tell me how I can get this thing off you," Shyam said—or more like asked, whatever.

"Here, use this knife to cut off the slime," the girl said as she brought out a sharp knife. The reflection alone made it look more dangerous than it was. Shyam's entire body vibrated—goosebumps. That knife was sharp enough to slice through his or her body like cheese.

"A... Are you sure?" Shyam asked, trying to think of other ways.

"Yeah, I'm sure. Just do it already! It feels very stinky."

"If you say so," Shyam murmured and took the knife from her.

He was still afraid of both the girl and the knife—but he was more afraid of what the villagers would think. Not that he cared, but he was in a world where he knew nobody, and nobody knew him...

If they wanted to, they could chop off his head at any moment and he wouldn't even realise. He had already realised that much—seeing this sharp knife in the hands of a 17-year-old girl.

Slowly but steadily, he cut off the slime, and the girl finally took a breath of relief.

"Thank you, uhh..."

"Shyam. I'm Shyam, and you?" Shyam said as he handed the knife back.

"Oh! I'm Pallabi, an F-rank adventurer. Are you an adventurer as well?" Pallabi asked. She had seen Shyam fight off those slimes even without a weapon.

That gave her the conclusion that he might also be an adventurer.

"Yes, I was on my first test. Thankfully, it went well—thanks to your help," Shyam said as he turned to the exit and started walking. Pallabi walked behind him.

"Really? Wow, you fight so well!"

Pallabi said impressed by shyam's fighting skills. Of course she would, the way shyam fought was nothing like she did.
