Episode 2: Shadows and Smoke
The night erupted into chaos in a heartbeat.
Sirens screamed from every direction, mingling with the thunder of helicopter blades and the harsh barks of orders crackling over radios. The air was thick with tension — every second felt like a countdown to disaster.
Julian led the team through the twisting, shadowed corridors beneath the vault's surface. Their footsteps echoed softly, a fragile rhythm against the backdrop of a city scrambling to respond.
Max's voice cut through the static in Julian's ear. "No sign of Carter. His last ping was near the east wing—thirty seconds ago. Then… nothing."
Carter. The tech genius whose fingers danced over servers and security grids, erasing footprints and masking their movements. Losing him was like cutting off their lifeline.
Julian's jaw clenched hard. "We're not losing anyone else. Move faster."
Outside the compound, the scene was a war zone.
Armored vehicles thundered in, engines growling like beasts unleashed. Snipers positioned themselves on rooftops, their rifles gleaming under floodlights as they tracked every shadow. Drones buzzed relentlessly, their night vision lenses scanning for even the faintest movement.
Back underground, the team reached their rendezvous point — a concealed garage hidden beneath layers of concrete and steel. A few seconds of respite, if only to catch their breath.
Julian motioned sharply. "Load the trucks. We have fifteen miles to disappear."
As the team hustled into the armored vehicles, a figure emerged from the darkness — Eve, the sniper with ice in her veins and a mind sharper than any blade.
Her gaze locked on Julian's. "There's a leak," she said flatly, voice barely above a whisper. "Someone's feeding intel to the authorities."
A cold silence fell.
Julian's mind spun. The betrayal wasn't just about Carter going dark — it was someone inside the team, someone who knew their every move.
He met Max's eyes, searching for answers. "Find them. Before they find us."
The engines roared to life, armored trucks tearing through the underground tunnels and bursting out into the cold night air.
The city's chaos swallowed them whole as the convoy sped toward freedom.
But the enemy was relentless.
Bullets kicked up dust and shattered concrete around them. Explosions lit up the night, sending shockwaves through the armored steel.
The convoy split, weaving through side streets and alleyways, using every trick to lose their pursuers.
Inside one truck, Max frantically tapped at his tablet, trying to scramble signals and erase digital footprints.
Beside him, Carter's absence weighed heavy.
Julian's voice was a steady anchor amid the storm. "Stay sharp. This isn't just a chase—it's a hunt. And we're the prey."
Eve's sniper scope caught movement ahead—a glint of a flashbang grenade tossed from a rooftop.
She fired twice, the crack of her rifle sharp and precise, neutralizing the threat before it could detonate.
The convoy pushed on.
Minutes stretched like hours.
Then, through the haze of smoke and chaos, a new threat emerged.
A convoy of black SUVs—heavily armed and armored—cut them off. The enemy had brought reinforcements.
Julian's heart thundered.
They were trapped.
But surrender was not an option.
"Prepare for combat," he ordered, voice cold and commanding.
Bullets ricocheted as the trucks' doors slid open. D7's members emerged, weapons drawn, ready to fight.
The streets became a battlefield.
Helicopters swooped low, searchlights scanning the melee. The air filled with the roar of gunfire, the smell of smoke and burning rubber.
Amid the chaos, Julian caught a glimpse of a shadow slipping away from the fight—someone moving with purpose and secrecy.
The traitor.
His mind raced.
If they didn't stop the leak, the entire operation—and everyone in it—would be lost.
With a grim resolve, Julian tightened his grip on his rifle.
The real war was just beginning.
