Chapter 32 - Act 3 (4) ACADEMY

"You all, might be wondering how we chose the best performers from the 66. Here's how we chose them.

Every 2nd day there'll be a 20 over match. For 1 Month.

Than ever 3 days. There will be a 50 Over match for 1 Month, for the 2nd month."

She took a pause beofre speaking again.

Finally, There will be around 3 Test Matches in the 3rd month."

Everyone was surprised, especially by the 3rd Month's Schedule.

3 test matches?

That means there will be 1 every 10 days. I'll presume it's 5 day.

"Ofcourse, It's a tournament format. And the highest winner gets... These Top class equipment. They can have extra bats, They can take extra time in the Field.

Even challenge other teams to games. You can go on trips entirely sponsered by the Academy."

Woah, woah, woah... Those are a lot of things, there.

"Does that mean, we can practice how much ever we want on the track? even skipping Classes?"

"Yes, If you want... You can skip classes for a week and play in the field all day long... But, For developmental purposes i'd suggest everyone take every practical class possible."

So... If we have a t20 match on the 2nd, than we will have to take classes on 1st.

"The average practice timings are from 5-8, in the evening and 7-9 in the morning."

And, we get practice hours aswell.

So we also increase our technical play, while understanding the game as a whole and on top of that getting practical match experience by playing games against other teams.

"As you can already guess with your numbers. There are a total of 66 of you, and will be divided into about 6 groupe. There are around 3 geounds in total, so you can play matches."

"Except for the usual matches, there's always a dedicated time atleast twice a week where you can play small 5-8 over matches just for practice. You'll get to do that in days when there's no matches to play."

"The purpose of these small matches is to increase match awareness. We'll give both teams certain tagrget to chase and defend in certain overs. That way, we can see what approach you take and just how sensably you can play when there is and isn't purchase in the Pitches. Including The weather, the Outfield and everything else aswell."

Hmm, that's a very good Plan. I'm in awe at how well prepared they are with scheduling and everything.

"You'll also do fielding drills, Test match fielding drills, and other things like that. You'll run sprint and jog aswell. Stamina, Technique, Placement, Accuracy, Speed, Swing, seam, Spin, We'll teach you everything that you need to know."

They are definately dedicated, theyvare even going as far as to teach every thing starting from The basics of rules all the way to Technique & Power.

They are definately not half assing this.

But, that's to be expected... Considering they bought in one of the best English Coaches of cricket to South Korea.

She may have her reasons to come here but that doesn't change the fact that she's a big figure in the cricketing world.

and, She's showing it.

"Now... I'll get to the point of why i called you here. I want All the bowlers, Batsman, All rpunders to line up in seperate lines."

"There are around 6 nets at the back of the stadium, I want you to go there. There are 3 staff members monitoring you, Show them what your potential is and they'll evaluagmte you so i can gauge your SWOT Analysis, To teach you better."

as she said that, she dispersed us.

and we walked toeards the Pitches.

...

I'm sure they have already gauged my weakness, if not they wouldn't have told me to stand on this insanely swinging Pitch.

It's not just the swing, It's just Tuening off the ground

Not, in the air.

Whuch makes it even harder to discern where the ball is turning once it pitches.

Making me quite vulnerable.

"Hey you, Come here."

So, she finally called me.

What's she gonna say.

"Take the off stump guard and play for the inswing & the outswing."

"Yes?"

I was confused as to what she's suggesting here.

"Haa... Keep your eyes peeled to the ball. Your weakness isn't the swing itself, It's the fact that you aren't looking at the ball properly. There's minimal footwork, when there's swing on offer, people like you should more often than not, Pre determine where the ball is coming before it comes, or else... You won't survive."

"Y... yes."

"Leave the off stump balls while defend the ones coming inside. That's only possible if you take the off stump guard. Play the inswing and the Half volley balls and leave the outswinging Good length balls. Because more often than not if the ball isn't pitching On Middle and Off, it's definately not going to hit the stumps."

"Yes ma'am."

Sh she's telling me to just leave the off stump ball while playing the inswing, Waiting for A half volley/length ball or to wait for the swing to end.

"That's how top batters play, It appears that you are questioning my decision. It's better to evade your weakness rather than going hook line and sinker on a ball which you know won't result on a happy ending so to speak. So, evade all the bad luck... waiting for that part of good luck and cash in from there."

"Yes ma'am."

It felt like the more i heard her the more i feel like i understand what i need to do.

Take an off stump guard and evade, the outswing and play for the inswing.

I feel like i get the general idea.

"Hey you, You need to grip the ball better. What you are doing can't be called gripping, It's more like you are trying to destroy the ball with force than gripping it. Let me show you. Gripping doesn't necessarily mean, Holding it with higher force-"
