Chapter 6 - Blind Love

"I'm not done talking to you!" Jackson said harshly as Grace left for her room. She wasn't fully recovered, so she couldn't stand for long. Moreover, she and Claire had just had a fight. Her energy had been drained very much.

Grace didn't want to care. She was no longer trying to look good in front of her husband; she was no longer trying to please him. Now all that mattered to her was her own happiness, as well as the safety of her future baby.

"Grace!" Jackson snapped. He was very annoyed that his wife was making such a fuss at this early hour. The woman didn't even care what he said; Grace continued to walk up the stairs to her room on the second floor.

"Never mind, Jack. I'm fine, so there's no need to make a big deal out of it." Claire tried to put on an innocent face. She was really very good at acting. She should have just become an actress.

"If only he could be a little kinder. You're very understanding, Claire. I don't know why there are women as selfish as her. Her personality is so bad, it's a far cry from yours." Jackson said with annoyance.

"Maybe she's just jealous of our relationship. I can understand why she doesn't like me; she must feel that I've taken you away from her." Claire smiled slightly. She hugged Jackson's arm tightly, then rested her head on his shoulder.

"She's the one who took you away from me. If I could have refused grandmother's request back then, you would have been my wife by now. You should be the mistress of this house." Jackson regretted it. He rubbed Claire's head gently, then kissed her affectionately. He was happy that Claire was now living with him, so he could control everything related to Claire. He could always make sure that Claire was okay. At least that was all he could do now.

"Jack, my body is a little sore from what happened just now. Can I ask for money to go to the doctor?" Claire looked up; she looked at Jackson with a pleading look to gain sympathy.

"I'll take you to see a doctor." Jackson didn't want Claire to feel any distress.

"No, I don't want to trouble you. You have to go to the office now anyway, don't you?" Claire tried to make excuses. She just wanted money for fun. If Jackson drove her to the hospital, he would immediately find out that she was okay.

"Okay. Whatever makes you feel good." Jackson smiled slightly. He took out his wallet, then took one of the cards from there. "You don't have to ask me for any more money. It has an unlimited balance, so you can use it for anything you want." The man handed it over generously. He had spent tens of millions of dollars just to please Claire from then until now. However, he had never spent a single dollar on his wife. There was a clear gap of affection there.

"Thank you, Jack. You're very kind." Claire smiled widely. She was very happy, as she had never been short of money since she met Jackson. In the past, she even had to beg with her parents for money to eat. However, her world became full of luxuries since Jackson brought her home.

"Anything and anytime." Jackson smiled sweetly. He looked down, kissed Claire's lips for a few seconds, and then left for the office.

On the other side of the place, Grace was lying on her bed. Her face looked pale with cold sweat breaking out. It seemed that she had to skip work today, as she felt physically unable to do much.

He didn't know why Jackson always believed every word Claire said. Even with just a glance, everyone could tell that Grace was not well. Maybe this is what is called blind love. Jackson's love for Claire has closed his eyes and heart to see the truth.

Don't know what Claire's superiority is that made Jackson love her that much. From any perspective, it is clear that Grace is superior in all aspects. She is prettier, more charming, more educated, and has a better career. Meanwhile Claire couldn't do anything other than ask Jackson for money.

The ringing of the cell phone broke Grace's thoughts. She reached out for the cell phone on the nightstand and accepted the call. The call turned out to be from Shane.

"Are you okay? I didn't see you in the office this morning; did something happen to you?" Shane sounded very panicked when Grace received the call.

Grace took a deep breath. Now he realized one thing: so far, Shane has been the only man who has always been there for her. Maybe because they have been relative and lived together since childhood, their inner bond is so close.

'If only Jackson was as attentive as you, Shane.' Grace said to herself.

She liked every attention Shane gave her. With Shane she felt genuine affection. If Shane were not a child of the Brown family, she would choose this man to be her life partner. Suddenly she regretted her decision to marry Jackson. However, she didn't have any choice now. She must maintain her household even though there is only one pillar of support. She lost her parents when she was little; now she can't lose her husband or her child.

"Grace." Shane called out confused because Grace didn't respond to his question.

"Uh, yeah? What's wrong, Shane?"

"You are okay?"

"I'm feeling a little unwell, so I'm taking the day off work today. I will send the file for the presentation via email; please replace me for the presentation in front of the client." Grace answered softly.

"Okay, just send me the file. I will win this project for you." Shane never refused her requests.

"Thanks, Shane."

"Do I need to buy medicine for you? Jackson takes good care of you, doesn't he?" Shane asked to make sure. Until now, Shane and his family have never known the hardships that Grace has experienced in the Forest family home. They think Grace is happy with the life path she has chosen.

"Yes, he takes good care of me. So, you don't need to worry."

"Okay, get well soon so you can go back to work. Call me if you need my help."
