Synopsis
When I awoke, I found myself in the perilous world of Demon Slayer. Bound to a mysterious system—the Ultimate Defense System! Mitsuri Kanroji murmured in awe, “His strength surpasses even mine…” Kagaya Ubuyashiki nodded in admiration, “Truly, the Demon Slayer Corps' strongest shield.” Even the fearsome Kokushibo conceded, “You embody the strongest defense our generations have ever seen.” Akaza acknowledged me as an equal, “To master defense to such a degree... you have become a warrior worthy of fear.” And the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji—once unshaken—finally lost his composure, “No... no living being should possess such durability!” In a world where offense reigns supreme, I chose the path of resilience. I do not wield a blade to kill. I stand to protect. No demon shall pass me. No comrade shall fall behind me. I am not the hero this world expected— I am its unbreakable shield.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A New Dawn in a Strange World

The autumn wind whispered through the nearly deserted streets of the small town. A languid young man strolled along the road—his name was Yohan. His appearance was starkly different from the townsfolk: jet-black hair hanging straight down, sharp and well-defined features, and a tall, lean frame. Yet, the most striking thing about him was his eyes, which carried an unmistakable air of laziness.

As a classic transmigrator, Yohan's backstory was as predictable as any web novel protagonist's—he had stayed up all night binge-watching shows until he literally worked himself to death. Before crossing over, he had already achieved financial freedom as a modern-day youth and was prepared to live the ultimate laid-back life. Little did he expect that fate had other plans, burdening him with the destiny of a transmigrator.

At first, when he arrived in this town and learnt about his system, he was fully prepared to take on the grand mission of saving the world. However, upon discovering what kind of system he had received, he immediately gave up on that idea.

Yes, his so-called system was officially named the Ultimate Defense System.

As a defense-specialized system, its philosophy was simple: focus solely on defense for ten thousand years—an iron-clad system with fleeting hosts. It absolutely refused to provide any offensive abilities whatsoever.

When Yohan first heard this, he had been completely dumbfounded. In the end, he had no choice but to accept his fate—his new life goal was now to be a human shield.

Still, despite his misgivings, at least this meant he could survive in this world.

"System, when can I finish this first stage of training?" Yohan grumbled as he walked.

He had already been training for a full month. In a way, he considered himself lucky. Ever since arriving here, he had heard numerous warnings: You must return home before sundown. At night, man-eating demons roam the streets.

The first time he heard this, Yohan was almost certain—he had landed in the world of Demon Slayer. The unmistakable Japanese setting, the folklore about demons lurking at night—he just needed to see an actual demon to confirm it.

[The host will be able to claim the first stage reward at sunset today],  the system's voice echoed in his mind.

Finally! His reward was here at last! Yohan immediately turned on his heels and rushed back home. Now, all he had to do was wait for the sun to set.

His home was nothing more than a run-down shack, and unsurprisingly, he lived alone. Since he had crossed over body and soul, he had no parents in this world.

The moment the sun dipped below the horizon, a familiar sound rang in his ears:

[Ding-dong! Congratulations, host, for completing the first stage of training! Rewards are as follows:

- Perfect Hashirama Cell Injection,

- Rokushiki "Tekkai" Training Manual,

- Skill Book – Counter Spiral.

Please claim your rewards.]

Staring at the syringe filled with glowing green liquid, Yohan felt a surge of excitement.

"System,Should I just inject this directly? What about the skill book and the 'Tekkai' training manual? Why isn't 'Tekkai' a skill book too?"

[The host may inject the serum without any worry—it is completely safe. As for 'Tekkai,' the host will gain direct comprehension of its training methods. However, because you now possess the knowledge of it, you will also be able to teach it to others. In contrast, the skill book grants an ability that is exclusive to the host and cannot be passed on.]

Yohan nodded. Whatever—he'd think about that later. Right now, he was itching to try the injection. Without hesitation, he plunged the needle into his arm. A wave of drowsiness crashed over him almost instantly, and before he knew it, he collapsed onto his bed.

When he woke up, he felt incredible.

Stretching lazily, Yohan marveled at the newfound sense of vitality coursing through his body. Even though he had been training daily under the system's guidance, the fatigue had always lingered. But now? He felt completely refreshed, as if he had been reborn.

And there were still two more rewards to claim!

"System, what about 'Tekkai' and Counter Spiral? I'm feeling amazing already—let's make this even better!"

The moment he spoke, a rush of insights flooded his mind. As he sorted through them, he immediately grasped the mechanics behind his new abilities.

[Tekkai: By accelerating blood circulation and enhancing muscle tension, the body could become as hard as iron, rendering weapons such as swords and guns ineffective. A purely defensive technique.

Counter Spiral: A passive ability that triggered upon being attacked, creating a spiral counterforce to strike back at enemies. The damage dealt was pure damage, completely bypassing all immunities.]

With these abilities combined—and the incredible regenerative power granted by Hashirama's cells—Yohan suddenly saw his combat strategy crystal clear: Max out defense, taunt enemies, and let Counter Spiral wipe them out.

Yes! That was the key! The perfect playstyle would be to force enemies into attacking him relentlessly, while they remained unable to kill him. And in the end, they'd be the ones to die from his counterattacks.

"So this is what the system meant by not providing offensive abilities… I get it now." A smirk curled at the corner of Yohan's lips. Now, he could truly step onto the stage of Demon Slayer's world.

But then—wait a second.

He didn't have a taunt ability, did he? How was he supposed to get enemies to attack him? Was he supposed to just shout at demons like—

"Come at me, all of you! I'm right here!"

Wouldn't that be asking for a beating?!

"System, is there any way to solve this problem?" Yohan decided to ask before he truly embarrassed himself in battle.

The system's reply was swift:

[The host will receive solutions as mission rewards in the future. Now announcing the ultimate mission of this world: Eliminate Kibutsuji Muzan. Additional side missions will be triggered randomly and offer various rewards.]

Yohan finally understood. So that was his end goal.

It seemed like the next step would be to leave this town and explore the world. Surely, meeting key figures from the story would trigger quests, right? And he definitely needed to visit important locations: Tokyo, Asakusa, Mount Fujikasane, the Mugen Train…

Just imagining his future encounters and interactions with legendary characters sent a thrill through him. After all, he wasn't just any transmigrator—he had arrived with a system.

If he was going to do this, he wouldn't settle for being just another side character.

If he was going to change fate, he would bend the entire story to his will.
