Chapter 38 - "Powers Getting Stronger."

-----

-----

Jasper was speeding through the city, moving from building to building. Today, he wasn't using his webs to swing around — instead, he was using electromagnetic force to travel at high speed between skyscrapers. He got the idea from Mikoto Misaka, who used similar powers, so he gave it a shot… and surprisingly, it worked.

By generating magnetic force, he could attract himself to the steel structures in tall buildings, letting him zip through the city.

He wasn't super skilled at it yet, but now that he could create magnetic force, he even figured out how to pull metal from the ground and hurl it as a weapon. Long story short, his powers were seriously leveling up.

And he was loving it.

After a while, Jasper stopped and lay flat on a rooftop to rest. Moving around that fast was still super tiring.

Meanwhile…

Not far from where Jasper was, a man inside a bank pointed a gun at a terrified bank employee.

"Hand over the cash," he demanded.

The employee, shaking, passed over the money. As soon as the man took the cash, he shot a female employee standing nearby — she'd been trying to hit the alarm.

Someone just died! Everyone else hit the floor, trembling in fear.

The man slung the bag of money over his shoulder and strode out of the bank like he owned the place. Outside, the bodies of several security guards were scattered — he had killed them just moments earlier.

"Man, they were weak," the guy scoffed. He used to be weak too, but not long ago, some shady organization paid him to be part of an experiment. As a result, he gained incredible power.

Once the experiment was over, they let him go. With no job and his cash gone, he figured the quickest way to make money was robbing banks. After all, now that he had superpowers, why live like a regular nobody? He should be above everyone else — they should worship him.

He tossed the money into a car and was about to drive off—

—when suddenly, black jagged spikes shot up from the ground and sliced his car clean in half.

Those "black jagged spikes" were actually magnetic constructs Jasper created. He wasn't a pro at using them yet, but they packed a serious punch.

Jasper dropped from the sky in his nanotech suit.

He tilted his head at the guy and said, "You better turn yourself in. It's gonna hurt, though."

The man shrugged and pulled the trigger.

"Eh~" Jasper didn't dodge. The bullet hit him square in the forehead… and bounced off. His nanotech suit was bulletproof.

"No way?" The guy tossed the gun aside, then lifted a whole car and hurled it at Jasper.

Jasper jumped lightly over the car. But since there were people behind him, he shot a web to catch it.

He swung the car around hard — and slammed it right into the guy.

The guy went flying.

He rolled across the ground a few times, and the friction scraped up his skin. The burning pain ticked him off. He was gonna kill this bastard — whoever he was, he was dead meat.

Grumbling, the man stood up, clutching his face.

BOOM!!

Jasper greeted him with a full-force kick. The guy was launched through the air and smashed into a wall, leaving a huge dent.

Jasper raised his wrist and fired a web.

The guy got stuck to the wall.

Jasper had won — overwhelmingly. But he didn't want to take any chances.

He walked up to the pinned man. The guy glared at Jasper, struggling like mad — but it was no use.

Jasper clenched his fist and punched him straight in the head.

The guy passed out cold from that one hit. That should do it.

BANG!!

A gunshot rang out.

Jasper narrowed his eyes, and the whole world seemed to slow down — this was his newly upgraded Spider-Sense.

Now, he could freely combine his Spider-Sense with his "mind's eye" ability.

In this new mode, everything felt super slow — not because time was slowing, but because his perception had become insanely sharp.

He spotted a bullet inching toward him, moving ridiculously slow from his perspective.

Jasper casually walked over and grabbed it mid-air.

He tossed it to the ground.

At that moment—

Black Widow frowned. Jasper was just too fast — so fast even she couldn't get a clean shot on him.

Yeah, she was the one who just fired. It wasn't because Jasper had done anything wrong — she was ordered to test his abilities by some government agency. So here she was.

From what she'd seen so far, Jasper had insane speed, strength, and reflexes. He was a monster.

And the test wasn't over yet. Black Widow, in her tactical suit, charged at Jasper.

Her suit enhanced her defense, speed, and strength — all just to see how Jasper would respond.

"Hmm? Not bad," Jasper noticed the woman in black charging at him. In his enhanced perception, she was moving at normal human speed — which meant that without his Spider-Sense on, she'd definitely be way faster than average.

But that was about it.

Jasper caught her punch mid-swing.

Then he punched her — hard — sending her flying. She tumbled across the ground and slowly got back to her feet.

"What a freak…" Black Widow muttered as she checked her suit's data. That one punch from Jasper? It hit with twenty-five tons of force. Not even Captain America could match that.

And judging by how calm Jasper looked, he hadn't even gone all-out. If he did… she'd probably be dead.

ROAR!!

Suddenly, Abomination charged onto the scene. He was also there to collect data on Jasper.

As soon as he showed up, Black Widow immediately backed off.

BOOM!!

Abomination's massive body slammed into the ground right in front of her. She stopped in her tracks, totally shocked. What the hell just happened? How did Abomination get smashed like that?

Then a data stream appeared in front of her — Jasper's strike had just hit 100 tons of force.

How the hell did he pull that off?

Black Widow turned to look at Jasper and noticed purple electricity crackling all over his body. He'd entered some kind of powered-up state.

Zzzzt!

The next second, Jasper appeared in front of Abomination. Black Widow saw his fist, glowing with purple lightning, slam into Abomination's body.

With a single punch, Jasper launched the giant creature through the air.

Black Widow swallowed hard. She felt like she was facing the Hulk — no, even scarier than the Hulk — because Jasper was still totally in control.

Was he going to kill her next?

ROAR!!

Abomination roared and charged at Jasper again, raising his fist to strike.

But Jasper dodged easily — and blasted him away again with another surge of purple lightning.
