Chapter 4 - The System

A hulking figure stood on the floor, towering like a small mountain.

Bai Wu glanced at his own small arms and legs, then looked at the opponent's legs, which were even thicker than his waist.

"Really an excellent match system, damn it."

Bai Wu was speechless. This was offense, this was defense. The opponent was like Ittou Kyubei from Rurouni Kenshin, wasn't it?

He was stunned by the terrifying aura of the Night Shift Butcher. He instinctively stepped back until his back hit the wall, with nowhere left to retreat.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The Night Shift Butcher's footsteps were slow but powerful, with thick blood dripping onto the floor.

Bai Wu's heartbeat quickened, adrenaline surging, causing his whole body to tremble.

He frantically thought of ways to escape, but defeating the opponent? Yeah, right. His cheat wasn't called Deep Blue; if he shouted for more points, he could wipe everything out in one go.

Bai Wu saw himself as a helpless, kind, and handsome young man.

Whoosh!

The Night Shift Butcher raised the massive cleaver and swung it down toward Bai Wu.

Bai Wu's soul nearly left his body. Instinctively, he did a roll on the ground.

After getting up, he quickly checked his body to make sure no parts had fallen off. His heart was beating so loudly it sounded like an engine.

"Thank goodness it wasn't accurate!"

Bai Wu thought to himself. When he looked up, he froze for a second.

He realized it wasn't that the Night Shift Butcher's aim was bad, but that the target wasn't even him.

The butchered, split body was actually the lump that had once been the epidemic doctor. Blood poured freely from it.

Bai Wu instinctively touched his second skin face, and at that moment, he understood how precious it really was.

Seeing that the Night Shift Butcher wasn't targeting him, Bai Wu suddenly had an idea.

What if he blew air at it?

After all, he was the system-certified source of the plague. The air he exhaled wasn't just breath, it was the "Plague Wind."

His blood was the Plague's blood, and what he shot out was the Plague's essence.

After ensuring his safety, Bai Wu's mind began to wander. Without thinking, he did the splits.

Then, he decided to follow through with his idea. He mustered his courage and moved behind the Night Shift Butcher, who was still chopping away at the "meat."

He suddenly wondered whether if, back in the day, Lu Tizhi had met a shy, silent butcher, who would have ended up chopped into meat?

"He~Tui!"

Bai Wu's lips moved quickly, and a glob of spit sprayed onto the back of the Night Shift Butcher.

What was originally just saliva, water, and microorganisms, now had the effect of sulfuric acid on the back of the butcher.

Ssss~

White smoke began to rise.

The butcher suddenly stopped and froze, causing Bai Wu to step back, quickly grabbing a pair of exaggerated grayish-white nurse's chest muscles from the ground and holding them in front of himself for protection.

After all, he wasn't afraid when using something vulgar to block his fear.

The Night Shift Butcher turned around, its arm twisting like a snake.

Whoosh~ The cleaver sliced off the part where Bai Wu's spit had landed.

It fell to the floor and turned into a bright red, elastic piece of healthy muscle.

With a loud thud, the butcher stomped on the muscle, crushing it, before returning to chopping the "meat."

This served as a reminder to Bai Wu: Even though he was the source of the plague, his infection rate was unstable.

It might also depend on how powerful the monsters were.

Suddenly, Bai Wu felt something warm on his hand. Looking down, he saw that the exaggerated chest muscle, which had previously been pale and blue, now looked like it belonged to a normal person with 36D proportions.

Shocked, Bai Wu immediately dropped it on the ground.

At the same time, the previously disassembled bloody nurses began to move.

The broken limbs started to squirm, and in front of Bai Wu, they reassembled into a whole.

Only the nurse Bai Wu had touched with his chest muscle had an empty chest.

Its head, slightly tilted and faceless, seemed puzzled by the missing piece of its body.

Eventually, the entire group of nurses joined in the action of chopping up the "meat."

Many monsters, one-player game.avi

The self-sacrificing heroism of the epidemic doctor needed no further explanation. Bai Wu immediately left the operating room, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.

He sighed in relief. With the second skin face on, he had some level of concealment.

Heading down the stairs with his hands in his pockets, Bai Wu casually walked to the first floor.

However, he was met with a group of bear-headed security guards standing at the door, their faces dripping with blood, with bits of flesh hanging from their mouths.

"Didn't they say everyone evacuated? Why are there still security guards?"

Bai Wu was puzzled, suddenly recalling the scream of his second skin face before its death. It seemed like the door wouldn't be easy to get through.

"Target: Little Bear Security.Affiliation: Island City CDC Hospital Security Department.Duty: Control unauthorized entry and exit.Note: I'm a hospital security guard and love eating Little Bear cookies."

The sudden appearance of the information prompt made Bai Wu even more certain that the door wouldn't be easy to open.

"What's this identity? And with a bear face, they still eat Little Bear cookies?"

Bai Wu shrank into the corner, thinking to himself. The exit was right in front of him, yet he couldn't leave. The feeling of being unable to escape was starting to annoy him.

"Is the hospital's identity system really the department listed in the information prompt? Is it too late for me to join now?"

Bai Wu thought briefly and came up with a guess: in a hospital, there would generally be patients, doctors, nurses, caregivers, janitors, and security guards.

But he didn't belong to any of these categories. He was the plague.

Bai Wu frowned slightly, then turned to go upstairs. He had an idea to test out.

Although this was a hospital in a monster world, surprisingly, the building layout was similar to the human world.

There was even a floor navigation map.

Following the signs, Bai Wu found the director's office. The door was slightly ajar.

He pushed it open, and immediately made eye contact with several pairs of eyes.

"Target: Multi-eyed Ghost - Mu NanAffiliation: Island City CDC Hospital Director (Vice)Duty: Assist the chief director in managing everything in the hospitalNote: The more work, the harder the assistant's job. Sweet for the director, great truly great."

"You are?"

Mu Nan adjusted the four pairs of glasses on its head and asked, puzzled.

Bai Wu thought to himself, "How much work would it take to give monsters near-sightedness?"

"Director, hello, I'm here to apply for a job."

Bai Wu quickly came up with an answer. Originally, he just wanted to try his luck, maybe steal a stamp to forge an identity.

He didn't expect there would be a hard-working beast here too.

"Apply? I don't remember there being any recruitment. How did you get in?"

Mu Nan's multiple eyes were filled with scrutiny.

"Is it from the chief director?"

Bai Wu, well-versed in the art of speaking, casually dropped a name, leaving everything else to the other person's mind.

Sure enough, in the next second, the scrutinizing look in Mu Nan's eyes disappeared, replaced by a vague hint of disdain.

"Hmph!"

Mu Nan slammed a file on the desk and said, "What kind of trash is this? Your body's even worse than a rotting corpse. Speak, which department do you want to join?"

"Director Mu Nan, you decide."

Bai Wu knew that saying too much would backfire, so he kept it vague.

Mu Nan glanced at Bai Wu and smiled mischievously. "Then go to the Security Department first. Sign your name."

A contract was placed in front of Bai Wu.

Without hesitation, Bai Wu signed his name.

The next second, a rule appeared in his mind: Eliminate severely infected individuals.

When Bai Wu left, Mu Nan sneered, murmuring softly to himself: "Even if you're arranged by the chief director, the Security Department is not a place for weaklings."
