Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Considering Resignation

Li Yan and Lulu worked at the same company, both starting at 6 PM, though Lulu usually finished around 4 or 5 AM.

So Li Yan generally went to work with Lulu in the afternoon—well, driving Lulu's car to work together.

First, it saved on transportation costs.

Second, convenient and fast, except for traffic jams.

Third, experiencing the feeling of driving—Li Yan enjoyed the pleasure of being behind the wheel.

Lulu was one of the more popular hostesses at Crown International KTV.

Sweet looks with a touch of playful sensuality, fair and tender skin, curvaceous figure, plus she was a small-time streamer with dozens of viewers during her broadcasts.

Since Li Yan worked in this industry, he didn't view jobs like hostess, male model, or promoter with any special judgment.

So the four roommates got along quite well, often eating, drinking, and traveling together.

In Li Yan's view, everyone was just trying hard to live. Maybe they'd taken shortcuts, maybe they had unspeakable hardships.

But none of that stopped Li Yan from thinking his roommates all had pretty decent personalities.

Around 6 PM was Hangzhou's worst traffic time.

Everyone rushing to get off work while Li Yan and Lulu rushed to get to work.

The only difference was that after Li Yan parked and tossed the keys to Lulu, they both walked into the KTV together.

Lulu headed straight to the changing room to put on her evening outfits—naturally more revealing clothes or flashy dresses.

Li Yan went directly to the girls' break room to lie around.

That was Li Yan's work routine—mostly nothing to do, and when there was something, it wasn't particularly busy either.

Though when Li Yan did have work, he'd usually put on a professional, busy front for outsiders.

That was just taking advantage of laypeople not understanding the work—after all, wouldn't it seem like Li Yan was slacking if he finished a three-minute job in three minutes instead of stretching it to thirty?

This was naturally key wisdom passed down from the mentor who'd brought Li Yan into this industry, learned through hard experience.

After lounging around until 6:30, Li Yan voluntarily left the increasingly crowded girls' office and returned to his sacred slacking sanctuary—the computer room.

The girls needed to start their supervisor's briefing, get work assignments for the day, and discuss yesterday's wins and losses.

Li Yan naturally shouldn't stay there anymore. Though he got along well with everyone, it wasn't appropriate to sit in on such occasions.

Sitting in the computer room chair, Li Yan checked his childhood friends' group chat messages, occasionally chiming in with his own opinions.

Regarding Xiao Wei's wedding on the 6th next month, Li Yan had originally been considering taking time off to go back to Shandong for the ceremony.

Taking leave wasn't a problem for Li Yan, and being a groomsman wasn't an issue either. According to Xiao Wei, one of the bridesmaids from the bride's side was quite beautiful.

Though Li Yan was dismissive of this—over the years, whether through his work in commercial KTV or under the guidance of matchmaker extraordinaire Zhang Qiqi, he'd met or seen countless beautiful women.

Not to mention Hangzhou itself was a city where internet celebrities gathered. Every year's comic conventions, various streamers and internet personalities—the quality of women was quite high.

You could occasionally spot one or two absolute stunners just walking around Lakeside Yintai in77.

What Li Yan was really considering now was actually the question of resignation.

Yes, resignation.

When the system's first task rewarded 10,000 yuan, Li Yan hadn't considered quitting.

Even when the second task rewarded 20,000 yuan, Li Yan still hadn't thought about resignation.

After all, his job could in some ways be called "not much money, but very little work."

But with the system's third reward being 40,000 yuan, and easily deducing the next reward would be 80,000 with continued doubling afterward—

The idea of resignation naturally popped into Li Yan's head.

Li Yan still didn't know the frequency of the system's task releases.

After all, the first three tasks had been issued immediately after completing the previous one.

But after completing the 40,000 yuan dinner task, even though an hour or two had passed, there was still no new task in Li Yan's mind.

This made Li Yan somewhat nervous.

But as Li Yan chatted with his friends while anxiously waiting for new tasks and half-heartedly thinking about resignation—

The new task finally arrived.

Li Yan perked up immediately, putting down his phone to focus intently.

[Complete a 3-kilometer morning run. Task reward: 80,000 yuan.]

[The body is the foundation of revolution and the most basic condition for life.]

Li Yan breathed a huge sigh of relief. The task had come, though he didn't know why it was delayed, but better late than never.

And the task reward matched his expectation of doubling, which further solidified Li Yan's desire to resign.

If you could have money without working, who would want to work!

Even with such an easy job, Li Yan still didn't think going to work was particularly interesting.

Only idiots would seek out hardship when they didn't have to, or work when they didn't need to...

Morning run, huh?

Simple!

But Li Yan was then surprised to discover that below this task, when he focused carefully, there was expanded additional content.

[Persist for one week: slight energy increase + 100,000 yuan bonus reward]

[Persist for one month: gradual vision recovery + 2 million yuan bonus reward]

[Persist for three months: slight endurance increase + 30 million yuan bonus reward]

[Persist for one year: comprehensive physical improvement + 400 million yuan bonus reward]

[Persist for ten years: overall lifespan increase + 5 billion yuan bonus reward]

Li Yan felt like he was back to his initial shock when he first got the system.

If rewards for energy, vision, endurance, physical fitness, plus money were still within Li Yan's understanding—

After all, exercise naturally had positive effects.

Then that final reward of increased lifespan made Li Yan increasingly excited about the system's other potential rewards.

Though the ten-year timeframe was somewhat daunting.

But when it came to lifespan, Li Yan felt he could probably stick with it for ten years... right?
