Michelle stayed at the window longer than she meant to before turning back to unpack. She tried not to think about the guy across the way, but his smile stuck in her mind like a song she couldn't stop humming.
A few hours later, she headed to the shared kitchen to make some tea—and something straight out of a romantic movie happened. She opened the door… and walked right into him.
"Oh, sorry!" she gasped, nearly dropping her mug.
"No worries," said the guy with the same smile she recognized instantly. "We meet again."
"You're… from across the hall," she smiled nervously.
"Steve," he said, offering his hand. "And you are…?"
"Michelle."
"Nice name," he said with a nod. "I came to get some water, but I think I found something better."
Michelle blushed.
"Well, tea's not bad either," she replied, trying to sound casual.
Steve laughed. His laugh was light and easy, and suddenly the kitchen didn't feel so small or cold.
"Wanna sit outside for a bit? It's a beautiful day. We can bring the tea," Steve suggested.
Michelle hesitated for a second, then nodded. "Why not?"
