Chapter 14 - Chapter 13: Fired Up! This Is the Break I’ve Been Waiting For (Key Chapter)

(PS: This chapter contains vital information that affects the story's worldbuilding—please read carefully.)

The next morning, bright and early, all the new students were assembled on the school's athletic field.

A rugged, muscular instructor stood at the front, addressing the group.

"Listen up, everyone. I'm Yan Tai, your tactical combat instructor."

"I assume by now, you're all aware of what's waiting for you in Forbidden Zone #2. To increase your chances of surviving there, I'll be putting you through one month of intense physical and tactical training."

"Now, start running. Ten laps around the field."

The students groaned in unison but still gritted their teeth and started running.

They all understood.

This training wasn't just for show—it was for their own survival. With their current noodle-like bodies, stepping into Zone #2 was a death sentence.

Only Vincent Tan remained perfectly composed.

After all, ten laps? That was nothing. His daily routine already included ten kilometers of running. Ten laps didn't even come close to that.

Once the ten laps were done, most students collapsed in exhaustion like dying dogs. Some couldn't even finish.

Vincent, however, was still full of energy. But he didn't want to stand out too much, so he deliberately slowed down and pretended to be winded, casually sitting down to rest.

Barely half an hour had passed before Instructor Yan Tai started the next round of training.

The entire morning was consumed by drills and physical conditioning.

In the afternoon, it was back to lectures.

Professor Zhou returned once more to lead the class and introduced new material.

"Once you enter Forbidden Zone #2, you'll be given a choice of three mission objectives."

"Option 1: Eliminate infected mutant creatures—zombies count."

"Option 2: Rescue surviving civilians."

"Option 3: Eradicate the virus and save the entire world."

"You can only pick one. No double-dipping."

"Although Option 3 comes with the biggest rewards—including potential unknown abilities—I strongly advise you NOT to choose it. Because quite frankly, it's impossible to complete."

"Zone #2 is a world plunged into apocalyptic ruin. Aside from hordes of zombies and mutated beasts, even human survivors are rare. Communication has completely collapsed. So has law and order. Everything is in chaos."

"On top of that, your mission window is only one month. Saving an entire world in that time? Not going to happen."

"And if you fail your mission, you'll be permanently trapped in Zone #2. There is no coming back."

"The nation has already deployed elite squads into Zone #2, all attempting to complete Option 3. The result? Total failure. Casualties were severe."

"If even our finest failed, what makes you think you'll succeed?"

"Option 3 has already been officially classified as an impossible mission."

"So I'll say it one more time—when the time comes, don't get cocky. Don't get any wild ideas. Just pick Option 1 or 2 and do your job."

As the lecture continued, Vincent kept a calm expression, but his heart was pounding with excitement.

He never expected the mission options for Zone #2 to be this explosive.

Professor Zhou had a point. For the average person, completing Mission 3 in a month was a pipe dream. Even elite operatives with years of experience had little chance of success.

Why?

Because no one in this world actually knows the key to saving the Resident Evil world. No one has the necessary intel.

With such a short time limit, brute force and manpower become irrelevant.

If a mission fails, the agent is permanently lost inside the zone. Any intel they might have gathered dies with them.

That created a vicious cycle.

No matter how many people the government sends in, it's all in vain.

But Vincent Tan was different.

Before transmigrating to this world, he had watched every Resident Evil film. He knew the storyline by heart.

He alone knew the real solution to saving that world.

The T-Virus Antiserum.

In the final chapter of Resident Evil, the protagonist Alice released the antiserum, which spread through the air and killed all the infected creatures worldwide, wiping the T-Virus from existence entirely.

Alice saved the world.

And now, Vincent had that knowledge. He had the key.

This was his opportunity.

This wasn't just a mission.

This was destiny.
