Chapter 37 - Berlin Breakdown

The sun was barely up when Obsidian Saints arrived in Berlin, but the city already buzzed with life. Streets bristled with energy, graffiti-covered walls reflected a culture of resistance and expression, and the scent of fresh bread and sausage wafted from nearby bakeries. It felt raw, real—perfect.

Rex stepped out of the black van, hoisting his newly upgraded guitar case over his shoulder. "This place has attitude," he said, eyes scanning the old buildings and alleyways. "I like it."

Samuel adjusted his glasses. "Germany is big on metal. Some of the loudest, most loyal crowds come from here. Tonight's venue is sold out."

They were scheduled to play at the legendary venue Der Stahlwerk, a grungy, underground spot that had a reputation for chaos and authenticity. Kai grinned. "This is gonna be loud."

Earlier That Day

Before the show, the band had a radio interview with RockWelle Berlin, a local station that supported underground and alternative acts. The host, a charismatic woman named Anja, welcomed them with a huge grin.

"You guys blew up our phone lines when we announced your show," she laughed. "Tell me, how does it feel to be the most talked-about act in Germany right now?"

Rex chuckled. "Honestly, it's surreal. We're just here to play loud, fast, and from the heart."

Ash nodded, tuning his guitar as he added, "If people connect with that—then we've already won."

Anja leaned forward. "There's a rumor your album might go platinum here before the tour ends. Any truth to that?"

Samuel, who was sitting just out of frame, gave a slight shake of the head. Rex smirked. "We're not chasing numbers—we're chasing moments. And Berlin feels like it's about to give us one."

The Show

That night, the band hit the stage in front of a packed crowd of nearly a thousand people. The air was hot, the lights low, and the crowd chanted "Obsidian! Obsidian!" before a single note was even played.

Rex stepped up to the mic. "Berlin! We're Obsidian Saints… and we came here to tear the roof off!"

With that, they launched into Spit Out the Bone, and the venue erupted.

The band played with ruthless precision. The upgraded guitar gave Rex an almost ethereal tone, cutting through the mix like a sonic blade. Silas's drumming was thunderous, his bald head glistening with sweat under the harsh lights. Kai's bass growled like a beast from the underworld, and Ash shredded with a grin on his face, feeding off the energy like a demon on stage.

Then came Fade to Black. The moment slowed. Phones lit up. A girl in the front row wept openly. For all its heaviness, the song's sorrowful solos wrapped the audience in melancholy.

After the encore, the band left the stage, clothes soaked, hair messy, adrenaline still spiking.

"That was insane," Silas said, breathing hard. "These people... they felt everything."

But that wasn't the end of Berlin's story.

The Aftermath

Backstage, chaos hit. A local reporter from Klangkrieg Magazine rushed in with breaking news. "Your performance… someone livestreamed it. It's gone viral. Over 2 million views in the last hour!"

Samuel's phone rang nonstop. Promoters. Labels. Agents. Even a few TV networks.

"I told you Berlin would deliver," Samuel muttered, trying to sound calm as his fingers flew across his screen.

Amid the frenzy, a boy no older than 12 slipped past security. He had a handmade Obsidian Saints shirt and carried a worn notebook.

"I'm sorry!" he blurted in German-accented English. "I had to see you!"

The security guard moved to grab him, but Rex raised a hand. "It's alright. What's your name, kid?"

"Lukas," the boy said, awestruck. "You saved my life tonight."

The room went quiet.

Rex crouched beside him. "How's that?"

Lukas opened the notebook. It was filled with lyrics, sketches, and chaotic scribbles. "I was gonna quit music. Everyone said it was a waste. But when I heard Angel of Death and Fade to Black, I knew I couldn't give up."

Kai clapped the kid on the back. "You're one of us now."

Ash grinned. "One of the Saints."

They took photos, signed his book, and gave him backstage passes for life.

Back at the Hotel

That night, while the rest of the band celebrated with late-night kebabs and beers, Rex sat alone on the balcony, strumming softly.

The System screen blinked to life before him.

"Wrath of the Saints, huh?" Rex muttered. "Let's see what you do."

"Obsidian! Obsidian!"

Berlin hadn't just been another stop.

It had been a revelation.
