"Leng Yaozhu!"
The room fell silent. The anger rising in Crimson Armored Douluo's heart slowly settled back down.
"If she truly has the skill to teach you, then cherish it well," Crimson Armored Douluo said quietly, his eyes turning misty. He honestly hadn't expected the Spirit Transferring Tower to move this quickly. Still, he was curious. He knew Gu You came from the Federation's side, and the Sun-Moon side had already made it clear — while the three great organizations outwardly claimed loyalty to the Federation, they were secretly pulling strings behind the scenes. At first, he had even wondered why the Federation would send a genius like Gu You to Shrek Academy. What were they planning? And now Gu You had taken Leng Yaozhu as his master. Did the Federation not care at all?
Gu You seemed to sense his thoughts and softly said, "Master knows my situation. She's taking me as her disciple under her personal name."
Crimson Armored Douluo stayed silent for a long moment. 'That's for the best.'
Just then, the space around them rippled. Shen Yi instantly grew alert, releasing her martial soul, six spirit rings rising around her as shy grass grew and curled through the air.
"Girl, this is Shrek," Crimson Armored Douluo reminded, his expression suddenly turning respectful.
"Pavilion Master, what brings you and Ya Li here today?"
The space tore open, and two figures appeared before Gu You's eyes.
The leading man was striking and handsome, his white tunic radiating a special presence. At his side stood a regal woman in a pale green gown, her long hair flowing down, exuding a life energy that made those around her feel soothed.
Ya Li studied Gu You with curious, glowing eyes. Seeing this, Yun Ming smiled. "Ya Li was curious about this child. She heard your disciple brought him back and insisted on seeing him."
Crimson Armored Douluo said nothing. Gu You having a master only left him more frustrated. Soul masters could have more than one teacher, yes, but there was always a distinction between the primary and the secondary. As for a second profession, that was a bit easier — though the same principle applied.
Off to the side, Shen Yi watched enviously. This was the continent's strongest man, Shrek Pavilion Master Yun Ming, and beside him, the greatest healer of the continent, Holy Spirit Douluo Ya Li. And here they were, lowering themselves just to come see an unfamiliar child. If word of this spread, the entire Federation's networks would explode.
"Child, you're Gu You?" Ya Li asked softly, eyes shining with warmth. In her youth, she had survived a terrible plague, using her martial soul to save countless lives. Back then, she'd only been a Soul Saint, and after exhausting herself, she'd fallen into a deep sleep. During her slumber, she gradually absorbed faith energy, causing her martial soul to evolve into the Wish Angel. When she finally awoke, she had already reached the Title Douluo realm — hailed as the greatest leap in cultivation across the continent's history. But the plague had left irreversible scars, including a permanent injury that prevented her from having children.
For many years, she had quietly carried guilt toward Yun Ming. After much thought, she'd decided she wanted to adopt a child. A few days ago, a confidential message from the Federation had confirmed her choice: the message told the story of Gu You, a boy from an orphanage, a child who had grown up enduring hardship. Some of the stories had even made her cry. And on top of that, he had such astonishing talent — to Ya Li, he was the perfect child. She and Yun Ming had already been discussing the idea of adopting him.
"Mm." Gu You enjoyed the aura of life surrounding Ya Li, and the faint pull of the faith energy subtly drew him closer.
Ya Li took Gu You's hand. Under the astonished gazes of everyone present, a lift suffused with life energy appeared before her. Gu You couldn't figure out what she was planning. In the original story, he remembered her character vividly — though, unfortunately, her ending had been… complicated.
Sitting on the life-infused lift, Ya Li gently lifted Gu You into her arms, hugging him tightly.
'What?!'
Gu You wondered if his eyes were playing tricks on him. He saw deep, radiant motherly love shining in Ya Li's eyes. Was she… seeing him as her own child?
He remembered how, in the original, Ya Li had been unable to have children, so she had adopted Na'er, making her both her disciple and her goddaughter. But now, because of his appearance, Ya Li wanted to adopt him as her godson? What kind of chaotic mess was this turning into? Not to mention, his master and Ya Li had a tangled relationship already. If he became Ya Li's godson, wouldn't that tangle things even worse? And who knew if Leng Yaozhu would beat him to death when she found out?
"Gu'er… may I call you that?" Ya Li asked softly.
Gu You didn't know what to do. He could only give a faint "Mm."
"I heard you're an orphan, and life hasn't been easy for you. If you don't mind, I'd like to adopt you as my godson. Will you accept?" Ya Li looked at him with gentle, motherly eyes.
Even though he had expected something like this, Gu You still froze.
Off to the side, Crimson Armored Douluo was about to explode. He wanted to blurt out that Gu You was already Leng Yaozhu's disciple — but just then, Yun Ming's cool gaze flicked over to him, and the words got stuck in Crimson Armored Douluo's throat.
Shen Yi felt like the sky was collapsing. She'd just been teasing Gu You for relying on his background to get into Shrek Academy, but now the shocks just kept coming. Holy Spirit Douluo was about to adopt him as her godson. She felt her whole world shatter and quickly flew off.
"I…"
"What's wrong? You don't want to?" Ya Li asked, sounding disappointed.
"N-no…" Even Gu You, with all his experience, was completely rattled by everything happening. First, an invincible martial soul, then an invincible master, and now invincible adoptive parents — plus the mess of tensions between his master and his new family. This was beyond ridiculous.
"So, you agree?" Ya Li beamed and hugged him tightly.
Beside them, Crimson Armored Douluo's insides were in turmoil.
Gu You still felt dazed — the last few days had been anything but normal.
Heh heh! A strange little laugh came from Ya Li's lips, sounding more like a playful young girl than a dignified mother.
"Pavilion Master Yun Ming, I know it's rude to interrupt, but I need to mention this: Leng Yaozhu is this child's master," Crimson Armored Douluo finally mustered the courage to say.
Yun Ming frowned slightly, but Ya Li didn't seem to care. 'So what if she's a love rival? I've already won — and won gloriously, too! I even turned her disciple into my godson! Just imagining showing off my godson Gu You in front of Leng Yaozhu… oh, I'll be so happy when I see her expression.'
"That's even better," Ya Li said cheerfully. "We were already like sisters — now we're even closer. In a few days, I'll personally visit and see how my dear sister has been doing."
Crimson Armored Douluo wisely chose not to say anything more. This was turning into one big, lovey-dovey family scene — better to slip away while he still could.
"Gu You, show me your martial soul," Yun Ming suddenly said.
Gu You nodded, stepped down from Ya Li's lap, and released his martial soul. The thousand-year spirit ring glowed brilliantly.
As the pressure of the dragon's aura swept through the air, even Yun Ming was visibly surprised. And sensing Gu You's peak-level rank-13 spirit power, Yun Ming could only sigh inwardly. 'A true hero, even as a child.'
