Chapter 2 - Chapter two: His New Beginning II

The plane finally landed at the airport. Jason went out the plane and out the boarding gate. The airport was filled with so many people checking in and out. Jason went out the airport doors to meet his butler, Mr. Lamphawot who was waiting for him by a car.

Jason:

Mr. Lamphawot!

Mr. Lamphawot:

Good day, Mr. Jason. How have you been? How was the trip?

Jason:

Pretty good! My neck hurts even with the first class trip.

He said scratching the back of his neck.

Jason:

What about you?

Mr. Lamphawot:

Same, sir!

Jason:

That's good to hear.

They laughed their way into the car.

Mr. Lamphawot drove his way out of the airport.

In the car, Jason started talking about how things have changed in Thailand.

Jason:

Wow! Things have really changed in Thailand.

He said with adoration in his eyes, looking out the car window.

Mr. Lamphawot:

Yes! Of course! Lots of things have changed here.

He said focusing on his driving.

Jason:

I sure miss this place and everyone.

He said, his eyes faced to his laps.

Mr. Lamphawot:

You know? Mr. Tanawit (Jason's grandpa) always spoke about you before he died. He always said he missed you and wanted to see you. But you never came around.

Jason:

I also miss him. I never wanted to tell him goodbye like this.

He sighed dramatically as a cruising wave of guilt slammed into him.

Mr. Lamphawot:

Don't feel bad. It not your fault he died.

He said on seeing Jason's expression through the front mirror.

Jason kept silent throughout the whole ride to his family house.

When he got there, he took a while in the car before coming down. As he got down, lots of staff welcomed him at the entrance.

Staffs:

Welcome! Mr. Tanawit! We are delighted to have you back, sir!

They said in chorus.

Jason:

Thanks for the welcome.

He said smiling to all the staffs.

As he walked into the hallway, his footsteps echoed harshly. As he reached the living room area, he spotted Fai and his mum sitting, waiting for his arrival.

Mum:

Jason!! My baby! You're back!

She spread out her arms running towards Jason.

Jason:

Mom! I also missed you so much.

He caught his mum in a tight hug.

Jason:

You forgot how to greet your elder brother?

He faced Fai who sat looking at both him mum and Jason.

Fai:

You expect me to greet you?

He let out a bitter chuckle.

Fai:

You always ignored my messages. So, what's the need of talking to you.

He said as he stood up pointing at Jason.

Jason:

I'm sorry, naa. You know how busy it always gets in New York.

He walked towards Fai.

Jason:

I'm sorry! I would do anything to make up for it.

Fai slightly turned his head in shock.

Fai:

Really? Anything? Wow!

His face was filled with excitement.

Jason:

Yes! Just name it.

He looked at Fai with curiosity in his eyes, waiting for his response.

Fai:

Ok! What about the latest Mercedes Benz?

His eyes flickered with excitement.

Jason:

What? I thought mum just bought you the latest Ferrari.

He blinked at Fai, his face filled with confusion.

Fai:

It's no big deal. It's not like you can't afford it.

Jason:

Yes I can. But you have like ten expensive cars in the parking space. And you want another one.

He said with seriousness in his face.

His mum cut in their bantering.

Mum:

So.... About grandpa....

There was a brief silence.

Jason:

What now? What about grandpa?

His eyes was fixated on his mum.

Mum:

Well.....he is not dead at all.

She said with a neutral expression.

Jason:

Umm... say what?

He asked acting deaf to what his mum said.

Mum:

I'm sorry, honey. I had to. It was your grandpa's idea.

Jason:

You got to be kidding me!

He ran his hand through his hair.

Jason:

Fai! You also gave in to this.

He asked facing Fai.

Fai:

What?!

He crossed his arms and pouted his lips.

Fai:

Don't face me. I did what I was asked.

Jason:

Then, why did you call me all the way from New York. Do you know how many stops I made.

He glanced at Fai and his mum.

There was a suffocating silence.

Grandpa:

Will you stop nagging. I asked them to do it.

His grandpa chimed in from a corner.

Jason:

But why? Why would you tell them to do that?

Jason stood confused.

Grandpa:

This is the only way I can get you to come back home to take over the company.

Jason:

Take over what? Why me? What about Fai?

He asked, caught off guard by his grandpa's words.

Grandpa:

Fai is still young and not ready. You are mature and smart.

Jason:

You sure I'm ready?

He asked with uncertainty.

Grandpa:

Yes! I am. If I weren't sure, I wouldn't have called you over.

Jason:

You mean tricking me?

Grandpa:

All I'm just saying is, take over the company. My time is already short and you are the only heir to the company.

Jason:

Fine. Whatever you say. Just get me my own house.

He asked pouting his lips.

Grandpa:

Fine with me. Whatever you want.

Jason:

Ok!

He said softening his face....
