Chapter 12 - Chairey

"So, you guys met from a cell phone? Did you find their phone at the public library you go to?"

Joan put on a serious face, he looked at the Chairey that was sitting in front of him. Chairey nodded lightly because she was telling the truth, Chairey was among those who rarely lied maybe even almost never. Chairey played with her both feet, occasionally staring at the yard through the window as if the plants were more important than her conversation with Joan at this time.

Joan nodded his head after hearing Chairey's explanation about the phone, Zen and Rei. Joan still feels suspicious about their meeting which is very similar to the television series. However, Joan had never heard of either Rei or Zen in their residential complex. Joan knows almost everyone there, because Joan himself is in charge of overseeing the security that occurs around the housing.

"I've never heard of them, so they're definitely not from anywhere near here. Where did they say they lived?" asked Joan. Chairey turned back to Joan and then remained silent and tried to remember the conversation the three of them had a moment ago.

"Uhm, no idea. They didn't say where they lived, as I remember they said they lived together in one house and with other people. Maybe they are a group and decided to rent a house together to save more? If you could stay together, it would be so much fun!"Chairey clapped her hands and put on a happy face because she imagined something that never happened. Joan frowned, not arguing but not approving either.

"Do not know. Maybe even."

Joan thought again, how could this be a coincidence, how could they target Chairey in a public place?

"Brother?" call Chairey while moving his palm in front of Joan's face every now and then. "What was brother thinking? Zen and Rei? You were so kind to think of them." Chairey chuckled.

"I don't think about them because I care, jeez, this kid." Joan retorted as she pulled Chairey's nose furiously. Chairey groaned in pain slowly because of what the young man was doing.

"It hurts, haha. Yeah, yeah, I'm just confused. Why are you so suspicious? Its bad you know? Brother could be feel unwell if too suspicious toward others, or maybe I'm the one who will be sick, like you said. Because … the pipe is not repaired." Chairey smiled a little, Joan breathed, the young man knew that he would rarely win when talking to the teenage girl in front of him. Joan smiled, his hand rubbed Chairey's hair and moved from his seat.

"All right, all right. I'll fix the pipes, but I'll come with you when you decide to meet them. I won't interfere of course, I won't sit near you, I'll just watch from afar and make sure you're okay."

Chairey nodded, he didn't mind if Joan wanted to come even if only from afar.

"Up close is also okay, maybe Big Brother, Zen and Rei can be friends? Isn't that great? So we can often gather together and do a lot of things together," said Chairey in a passionate tone. Her eyes seemed to glow when she said the word together. Joan laughed because of Chairey's idea, the young man understood very well that he and the two new young people Chairey knew would not be able to be good friends.

"No, thank you. I have many friends, oh, speaking of the phones you found, is that a smart phones one?" Joan asked from the kitchen. Chairey murmured softly because Joan was bragging to her friends.

"No, not that kind. The phone is small, the output of the old year, the phone does not even have a camera. It is only used to send messages and make calls." Chairey replied as she walked towards the small closet nearby, picking up the phone she had put down moments before Joan arrived.

"I don't see the point, brother. It's not polite, it's someone else's phone so I don't want to check it, nor should you. If you want to see their phone, just look at it but don't look at the contents," chairey forbade with her footsteps approaching Joan. The girl bent slightly to see what Joan was doing.

Joan's body was half lying near a collection of pipelines in the kitchen, located under the sink. Joan glanced at Chairey who was approaching him and then focused back on the pipe he was repairing. Joan was silent to hear Chairey's answer about that cellphone, if the cellphone found was a smart phone then the reason could be to keep an eye on Chairey or commit a crime through his camera. However, the phone does not have a camera.

'Maybe I was too suspicious.'

"What's broken? Should the pipes be replaced?" Chairey looked at the collection of pipes that looked the same all in her eyes and then looked at Joan again. Joan shook his head.

"No need, just fix it. Open it from the pipe, it looks like from the cable or the heater. I thought the water flow was blocked, I guess I was wrong. What time do you usually shower?" Joan moved slowly away and cleared up what he was unloading.

"Seven o'clock, uhm, if I am too lazy that can be eight o'clock," said Chairy potluck. "Don't force it, like I said earlier, I have no problem having to warm it up manually without using a machine." Chairey bites her lower lip slowly, she is afraid of being too troublesome, Chairey does not want others to consider her a burden. Joan rubbed Chairey's hair Again, half ruffled then smiled.

"I'm not forcing it, it's my job. My job is to watch over you and ensure your safety and comfort here, what else your parents have entrusted to me. There's no way I'm going to keep quiet, it's just a small thing, it's not difficult. Don't worry too much," Joan said in a soft tone, Joan always worried about Chairey who often prioritizes others over herself. The young man was also worried because it was Chairey who always kept everything alone.

Remember when Chairey had a high fever, and barely left the house for two days. The close neighbors had already tried to knock on the door and call Chairey to make sure the girl who lived alone was fine but nihil, there was no answer. Anxious, they asked Joan to come in with a spare key. When Joan checked he found Chairey asleep in the room, flushed from the high heat and sweating profusely.

After being examined by a doctor and taking medication, Joan asks Chairey about her condition and why Chairey is silent when she is sick and needs help.

"It's just a normal fever, so I don't want to bother. I've been taking medication, I didn't know you were worried, sorry."

Joan remembers very well what Chairey's answer was at that time, Chairey apologized for making it difficult and did not think they would worry. Joan had heard about Chairey who was not her parents ' biological child, but Joan was sure that Chairey's adoptive parents considered her their own child and did not treat Chairey badly. After the incident, Joan decided to visit Chairey every three days. Make sure all the facilities of his house are in good condition, make sure Chairey is healthy, make sure Chairey has enough food storage when it will rain or storm and many other things.

Joan also often reminds, if Chairey should call him or ask a neighbor for help as soon as possible if it feels difficult. Although Chairey always said yes, Joan was hard to believe and ended up with a sense of anxiety that did not stop.

"It's late, it's almost dinner, do you want to eat here? I'm planning on cooking broccoli and shrimp stir-fry. I'll make you some tea, too," said Chairey, his thin fingers pointing at the clock, five past thirty in the afternoon. Joan looked out and then looked at Chairey again.

"All right. I'm gonna spend the night here, I'll borrow the bathroom."Joan pointed to the bathroom before stepping in, he was pretty sweaty when he checked the plumbing earlier. Dinner with a dirty state will not be pleasant for him as well as for Chairey. Chairey nodded to answer Joan although Joan no longer saw her, Chairey was now heading to the kitchen to prepare the ingredients with a small hum.

Chairey likes shrimp, likes meat and likes crab meat. Chairey can eat spicy food although she prefers ice cream than others. Chairey always cooks for herself, rarely does she order food outside or come to cafes to enjoy their menu. According to Chairey, cooking is much more fun and he will feel happy when the food feels right on the tongue.

Chairey's mind drifted, from here he could hear the sound of tap water and the sound of water he was boiling. Chairey thought it would be great if she could cook for Zen and Zen liked her cooking.
