Chapter 2 - A spark

The Triplet's Home — Living Room

Thatcher's POV

After driving Madison to the house, I left her with my brothers. She had a lot of fun with them, and when it was time to go, Julian drove her home. I can't seem to concentrate since that incident with Madison's stepsister.

I've been trying to understand why I felt that spark for her, but I can't come to any conclusion. Why did I feel a connection with her? Why did my wolf suddenly howl in my head at the sight of her? I felt every hair in my body stand the second our fingers touched. Why did it happen?

Madison was prophesied as our fated mate; she is our mate. I shouldn't feel this way about other females. I can only harbor feelings for her. What went wrong at that moment? I was deeply lost in thought and didn't notice when Julian and Logan joined me at the bar area of our home.

Logan sat beside me in the customer area, and Julian took the bartender's position.

"Now spill it out," Julian groaned. "I can't watch this anymore." He pulled out a bottle of whisky and decanted a little into a glass cup.

"Yeah, what the fuck happened, bro?" Logan, the youngest, turned to me, "You've been out of it for hours."

"I don't know," I let out a disappointed sigh before drinking my last shot of vodka.

"Talk to us. Does it have to do with Madison? Her birthday is in a week; are you nervous?" Julian, the second, pressed; Julian is the curious type; nothing gets past his eyes. He knows me better than I know myself, and he is always putting our safety before his.

"Nah, it's not that." I shook my head and handed my glass to him. He filled the glass with whiskey and offered it back to me.

"Then what is it?" Logan asked.

"Something unusual happened earlier. I've been trying to figure it out, but the more I think about it, the more absurd it gets," I answered before finishing the whiskey in one shot.

"Okay?"

"It's about Madison's sister, her stepsister. You know her, right?" I moved my gaze from Julian to Logan.

"Yeah," Logan frowned, "what about her?"

"What do you think about her?" I inquired.

"Her? Why should we think about her?" Julian looked at me with a confused face. Yeah, he is not wrong. Why am I thinking about her?

"I touched her by accident today, and..." I paused and exhaled, "I can't explain it. It felt weird; I felt very weird."

"You need to explain this feeling to us," Thatcher leaned closer and urged. "How did you feel when you touched her?"

"Excited. Happy. I felt the need to hold her. The worst part of it was, I think my wolf felt it too. He wanted her. I am unsure why it happened, but it did." After my explanation, Julian and Logan exchanged glances.

"That's strange," Logan admitted. "I think I also need a drink," he said.

Julian took out a whiskey glass and served it.

"Do you think she felt the same way?" After a brief pause, Julian raised the question.

"Yeah," I nodded, "I could tell from her expression. I tried to speak to her, but Madison stopped me," I explained.

"Hmm, but we only get one mate. Why did that happen?" Julian swirled his drink as he pondered.

"I think we should see her." A few minutes passed before Logan suggested, "Let's see her. I also need to check. Let's stop overthinking things and go to her," he suggested.

"Are you crazy?" I looked at him. "She lives with Madison."

"I know," Logan shook his head, "but we could see her in private," he reasoned.

"Madison is not home; I dropped her off at her friend's place," Julian chipped in.

"She's not home?" I moved my gaze to him.

"Alright, I'll get dressed; we're going to her." Logan left to get dressed, leaving us two.

"What do you think will happen?" Julian looked at me.

"I don't know; we just have to wait and see how things turn out," I sighed.

**

We reached Beta Benjamin's house a couple of minutes later. We found Benjamin and his wife sitting in their living room.

"Are you here to see Madison?" Benjamin stood up and welcomed us.

"Yeah, is she in?" I asked.

"I believe so. I'll send a maid to call her and..." He was still speaking when Logan interrupted him.

"We'll go to her; we know where her room is," he said.

"Okay," he smiled and sat back with his wife.

We climbed the stairs and soon located the girls' room, Madison's stepsister. I don't know her name yet, but I'll find out soon.

Once we reached her room, we knocked on the door and waited. She opened the door a few seconds later. Her expression changed from a surprised one to disbelief and then fear as she stared at us.

"What... What do you want?" She left the door and drew back.

Is she scared of us?

"I... I'm sorry for touching you earlier; I didn't mean to. I was only trying to call the attention of my sister," she promptly apologized, but we ignored her words and proceeded into her room.

When she saw us drawing closer, she shut her eyes, probably expecting the worst, but the next action we took definitely surprised her.

"Can we talk to you?" Logan asked with a gentle tone.

"Spare us a minute of your time," Julian requested.

"What?" She slowly opened her eyes and carefully examined our faces. After her examination, she took three steps back and cleared her throat.

"Please leave," she demanded.

What?! My brothers and I exchanged glances. Did she just...?

"I don't want troubles; please go to Madison. She will be here soon," she continues.

"We have something to say to you. Give us a chance and..."

"No! Please go. Please go away!" She raised her voice and yelled. "I do not wish to speak to you," she insisted.

Just then, Madison appeared at the door. "What is going on here?" She questioned, moving her gaze from one person to the next.

"What are you doing in her room?"
