(Soon enough, the group arrives at the Vermilion Gym.)
(The building has lighting bolts on the front.)
Mew: "So this is the Vermilion City gym."
(Mew says.)
Misty: "Are you sure you guys are ready?"
(Misty asks.)
Mew: "Of course I am,"
(Mew says.)
(Then turns to her Pokemon.)
Mew: "And so is Pikachu.
(The doors open and they all enter.)
(Soon, they see two people dressed in black.)
(A man with a buzz cut hairstyle, and a girl with long burgundy hair.)
Mew: "Hello, I've come for a Pokemon battle to earn a Thunder badge."
(Mew says.)
(The young man turns his head back and says.)
The young man: "Hey, boss! Another victim for the emergency room.
(Just then, someone steps forward.)
???: "Which ones?"
(Mew and her friends are surprised to see the Gym leader is tall, muscular, and large.)
(He is wearing black shoes, dark brown pants with a vest open.)
(He also wears fingerless gloves with silver studs, and a chain around his neck attaching a tag.)
(He has light tan skin and blonde spiky hair.)
Brock: "Whoa! He's huge!"
(Brock says, shocked.)
Misty: "Is he the gym leader you two have to beat?"
(Misty asks, surprised.)
(Mew raises her hand nervously and says.)
Mew: "Um hello I'm Mew of Pallet Town and I come here to challenge you to earn a Thunder Badge."
Lt. Surge: "Well then, welcome to the Vermilion Gym, baby."
(The man, Lt. Surge says.)
(Then ruffles Mew's hair.)
Mew: "I'm not a baby!"
(Mew says, annoyed and puffs her cheeks.)
Lt. Surge: "Heh,' I call everyone who loses to me, baby."
(Lt. Surge says.)
(Suddenly, Pikachu angrily says.)
Pikachu: "Pika Pikachu! Pika Pika Pi Pikachu!" (Mew is no baby! She's a great trainer!)
Eevee: "Eevee Eevee!" (Yeah. She's here to battle you!)
(Eevee says.)
(Lt. Surge and his colleagues look down to see Pikachu making an electric spark from his cheeks and look angry.)
(Eevee is not pleased herself.)
Lt. Surge: "Well well, a Pikachu and Eevee. A couple of baby Pokemon. And they got some guts."
(Lt. Surge says.)
Mew: "Hey! We're not babies!"
(Mew angrily says.)
Pikachu: "Pi Pikachu!" (That's right!)
(Pikachu angrily says.)
Eevee: "Eevee!" (Yeah! We're strong!)
(Eevee angrily says.)
(Lt. Surge holds out his Pokeball.)
Lt. Surge: "Looks like we're going to have an interesting opponent, but you're still going to lose."
Lt. Surge: "Go Raichu!"
(Lt. Surge says, throwing his Pokeball.)
(Then a large mouse Pokemon comes out.)
Raichu: "Raichu!"
(This Pokemon is covered in dark orange fur with a white belly.)
(Its bifurcated ears are brown on the outside, yellow on the insides, and end in a distinctive curl.)
(There is a circular yellow marking on each cheek where its electric sacs are, and it has a triangular, dark brown nose.)
(Its arms and feet have patches of brown fur at the end, and the soles of its long feet are tan with a circular orange pad in the center.)
(On its back are two horizontal brown stripes.)
(Its long, thin tail has a lightning bolt-shaped end.)
(Pikachu and Raichu glare at each other as they growl.)
Lt. Surge: "Okay, baby. If you wanna quit, now's your chance."
(Lt. Surge says.)
Raichu: "Raichu!" (Yeah!)
(Raichu says.)
Mew: "There's no way we're going to quit now."
(Mew says, determined.)
(But Lt. Surge says.)
Lt. Surge: "Hah! What could a baby like that do? If you want to become a Pokemon master, you should make your Pokemon evolve as soon as you catch it."
(Then pats Raichu on the head.)
(Mew kneels to Pikachu and Eevee.)
Mew: "There's more to raising a Pokemon than forcing it to evolve! And I like my Pokemon the way they are! It's their choice to evolve or not!"
(Soon, two members begin to laugh at them.)
Lt. Surge: "Wrong, baby. Electric Pokemon are only useful once they learned all their different electrical attacks. You keep it puny like that, it's no more than a little pet."
(Lt. Surge says.)
(This makes Pikachu really steamed, and Mew feels the same way.)
(This makes Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee really angry.)
Misty: "Can Mew and Pikachu really beat Raichu?"
(Misty wonders.)
Brock: "I'm not sure. That Raichu is very strong, especially since it knows all of its electrical attacks."
(Brock says.)
(Mew stands up.)
Mew: "Ready Pikachu!"
Pikachu: "Pikachu," (I'm ready)
(Pikachu says.)
(Raichu shrugs his shoulders.)
(Lt. Surge does the same.)
Lt. Surge: "Oh well. I guess you'll learn that playing with the big boys can be a shocking experience."
(Just then, the lights turn on, Mew and Pikachu stand on one side of the ring, while Surge and Raichu stand on the other.)
(Misty and Brock stand and watch.)
(The announcer says.)
The announcer: "The Pokemon battle will now begin. Only one Pokemon may be used. The gym leader, Lt. Surge has chosen Raichu. The challenger, Mew, has chosen Pikachu. No time limit! Let the battle begin!"
(Then the bell rings.)
(Lt. Surge calls out.)
Lt. Surge: "Go Raichu!"
Raichu: "Rai!"
(Raichu calls out going to the battle.)
Mew: "Go Pikachu!"
(Mew calls out.)
(Pikachu jumps in.)
Pikachu: "Pika!"
(Mew calls out.)
Mew: "Pikachu, Thunder Shock!"
(Pikachu cries out as it unleashes a Thunder Shock, but it doesn't affect Raichu much to Mew and Pikachu's shock.)
(Lt. Surge then calls out.)
Lt. Surge: "Raichu! Give it a real Thunder Shock!"
(Raichu then gives off a powerful Thunder Shock and strikes Pikachu.)
(Pikachu falls, and yet, it's able to get up.)
(Mew calls out.)
Mew: "Pikachu, are you okay?"
Pikachu: "Pika," (I'm okay.)
(Pikachu answers, nodding his head.)
(Mew calls out.)
Mew: "Alright Pikachu, time for a different approach."
Pikachu: "Pika!" (Right!)
(Pikachu says.)
(Pikachu runs to Raichu and tries to jump up, but Raichu counters with its tail.)
(Mew and the others become shocked.)
(Pikachu rolls over to the ground, but before he has the chance, Raichu uses its tail to keep it down.)
(Mew cries out.)
Mew: "Pikachu!
Misty: "Hang in there, Pikachu!"
(Misty calls out.)
Brock: "Pull to the side and break away!"
(Brock calls out.)
[Meanwhile...]
(Team Rocket is spying on the match.)
Jessie: "It can't lose!"
(Jessie panics.)
Meowth: "Not after the cheer we did!"
(Meowth adds.)
(Then James wonders.)
James: "Maybe we did the wrong kind of cheer."
(Lt. Surge then calls out.)
Lt. Surge: "Do it, Raichu! Give it the Body Slam!"
(Then Raichu lands on top of Pikachu, making the heroes gasp in shock.)
(Mew is desperately thinking of a way to figure out on how to defeat Lt. Surge.)
Mew: "I have to think of something. We need to find a way to beat Lt. Surge, but what can we do?"
(Mew wonders.)
(Suddenly, she remembers all the attacks that Raichu has.)
(And then remembers before the battle, she remembers Lt. Surge says statements about Pokemon are good when they evolve.)
(Mew gasps and realizes.)
Mew: "Wait, if what I think it's possible. Lt. Surge must have evolved his Raichu when he first got it, and if that's possible… then maybe…"
