Chapter 44 - Second chances

Adam faced the bewildered husband, still reeling from the sudden teleportation. "I'm trying to figure out how you might be someone I know," Adam said, his voice tinged with genuine confusion and a deep, unshakeable intuition.

The husband's eyes narrowed. "You just did something no human can do. What are you? A demon?"

"No, I'm not a demon," Adam began, but before he could elaborate, his wife, who had been listening intently from the couch, interrupted, her voice weak but clear.

"He's our son."

The husband stared, utterly confused. Adam, too, froze. "Mom?!" The word escaped him, a whisper of disbelief and a surging, impossible hope.

His mother, still dizzy, managed to sit up with her husband's help. "How can he be our son? We never had one," the husband insisted.

She shook her head, tears welling in her eyes. "I just... I saw it. A mental image. Us, living together. All three of us. The boy in the images looked younger, but... it was him. It was you. You have the same features. I don't know what I'm seeing, but it feels like... we're a family." Her hands reached out, trembling, touching Adam's face. "You are my son."

Tears streamed down Adam's face as he held her hand, a lifetime of suppressed grief and longing bursting forth. "Mom... I missed you so much."

The Kirin's Mystery

Lyra's voice, calm and analytical, resonated in his mind. "Adam, this is a peculiar incident, but I believe they could indeed be your parents, reincarnated through the normal route. Your heart is emitting traces of the Kirin's unique mana signature. It might be the key to unlocking memories across different worlds. The Kirin's true powers are largely unknown, but this suggests a profound connection to destinies and memories."

"You could try to make them touch your heart," Lyra continued, "to see if they regain their full memories. However, be warned: they may be mentally harmed in the process, overwhelmed by the sudden influx of past lives."

A glimmer of hope, brighter than any he'd known since arriving in this world, ignited within Adam. He looked at his parents, his heart swelling. He had a second chance.

"Please," Adam asked them, his voice thick with emotion, "I know this sounds strange, but... please touch my heart. Trust me."

His mother, her gaze unwavering, took her husband's hand, and together, their palms gently rested against Adam's chest. The Kirin's mana surged, a warm, golden light engulfing the room. Both parents slumped forward, their heads falling onto the table, unconscious.

"Adam," Lyra confirmed, "I believe both of them have regained full memories of their past lives."

Tears flowed freely down Adam's face, now tears of overwhelming joy and profound gratitude. He never thought he'd get a chance to tell them everything, to say the words he'd left unsaid in his previous life. They had always been his kind-hearted, doting parents, spoiling him with love. A sudden surge of nervousness mixed with his elation.
