Chapter 4 - Preparation and Exploration

Jinhyuk groaned as he sat up in bed, his body aching from the fight. He looked down at his torn, blood-soaked clothes. The rips and stains were a grim reminder of his near-death encounters.

"Guess these are useless now," he muttered, peeling them off and tossing them into the corner.

He stepped into the bathroom and turned on the shower, letting the warm water cascade over him. As the blood and grime swirled down the drain, he thought about the wolf's fangs sinking into his arm and the relentless blows he'd delivered to its skull.

"That was way too close," he murmured, scrubbing his face. "I need to be better prepared... and get a real weapon. No more oversized sticks."

After drying off, he slipped into a fresh set of clothes: black sweatpants and a plain white t-shirt with the word "T-SHIRT" printed boldly across it. Simple, clean, and comfortable. He sat on the edge of his bed, running his fingers through his damp hair.

"System," he called out, "do you have a shop option?"

The system responded with a familiar ding:

[Yes, Host. You have unlocked the shop function upon reaching Level 10.]

A window materialized before him, displaying an array of categories: Weapons, Armor, Potions, Skills, Tools, and more.

Jinhyuk noticed a gold coin icon at the top right corner of the screen, showing 5000 coins.

"Wait... how do I have 5000 coins?" he asked. "And how do I even earn coins?"

The system explained:

[Coins are earned by killing monsters and enemies. You received 500 coins for each goblin and 2500 coins for the abnormal wolf.]

He tilted his head. "Why didn't you notify me when I got them?"

[I deemed it unnecessary, but if the Host prefers—]

"Never mind," Jinhyuk interrupted. "It might've been distracting back then, anyway."

He began scrolling through the shop. Weapons with glowing descriptions caught his eye—blades that summoned fire, bows that shot lightning. But their prices ranged in the millions, far beyond his current reach.

"System," he asked, "can you filter the list for weapons within my level and price range?"

[Certainly.]

The list adjusted, showing weapons ranging from Level 1 to 12, priced between 100 and 5000 coins. Jinhyuk's gaze landed on a spear:

Name: Venomfang Spear

Level: 12

Price: 3200 coins

Effects:

+30 Strength

+20 Agility

+5 Sense

Special Abilities:

Inflicts poison, paralysis, and bleeding.

Gains strength with each kill.

"Wow," Jinhyuk whispered. "This thing is OP. Why is it so cheap?"

[The weapon stops growing after a certain threshold. To evolve it further, the Host will need 10 dragon hearts.]

He whistled low. "Hard, but not impossible. I'll take it."

[Purchase confirmed. 3200 coins deducted.]

The spear appeared in his inventory, glowing faintly. Jinhyuk admired its craftsmanship—a sleek shaft with intricate engravings, and a blade that seemed to hum with latent energy.

"I still have 1800 coins. Can I buy skills here?"

[Yes, Host. Would you like to browse available skills?]

"Show me something related to spears," he said.

[Basic Spearmanship – Level 12, 1500 coins.]

"Let's do it," Jinhyuk said, despite the hefty price. "Also, are there healing potions I can afford with what's left?"

[Low-Grade Healing Potion – 100 coins each. Purchasing three for 300 coins.]

The items appeared in his inventory. He tapped on the skill book, which shimmered and dissolved into a glowing light, flowing into him. Instinctively, he grabbed the spear and spun it. The movements came naturally—each twirl fluid, each thrust precise.

He ended with a sharp lunge and a confident stance, the spear gleaming in his hands. "This... feels amazing," he said with a grin.

Jinhyuk stepped out of his apartment and into the bustling city streets. Cars honked as they zipped past; the scent of street food wafted through the air. Vendors lined the sidewalks, hawking everything from skewered meats to shiny trinkets.

'So this is my starting point,' he thought, taking in the sprawling urban jungle.

He wandered past a park where kids played under the shade of tall oak trees. A musician strummed a guitar on a bench, their case open for coins. Further down, he stopped at a construction site fenced off with yellow tape.

A swirling gate shimmered ominously at its center, guarded by men in black suits.

'A dungeon gate,' Jinhyuk thought. He approached the edge of the tape.

[Some monsters in these gates are similar to those the Host has faced. Others are far more dangerous, hailing from different realms.]

He nodded and moved on, marveling at how this world mixed the mundane with the extraordinary.

The streets grew quieter as he ventured deeper into the city, passing alleys and towering skyscrapers. By the time he returned to his apartment, the sun was beginning to dip below the horizon.

"Alright," he said, stretching. "A quick nap, then it's back to leveling up."

He collapsed onto the bed, clutching the spear in his hand, and drifted into a deep sleep.
