Lily Evans POV
The coffee mug shattered in my hands.
Hot liquid splashed everywhere as I looked at the morning news on my phone. The story made my blood turn to ice: "MYSTERIOUS CHILD DISAPPEARANCES LINKED TO SUPERNATURAL ACTIVITY - FBI INVESTIGATING."
Three photos stared back at me. Three children who looked exactly like Emma - bright eyes, innocent smiles, and according to the story, all had shown "unusual abilities" before vanishing without a trace.
"Mommy?" Emma's voice came from the kitchen doorway. "You're bleeding."
I looked down at my hands, seeing cuts from the broken mug. But that wasn't what made me freeze. Emma was floating six inches off the ground, her silver light quivering like a heartbeat.
"Emma, come down right now," I whispered, running to close the curtains.
She dropped to the floor with a soft thud. "I can't help it anymore, Mommy. The light wants to come out all the time now."
My phone rang. Dominic's name showed on the screen.
