Dominic Stone POV
The gunshot echoed through the trees like thunder.
I dropped to the ground behind a fallen log, my heart beating so hard I thought it might burst. My seven-year-old hands shook as I pressed them against the dirt, trying to make myself as small as possible.
"Find the boy!" a man's voice yelled. "He's got the same powers as the girl!"
I squeezed my eyes shut, remembering what Uncle Marcus had told me before he died. "Never let them know what you can do, Dominic. Never let them see your gift."
But it was too late. They'd already seen me move the big rocks without touching them. They'd seen me break the metal box just by thinking about it. Now they wanted to catch me just like they'd caught the other kids.
The footsteps got closer. I could hear twigs snapping under their boots.
"Dominic!" It was Victoria's voice, but she sounded different. Scared. "Dominic, where are you?"
