Chapter 1 - One

Chapter One: Not So Perfect, Actually

It was Daisy Hubble's first day as a doctor at the prestigious City Hospital — the dream she'd nurtured since she was a little girl playing with plastic stethoscopes in her bedroom. She'd passed the interview. She'd secured the job. She should be over the moon.

But instead, she was thirty minutes late.

Thirty. Whole. Minutes.

If she were superstitious — and today, she was feeling just a little that way — she'd swear the evil spirits from her home country had followed her into this new chapter of life, just to mess things up.

Of all the things Daisy hated in this world, being late was top of the list.

Events, birthdays, picnics, doctor appointments — she arrived early to everything.

But now? On the one day that actually mattered? She was going to walk in late, humiliated, and probably unemployed before lunchtime.

"I'm definitely getting fired on my first day," she muttered under her breath, tossing another pair of shoes across the room.

Because yes — the reason she was late wasn't traffic or weather or even bad luck.

It was her shoes.

She couldn't find the right ones to match her outfit.

And looking perfect mattered.

It mattered a lot.

"I should've listened to my mom when she kept telling me to prepare for sh*t like this in advance... Now my life is over," Daisy groaned, collapsing onto the bed like she was starring in a melodrama.

The tears weren't real — not yet, anyway. But the stress? Very real.

And the clock was still ticking, still judging her.

She exhaled — loudly.

One of those sighs that came from deep in her chest. Then, in a burst of chaos-fueled clarity, she yanked off her dress and reached for a new outfit.

This time, she chose a perfectly palated black-and-white combo: a sleek black skirt paired with a crisp, long-sleeved white button-down. Clean. Classic. Crisis-proof.

She slid her feet into a pair of black loafers that matched flawlessly.

There. Fashionably late… but still fashionable.

Because yes — Daisy Hubble was also a fashionista.

She believed in perfection. She lived for aesthetic.

And unfortunately, today was already off to a messy start.

But maybe — just maybe — it wasn't ruined.

Not yet.

She looked at herself in the mirror and smirked. Not because she looked good—though she did—but because everything was going to shit and she still had the nerve to act unbothered.

She was fucking late. And not "a few minutes behind" late—more like, "they're already halfway through the damn event" late. She knew she had no time to be vain, no time to admire how the black loafer and pleated skirt made her look like someone who had it all together. But still, she sprayed her perfume one last time. Two generous spritzes. Hell, if she was going to crash in late, she might as well smell like a luxury candle.

She grabbed her bag, phone, and keys in one swift motion and bolted out of the apartment.

The sun was hotter than it had any right to be. The world didn't care about her meltdown, clearly.

At least she had a car. And a license.

One less thing to cry about, she muttered under her breath as she slid into the driver's seat, tossing her bag in the passenger seat like it had betrayed her.

She took one deep breath. "Traffic, please be nice," she whispered like it was a prayer. Her fingers clenched the steering wheel.

Then—vroom.

The engine roared to life and so did her anxiety.

Thank God the traffic was nice, just like she prayed. She got to the parking lot and parked her car beautifully—perfect, as always.

"Time to face my fate," she exhaled and ran as fast as she could inside, heading straight for the Staff Entrance near the Administrative Office to clock in, like every hospital worker did at the start of their shift.

Here goes nothing...she exhaled one last time before going in.

She had been waiting for this day for a very long time. The day she would start her dream job and get professional. She's doing it even if she's late on her first day.

All her life, she and many others believed that she wasn't good at anything and may never be good. She hated that. She hated how right those people were at that time. She wanted to prove everyone wrong including herself that she could actually be good at something and got there already.

She was confident and was also panicking inwardly but mostly confident. She's waited for this day for so long and now it's finally here. What could possibly go wrong?

She was about to step into the office when she heard "You're late, Ms Hubble"

Oh no...she was frozen in place as if someone poured a bucket of cold water on her. What the actual fuck is this? She cried inwardly.

She turned slowly to look at whoever the person was, the person obviously wasting her time or her to be her guide.

The lady in front of her was good-looking. With perfect bun and a blouse and skirt that looked perfect on her but wasn't Daisy's style at all. The both of them scanned each other with their eyes for a short time that seemed like a long time before Someone finally spoke.

"You are....?" Daisy didn't complete the question but the woman in front of her understood.

"I'm Ms Tiana Roy, the head of Paediatrics department which you're part of. That means I'm your superior, remember that."

Daisy stared at her blankly. ''oh?''

She straightened "looks like you already know me so no need to introduce myself, right?"

Tiana didn't answer.

"Started as a newbie today. Probably the most junior here but I'm get better in no time at all." She knew why she said those.

"Doesn't change the fact that you're late. Already showing how terrible you'll be"

Daisy sighed "looking forward to getting better than you" she smiled and walked out of her sight to clock in.

"Who does she think she is. Telling me rubbish" .

She just resumed and already has an enemy. What will happen now?
