Chapter 3 - First Steps

I opened my mouth to respond when I felt a force enact its will onto me. I felt it before I heard it, A tear in reality making itself known behind me pulling me off of my feet and dragging me into its empty desolate abyss.

Anxiety makes itself known as I am being forced into this black portal with no sign of any light, I almost screamed but before I could release any sounds I was thrust back into reality..

That very moment I go from feeling nothing to feeling everything isn't one I will soon forget. The technology Progenitor Online is using has got to be cutting edge, I feel every sensation coming back to me in colors and smells that I haven't smelled or seen in a long time.

Looking around it seems I loaded in next to the village not inside which I am actually thankful for as it gives me a reason to show up and interact with the locals instead of just appearing inside the village.

Clicking on the settings I open up the Live streaming options, Pulling up my account and making sure everything is how I want, I press the Go Live option. 3. 2. 1. I'm Live. Watching my viewers go from 0 to 15 immediately was more exciting than I thought it would be.

My adrenaline kicked in a little and I started talking to Chat "Hey Chat, My name's K1ng on slipstream but Im Jason Blood In Game. I was Inspired by Khalancy to stream my experience in this New world. I am going to actually try to immerse myself into this world and experience it how it was meant to be experienced. Please be patient with me"

Looking at chat I see it moving crazy fast. Not knowing what's going on I look at viewers and see that I am holding steady at 1.5k viewers right now. Shock immediately takes hold and I realize that everyone is curious about this new game, I can be like my favorite streamers.

Chat: 1.6K

Ethan_underwood2332: First in Chat, what's up Jason!!

ETC…

Looking at my chat I can only read the first few chats before all the chat starts to blur and it's hard to even read. "How about we get started, I'm not going to be interacting with you guys alot, Imagine you're watching a movie you guys are the camera to my life.. Let's see how interesting this can get!"

Glancing around, I can see the gate to the village opening and people coming out with spears and Bows. They must be the warriors of this village, I can see a man draped in the skin of Predators, Eyes that have an undeniable fierceness with the unmistakable aura of a Leader.

The people seem to be mostly mixed race with some having black curly hair or Silky straight hair. The Soldiers are dressed in tough animal hides protecting all of their vulnerable areas. I can see the weariness on their faces from a distance, The leader steps through all of the warriors and they part to let him through showing the discipline and respect that the warriors have for this man.

"Hello young man, what can My village and I do for you today?" such a simple question yet has profound repercussions if handled poorly.. It takes me a minute to respond..

"Hello young man, what can My village and I do for you today?" such a simple question yet has profound repercussions if handled poorly.. It takes me a minute to respond..

"Hello Village leader, I am Jason Blood and I have been traveling for a while now to reach this place.. I wish to make Eden my home if that's possible ?"

I can see my answer/question make its way through his mind before he responds.

"It is nice to meet you Jason, My name is Andres and I am the third Chief of the Village eden. Normally your request would be a simple one however recently we have been having weird happenings at night in our village. I am not against allowing you into our village but be warned that we are currently doing our best to figure out what dark magic is at work."

Listening to Andres speak about his village I know almost instinctively what he is talking about. There is an oppressive aura that would usually go unnoticed if not for my hunters mark slightly burning the dark energies in the Air.

"I have been traveling for a while now, I think it is time I finally settle down Andres. I may even be able to help you with your problem. Do you have a place we can go talk privately so that I can offer insight into your problem?"

Andres looks at me intently, Scanning me up and down twice before he responds to me. "Jason, I know you say you have seen a lot and I appreciate your offer for help really I do but are you sure you want to involve yourself in this. I have never seen anything quite like this before! We've faced bandits and beasts, but never anything like this. It's as if death itself has been twisted.." He explains that for the past few nights, an unseen terror has gripped Eden. Villagers are found mutilated and defiled, yet eerily, their bodies continue to move the next day, shambling husks that must be confined or destroyed.

Listening to Andres I can hear the seriousness in his voice, "Lead the way Andres and let me see the darkness in which you describe."

Andres led the way, his sturdy frame surprisingly tense. The stone church, usually a beacon of peace in Eden, now cast a long, grim shadow. As they approached, the familiar burning on Jason's arm intensified, the runes on his Hunter's Mark pulsing with an urgent, sickly light. The needle spun wildly before settling on a fixed point: inside the very building they were heading towards.

"This is our church," Andres explained, his voice low, "dedicated to the spirit of the River of Life, and of course, the All-Mother Eve, the Goddess of Creation." He gestured to the carved wooden doors, which seemed heavier, more imposing than they should. "The All-Mother is worshipped everywhere, as there would not be an us without HER. The citizens also worship the spirit of the river, who provides healing to us sometimes. Other villages may worship the spirit of War, the spirit of secrets..." His voice trailed off as he pushed open one of the massive doors.

The interior of the church was eerily quiet, save for a low, guttural moan that seemed to emanate from deeper within. The air, usually reminiscent of incense and beeswax, was thick with the sickly sweetness of decay and something else, a cold, metallic tang that raised the hairs on Jason's neck. Candles flickered in the gloom, casting dancing shadows that made the familiar carvings of saints and protective symbols seem distorted, almost menacing.

"We... we've converted the crypt below for now," Andres said, his hand hovering over a latch in the floor near the altar. "It's the only place we could properly secure them." He lifted the heavy wooden trapdoor, revealing a set of rough-hewn stone steps descending into utter darkness. A blast of frigid, feral air rushed up, carrying with it the unmistakable stench of death, amplified by something unnatural.

Jason felt a surge of cold dread, but his Hunter's Mark blazed on his arm, demanding action. The needle was now pointing directly down the steps, vibrating with an almost frantic energy. This was it. This was the twisted death Andres spoke of.

"After you," Jason said, his voice steady despite the churning in his gut. He gripped his phantom axe, a subconscious comfort. He was ready to face whatever horrors awaited in the depths of Eden's church.
