Chapter 25 - chapter25

In Danyang City of Danzhou, Aenwyn looked out the carriage window, casually taking in the view of the ancient city. The two of them were traveling alone, and because the road was unsafe, they had disguised themselves as two brothers and joined a team of bodyguards.

It turned out to be the right decision, as they had already encountered two groups of mountain bandits along the way.

"A-Indigo, have you ever been to Danyang City?" Aenwyn asked while looking outside.

The ancient Danyang City was bustling with people. Carriages moved like flowing water and horses like a dragon's march. Aenwyn finally realized that even in ancient times, there could be traffic jams, and they could be this bad.

Aenwyn was amazed. The biggest city in Danzhou really was something else.

Indigo was half-lying on the soft couch in the carriage. His black hair flowed like a waterfall, and his features were delicate. Aenwyn didn't try to make him look ugly. Instead, she softened the sharp lines of his face and his handsome brows, making him look very elegant.

When lying sideways and not showing his figure, he looked like a woman.

Indigo naturally had pale skin, and after getting injured, he looked even paler. She adjusted his complexion to a sickly yellow. Because of his injuries, he looked like a handsome young man who had been ill for a long time.

Compared to how he looked before, healthy and coldly elegant, he now seemed like a completely different person.

While they were stuck in traffic, a young bodyguard came over.

He lightly knocked on the carriage wall, "Young Master Jia, we've arrived in Danyang City."

The young man sounded a bit reluctant. "I should escort you two back to the residence first."

"We're planning to rest in Danyang for a few days."

According to what they had discussed with Shun, Aenwyn planned to rest here for a few days and then take a boat to the capital.

After all, they had been traveling for over ten days. Indigo's wounds couldn't handle too much bumping around.

Inside the carriage, Indigo, now called Young Master Jia, heard the voices outside and looked displeased.

The two of them had taken the names Jia Yi and Jia Er.

Indigo was Jia Yi, and Aenwyn was Jia Er. Don't think the names were fake, they did belong to real brothers.

It was just that the original people had met with tragedy. Their families hadn't reported their deaths yet, so Shun paid a high price to get their identities.

Aenwyn saw Indigo frowning and covered her mouth to laugh quietly.

She really didn't do it on purpose. It was just that Indigo's features were so good-looking, even in disguise he still attracted men.

Ha, it was just too funny.

In this world, because of the lack of women, slim and handsome men were very popular. And in just a few days, Indigo had already attracted a small admirer.

As for her, she had purposely made her features plain, so she looked very ordinary.

There was no response in the carriage for a long time. "Young Master Jia?"

Aenwyn slightly lifted the curtain and saw the young man's disappointed face. She couldn't help but laugh out loud again.

"Thank you, young master, but we have some errands to take care of before going home, so we won't trouble you."

"Ah, alright then." The man wanted to take a look inside, but the curtain only opened a little, so he couldn't see anything. He hesitated for a moment, met Aenwyn's eyes, and his face turned a bit red.

Actually, he quite liked this Young Master Jia Er. His eyes were beautiful, and his voice was especially pleasant.

The young master scolded himself in his heart for being so easily swayed. He thought he should just save money early and visit the maternity hall. Maybe once he had experienced a woman, he wouldn't keep thinking about handsome men.

Aenwyn smiled and let down the curtain. Thanks to this young master, they had received a lot of special treatment on this trip. If it weren't for Indigo's resistance, they probably would have stayed a few more days and continued north with the bodyguards.

After the curtain was down, Indigo looked at Aenwyn's smiling face and suddenly pressed her down.

"You think it's funny?" he asked as he leaned over her. They were very close, and their breaths mingled.

The young man's eyes were deep as he stared into hers.

"Cough cough, no. It's just because Indigo is so good-looking." Aenwyn saw that he was slightly embarrassed and quickly tried to calm him.

She had learned a bit about how to get along with him by now.

This was definitely not the time to let him lose his temper, or he would stay cold for several days, enough to freeze her.

Looking into the girl's sparkling eyes, Indigo's tone softened. "What's the use of being good-looking?"

If this had happened in the past, he would have already whipped that man. How could he let him walk away unharmed?

"I like good-looking people," Aenwyn said.

Her fingers gently brushed over his eyebrows and eyes. "Our Indigo's features are really perfect. Your eyebrows are nice, your eyes are nice, your nose is nice, and even your mouth is nice."

She coaxed him with sweet words.

Indigo's lips couldn't help but curl up. "Your vocabulary is too small. You haven't learned enough of the local language, have you?"

"He's just too good-looking, I can't describe it properly," Aenwyn said, holding his face with a troubled look.

Indigo looked at her being silly, cute and playful. His gaze darkened, and he lowered his head to kiss her.

Not good, she had teased him too far. Aenwyn silently thought this was bad.

Luckily, the carriage started moving at that moment, creaking as it rocked forward. Indigo's misplaced kiss landed on her neck.

He didn't move, just lay on top of her.

After a while,

"You're not allowed to smile at other men," he said, catching his breath. His voice had a nasal tone because it was pressed against her neck.

"And you're not allowed to talk to other men either."

Hey, hey. Aenwyn didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Not smiling at other men was doable, but not talking to them? How was that possible?

On this journey, she had seen almost only men. Even when there were a few women, they were surrounded by many strong men, and there was no chance to speak anyway.

Aenwyn had only seen women when they entered Danyang City just now, and they were actually young women.

She looked over in surprise. Only when the carriage fully passed them did she pull her gaze back.

Indigo saw that Aenwyn didn't answer, so he casually bit her neck.

The sudden pain snapped her back to reality. She grabbed his hair and pulled his head away. "I told you not to bite me again."

The spot he bit on her collarbone last time hadn't healed yet.

"Ouch!" someone cried out in a hoarse voice, neck tilted back.

Ouch my foot, she didn't even use much strength. Still, Aenwyn subconsciously loosened her grip.

Indigo curled up like a shrimp, "It really hurts."

Did she actually hurt him? Or was it his wound? Aenwyn wondered if she had accidentally touched it.

"Indigo, bear with it. Let's go to the clinic first."

"I don't want to go. You scolded me." The tall, long-legged man said softly, acting more delicate since he got injured.

Aenwyn gave in, "I didn't." She looked like she was about to cry. "Did the wound open? Let's go see the doctor first."

"You can't smile at other men in the future."

"Alright, alright, I won't smile at other men."

Aenwyn coaxed him while trying to pull open his clothes to check if it was bleeding again.

"There's no bleeding. Just let me lean on you for a bit." The young man spoke gently, leaning his body toward her. His smooth motion didn't look weak at all.

Aenwyn snapped out of it and glanced at him suspiciously, seriously doubting if he was pretending to be hurt.

"Indigo, are you tricking me?" Where did her cool and elegant young man go? What kind of sly fox spirit had taken over his body?

"…" Indigo said nothing.

By the time the carriage stopped in front of an inn, Aenwyn still hadn't figured out if he was just playing her.

"Whoa!" The coachman stopped the carriage steadily. "Master, we've arrived. This is the largest inn in Danyang."

The coachman and carriage were rented last-minute. Since suspecting spies in the household, they had stopped using anything marked with the Yue family insignia.

Even Shun only knew their general route.

With such caution, their journey had been smooth so far, and they hadn't run into any more of those killers from Dead Man's Gorge.

Unfortunately, luck wasn't on their side. The inn was full.

"Sorry, guests, there really are no rooms left," the innkeeper said.

"Not even one?"

"Not just us, even the lesser inns in Danyang are fully booked these past few days."

Seeing Aenwyn confused, the innkeeper explained, "You must be from out of town. These days we're holding the Danyang Festival. Besides the Huashu Studio calligraphy and painting contest, there's also the female entertainer selection."

"Even half a month ago, all the rooms were already booked."

Female entertainer selection??? Aenwyn widened her eyes.
