Chapter 4 - The encounter

The time was 9:00 pm and the O'connor's grocery shop was packing up for the day, Laura counted the cash in the register to conclude the days account as she usually does, she scrolled through the computer trying to reconcile the sales of the day in order to balance the books, Mr O'connor had called out to her about fifteen minutes ago to tell her he was leaving and urged her to close for he knew Laura resented going home to her uncle's house, she would live in the shop if she could. She made her round in the shop to ensure everything was in place, she checked the back door making sure it was locked, then she put the cash in the safe in Mr O'connors office before picking up her bag and coat. The weather looked gloom, the sky rumbled like it will rain, it rained a lot in Little Borough and that made for the green trees and grasses and the clear streams in little Borough. Laura stalled a bit inside the shop wishing a customer will come in wanting to buy one thing or another but she knew that the inhabitants of Little Borough were all at home at this time and in this weather, in their cozy cottage houses drinking warm soup or telling stories by the fire. Laura picked up the keys to the front door, took a deep breath and stepped outside to the chilly night air. She locked the shop quickly and slowly made her way home, she knew what awaited her at home, she knew her uncle will be waiting at the door to haul insults at her, there will be dishes undone in the sink of meals she did not eat waiting for her to clean, she felt sad at the thought of it but that is how her life is at the moment. The streets were empty at this time of the night but Laura was not afraid, Little Borough was not known for crimes like theft or kidnapping or any evil like the big cities experienced, she listened to the crickets as they cricked in their millions sounding like the gentle rushing of the stream, she heard the owls making their hooting sounds and felt the cool breeze blow across her face, it looked like there will be a storm tonight. Laura walked slowly wishing her home was a bit farther, she enjoyed her walk and the opportunity to wish her thoughts upon the stairs, she was too preoccupied with her thoughts she did not see the hooded figure coming towards her, the figure was so tall Laura looked like a small women being close to it despite the fact that Laura was tall herself with long legs that went on and on forever; they collided into each other and the smart phone the figure held crashed to the ground just as Laura staggered and fell too. For a moment the night became still, Laura was truly frightened, who could it be at this hour? She did not expect to see anyone in the street by this time. The figure picked up his phone and hurriedly moved towards Laura to help her up on her feet, he gently held Laura like a child lifting her up to stand on her feet while apologizing, "I am so sorry Miss, I hope you are not hurt" he asked, Laura shivered at the timbre of his voice, she had never been so close to a man before in her life, she breathed his scent, she felt his heat caressing her skin, "are you ok", the voice asked again, Laura Stuttered," I am fine, I hope your phone is not broken" Laura asked as she lifted her eyes to stare into the strangers eyes, the figure took of his hood and Laura's breath seized as she gazed into the most enchanting blue eyes she had ever seen, he had blonde hair and a chiseled chin, blue eyes like the ocean Laura drowned in them, her airs trailed his muscular arms and broad shoulders, he was like a god out of a Greek myth, her eyes moved lower to his waist and then his legs and Laura gulped, "My name is Terry" the stranger spoke, Laura snapped out of her trance and stretched her hands like a statue as she introduced herself to him. "My name is ... is... em... Laura" she stammered, her heart fluttered and she could hear every beat. Sorry about that, I hope you are not hurt, nice to meet you Laura Terry said as he hurried away, Laura waved sheepishly while starring at the retreating figure, and she wondered if she will ever see him again, she felt an intense desire to see him again, for the first time in her life Laura knew what desire and longing for another felt like. But she wondered as she walked home who Terry was, all her years in Little Borough she had never seen him, Terry, his image was engraved in her mind already and she hoped they meet again. That night as Laura slept she dreamt about Terry, he came in to her room and got into bed with her, she gazed into his eyes as they held each other ever so lovingly her heart raced so fast she could almost hear her heartbeat, this has to be heaven she thought, Terry starred into her eyes as he stroked her hair she could feel the heat in-between her legs as they locked lips in one glorious moment, she fell into a void, a darkness like she has never known; this cannot be right she thought all the while slipping into deeper sleep until memory could hold no more all her thoughts still as the springs in Little Borough, darkness enveloped her completely as she slept.
