Chapter 14 - Search Of Old File

Xavier~

"Mr. Thompson, see you tomorrow." She waved her hand after coming out of the police station.

"Sure, I will be waiting for you. Take care, bella." When I saw her walking towards her car, I waved my hand.

I stared at her car until it blurred from my vision. She is the woman who always takes care of my car keys and never dared to touch my car without my permission. Now she has a top model and top brand car, and she drives her cars on her own. The more time I spend with her, the more I am compelled to drool over her. I feel an overwhelming attraction towards her at all times. I let out a long sigh to escape the sadness, love, and loneliness I was experiencing inside.

I'm finally out of jail after three months, but where do I go now? I'm not interested in going back home. For me, that house holds a lot of bitter memories of Alicia. I'm not sad about her passing, but her murder did cause me a lot of sadness. We got to the point where I didn't want to live with her anymore, but I also didn't want to part ways with her in this manner.

I feel heartbroken for not finding any of my family members waiting outside the prison for me. If nothing else, they may come to see me today. My dad behaved so cold-heartedly that he didn't even see my face after my anniversary day. After that day, my elder brother and his family showed no interest in interacting with me, despite my repeated attempts to contact them. They refused to meet me or see my face again. The day after the anniversary party, my younger brother Victor vanished. I looked everywhere for him, but I couldn't find him.

I have to meet my dad today. Now that Isabella has stood up for me, I'm sure he'll forgive me. In hopes of getting forgiveness from my dad, I took a cab to his house. Since it's evening and my dad is sitting in the garden, I can easily reach him. Although his security guard prevented me from entering his mansion, I was at a distance where he could hear me properly.

"Dad, I got bail today, and you know who got it—your daughter-in-law, Isabella." He lifted his gaze from the iPad and looked at my face. He gestured for his security guard to let me in. As soon as the security guard opened the main door, I ran towards him.

"I missed you, Dad." Upon seeing my father after a long absence, tears filled my eyes. His once shiny black hair turned grey, and wrinkles now cover his face.

"What brings you here?" He stopped me from hugging him and asked me in a sharp tone.

"Dad, please don't be angry with me now, as you know I got my karma. Please pardon me now." I bowed down before him.

"Xavier, please don't bother me again; I have nothing to do with you right now." He turned his face in another direction to avoid looking at me.

"Dad, why are you still holding grudges about the past when Isabella has already forgotten about it and chosen to defend me?" I turned around to face him.

"Do you truly think that you are the reason she chose this case, Xavier? She has nothing to do with you now; she has already moved on in her life. She chose this case for other reasons, so don't ignite hope in your heart. Furthermore, until Isabella forgives you, I will not pardon you for whatever karma you have accumulated in your life." Rising from the garden chair, he motioned for his security guy to exclude me from his residence.

My heart shattered completely on seeing my dad's bitterness for me. I was his pride, but now, because of my mistakes, he looks at me with disgust. The security guard asked me to leave the mansion, so I gathered myself and went to the hotel to spend the night. I have to rent an apartment soon, as I don't want to live in my old house anymore.

The whole night, my dad's words echoed in my ears. Isabella had other reasons for picking this case, but she didn't choose it for me. But why did she select this particular case? Did she want to take revenge on me? No, she can't do this; she will never put her career at stake just to take revenge on me. But what other reason could she be defending me?

I reached my office early in the morning. Following my arrest, my office remained closed, with only a single security guard and housekeeper providing office security. I arrived at my office and opened my case file for inspection.

Why she wants to examine all of my case files is beyond me. There are more than 1000 cases.

"Mr. Thompson, we shall begin." Since I no longer have the self-assurance to take on anyone in a legal battle, I've been engrossed in reviewing my case files and reflecting on the many situations in which I was involved.

"Bella, you arrived so quickly." She reminds me of a flower in bloom in the desert.

She shrugged her shoulders, keeping her demeanor as icy as ever.

"Please take a seat." I waved her over to a seat.

"No, I'm not here to relax; instead, we should get to work on the numerous tasks at hand." She went into the file storage area after placing the bag on my office table.

"Bella, why are you bothering yourself? Which file do you need? Tell me. I will bring it to you in the office." Because of the dust and spider webs, I don't want her going into the old storeroom.

"No, I have to check every file on my own." She started searching files alphabetically and obstinately ignored my request. I'm not sure what list she used, but it seems like she limited her search to certain years and months. She requested that I bring a few files to the office table after she had chosen them.

"Mr. Thompson, where is your old case file, which you fought in just the beginning of your law career?" She questioned me.

"Over there. However, what link exists between those previous cases and this one? The dead are already asleep beneath the tomb, so why are you disturbing them?" I looked up at her, perplexed.

Disregarding my advice, she pulled the ladder to go to that specific file portion.

"Bella, please come down. I'll assist you in getting the file. The racks are too high for you to fall off." I asked her to get down, but she disregarded me once more and started looking through files. She had pulled files and gave them to me. Even after my hand was filled with bulky folders, she continued to search for additional files.

"Bella, please tell me what you want to do with these files. I asked her once more."

"Mr. Thompson, just one more file; please wait." In a desperate attempt to find a file, she moved the ladder to a different part of the room, and eventually, above the rack, where the ladder could not reach, she discovered the file.

"Let me help." To assist her, I spread out all the files on the ground.

"No, Mr. Thompson, I'll handle it." Reluctantly, she leaped from the ladder and grabbed the file that was above the rack, but her body was unsteady, and she was about to kiss the hard floor of the room.
