Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 — You Were Never Here

"People think dying is the worst thing that can happen to you. They're wrong." A silent library, just before sunset. Light cuts through cracked windows. Footsteps echo. SERA MYU, sixteen, is running. Eyes wide. Blood on her sleeve. She clutches a pendant—her name barely etched into it. She ducks into a reading room, breathing hard. Slips a note into a book. "If you're reading this… remember me." The lights flicker. A shadow. A man in black Archivist robes steps forward. ARCHIVIST: "Your record ends here." Sera screams—White light. Silence. No body. No trace. She's gone.

The next day. RIN KAIZEN, 17, sharp-eyed and tired, leans against the rooftop fence. Inner monologue: "You ever feel like someone's missing, but you don't know who? Like your heart remembers a name your brain can't?" He walks into class. Looks at the seat beside him. Empty. RIN: "Where's Sera?" CLASSMATE: "Sera who?" His phone—no messages. His photos—her face blurred. Her locker—untouched. Teacher: "There's never been a student named Sera Myu." Rin goes home. Finds an old box. Inside: a folded note. "I'm real. Remember me, Rin." Flashback. Rin and Sera on a rooftop. SERA (past): "If I vanish, promise me you'll remember." RIN: "Even if the world forgets, I won't." Back in his room. He breathes in, jaw clenched. "This isn't over."

His phone glitches. A message appears: "Come to the old library. Midnight. Bring nothing. Speak no names." He goes. Finds a boy waiting. Calm. Gloves. Cold eyes. KURO: "You're not crazy. You're immune." RIN: "Immune to what?" Kuro walks past a shelf. Touches a book. It vanishes. KURO: "The Archivists erase people. From memories. From records. From time." RIN: "Why?" KURO: "Because memory is power. And power must be controlled." Rin throws a punch. Kuro catches it. KURO: "You want her back? Then you'll have to rewrite the world. And that makes you their enemy."

Rin returns home. Stares into the mirror. Fog on the glass. A message appears: "I'm still here, Rin." His reflection slowly fades.
