Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE

ALPHA KEN'S POV

'Mated to a rogue?' I muttered under harsh breath, glaring at her.

The air surrounding us thickened, and my damn senses came alive from just staring into her eyes. Slowly hating how it was she suddenly made me feel, I backed away from her the minute I felt an inexplicable jolt in my head, my eyes suddenly finding it difficult to leave hers.

"it can't be!" I grumbled, pulling her up fully to her feet, and then, I grabbed her by the wrist as she tried to wrench free from my hard grip.

Seeing that she looked fragile did something to my wolf. Her skin pale and clammy made it worse in my head. I swallowed the bile rising in my throat, ignoring all those thoughts as I had her dragged down the hallway to the sacred cell of my mansion, knowing she was better off locked in there, rather than with the others.

If regular pack meetings were long, royal pack meetings were interminable. The novelty of being surrounded by the pack's richest and most famous elders faded fast the longer I sat on that ass-numbing wooden pew.

I was quite attentive for most of the meeting, but annoyingly all I could think about was the blonde-haired girl from earlier. The way we left things the night before gnawed at me and if we didn't clear the air about the mating thing, I would fucking lose it.

With one leg crossed over the other, my mind trailed off to how she looked when I stared at her. She had on this emerald cashmere dress, one could bet I'd never seen before, but she glowed in a way that made it impossible to look away.

Earlier, I traced her features with my eyes, soaking in the lush curve of her lips and the fine planes of her features. When she smiled at my response, something tripped in my heart. Some people smiled with their mouths, but the blonde smiled with her whole face. The sparkle in her eyes, the adorable crinkle of her nose, the small crease in her cheeks.

I cursed myself forever having to realize that watching her smile was like watching the night sky light up with stars.

"She has to be killed, no trespasser survives the wrath of the Alpha, not even after being caught," an elder said. My muscles tightened at the sound of their judgment and instantly I bobbed my head in disagreement.

"I pass the judgment around here and I say she lives!" I protested and the minute I did, they all stared back at me, some with curiosity, others with scrutiny.

"But she's a trespasser, Alpha, and---" Another elder protested but was suddenly cut off by the snap of my finger and the sound of the door that swung open almost instantly, cutting us all off from whatever we had left to say.

"She has escaped!" one of my guards, barged in yelling.

Hot sparks of awareness blazed down my spine with such force I almost lurched off my seat. I curled my hand around my knee glaring at him, and then knowing she definitely wouldn't have gone far.

"Send out men to get her and make sure she's caught!" I ordered and without a glance back at my elders, I perked up to my feet and headed for my bedroom wanting to calm my racing nerves over a mate on the run.

Leaning on the shelf beside my bed, the sudden empty amulet stand caught my attention and slowly it dawned on me that the pack amulet of time and protection had been stolen.

"Fuck!" I mumbled in anger as I stormed out of my bedroom yelling to my guards and beta Carl. But just as I had gotten up close to Carl, the look in his eyes made it quite obvious that he had more news.

"Spill," I growled, taking more steps towards him.

"We found her and we found that she'd taken the Amulet with her. Luckily for us, we had her caught at the edge of the pack," He said.

"Get her ready for trial," I snapped, ignoring the sudden banter of my wolf in my head, fully resisting the urge to listen to her pleas knowing she had to be punished for such a treasonous act.

I barged into the hall where they had her tied to a pillar, members of my pack yelling as they spat on her.

"Please!" I cried out.

"I didn't take it, I'm being falsely accused!"

I bit the inside of my mouth until I felt a coppery taste, from just watching my mate dragged and tied like some offender. My wolf growled at me to save her, but I tightened my fist ignoring him.

I sat still in my chair, watching the large blade raised by my guard ready to chop her head off, but just as he had it lowered halfway to her neck, the door swung open alongside the shattering of glass, causing chaos in the hall.

My eyes trailed off to the entrance where the bustle had come from and in seconds, I soon realized what the heck was happening.

"We're getting attacked by those damn rogues!"
