Chapter 7 - The Village

I'd finally done it—the copybook was mine!

Now… I needed that key.

But most importantly—

HOW DO I ESCAPE THESE ANGRY VILLAGERS?!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BLIP!

QUEST #5: Find The Key

I checked my inventory

Inventory:

- Copybook

- Herb Bottle

WHAT DO I DO TO KEEP THOSE VILLAGERS AWAY?! THEY'RE NO DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST SHOVEL-WIELDER I MET!

Then I discovered the window had a next page:

SKILLS:

Aquarin Of The Lake -LOCKED-(Lv. 3 Required)

What to do with something locked with those people ?!

"AQUARIN, WHATEVER YOU ARE—HELP!

But nothing happened.

The window timed out—and closed.

"NOO! DON'T CLOSE ON MYFACE!"

I yelled at the villagers:

"I'VE GOT A RARE HERB! YOU GUYS SHOULD TRY IT!"

"WHAT HERB YOU TALKIN' ABOUT?!"

"GET OUT, STRANGER!!"

I couldn't run anymore.

I stopped.

They closed in

boots cracking ribs,

shovels crushing breath,

until everything went dark.

Again.

"Finally... food!!"

Don't tell me

DON'T TELL ME!!

Oh, thank god.

That was just a hallucination.

I found myself in the woods,

the copybook solid in my hands.

I shouldn't approach that place… it's crawling with danger.

If only I had a map—

A map.

Maybe… a shop?

Oh yeah—a shop.

That's why I have to push forward.

Straight into those angry villagers.

I opened the window again—I was starting to understand how to summon it!

Inventory:

- COPYBOOK

- HERB BOTTLE [OBTAINED]

Time to find wood and white fabric.

I approached the village, a makeshift surrender flag raised high.

"I GIVE UP! PLEASE DON'T HURT ME!"

"TAKE THIS HERB BOTTLE!"

The wisest villager (or at least the least impulsive) stepped forward, inspecting the bottle—but kept his shovel raised defensively.

"What's your name, traveler?"

My name is! Oh no—I can't say it.

"My name is… My name is Ju—"

>> WINDOW: ERR

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD…

I REALLY CAN'T SPELL ANY NAME BUT THIS?!

He patted my shoulder:

"It's okay, villager. You need rest."

"Want to visit us? I'll give ya a village tour."

Shovel still strapped to his back.

Thank God he wasn't that mad…

I'd almost taken a shovel to the head!

I followed him through the village.

It wasn't large, but packed with life:

shops huddled close,

houses leaning like tired giants,

and ... a well! I'm so thirsty

They welcomed me... the first villager I met was right! I went quickly to the shop after drinking water, to get a map to show me where I am, or maybe where I should go to

Hello! The sound of a ring once I opened it—the owner was sleeping. No wonder, it's night anyways

Oohoh, welcome! He kept staring at me—a new face for him

A fat, hairy seller with a tired face—seems like someone who fights with a buyer over an old bread

A lot of old stuff—like no one's buying things from him. There's even an eaten fish over there.

What do you want, boy?' that man said to me. He rested his hand on his cheek, looking bored—or ready to fight?

"I just want a map, please."

"How much?" the man said.

"How much? I'm not here for a school trip!"

"One please, sir."

He gave me an old one filled with coffee.

I was about to complain—but at least I found a map.

"I started to read the map.

Mm, I see... WHAT? There are castles?!

Oh god— I started shaking

"YEAH, boy—there are castles! There are emperors! Empresses!

Are there dragons?! I was so excited!

The man laughed his fat belly out—

'You know what year we're on, d'ya?'"

"No, I don't... What year is it?"

"It's 800... No.. I think it's 850? Something like this."

The fat shopkeeper was counting with his fingers.

I didn't know whether to laugh at him or get even more serious about my situation.

"So I'm in this unnamed village...

The nearest castle... is way too far. I wanted to see some knights, by the way."

"Knights? Kid, are you dreaming or what?

Only nobles can see knights.

You can see them only... if it's your execution!"

He started laughing terribly at his own joke.

I didn't get it—but I laughed just to avoid hurting his sense of humor.

"Thanks, sir! I'll visit you sometime... soon."

But before leaving... between the many things I saw something shining

Was that it? Or maybe—?

The moment my eye met it, then notification window popped again:

BLIP!
