JONAH POV
~Manchester, United Kingdom~
"RING! RING! RING!, The sound jolting me from my nap. I groaned quietly. "Welcome to the Grizzly corner," I said, swallowing down my saliva. It was something I always felt weird saying it and no matter how many times I said it wouldnt change. Only God knows what goes on, in his head. The lady looked at me, her eyes scanning every part of me that was visible behind the counter. "She tilted her head a little then grinned. "I'll take a burger and a medium cola," she said. "That Will be £3.99, I replied" Writing down her order. "Have a seat mam, it will be delivered shortly," I said, dead pan.
I noticed the slightly shrug on her shoulders, her hearty experession faltering slightly, as she approached the unoccupied seat. "Was it something I said," I wondered. Immediately brushing off the tought from my head, i handed the paper to the sous-chef, Elijah. Me and Elijah, were quite the opposite, especially in appearance. He wasn't that tall, maybe not as me, slightly chubby, his pale white skin, like he had no blood within him. He had freckles on his face, which made him look a little bit nerdy, his bright blue eyes which made him appear like he was curious about everything, but over all he wasn't a bad guy just a creepy and an annoying guy.
I entered the kitchen, the heat quite high, there was always so much cooking being done everyday. Mr. Marvin rarely had a slow day, maybe sometimes but it was rare, he had built quite the reputation. A meduim Cola and a burger, I said looking at Elijah as I handed the paper. "All right," he said, Looking all excited. What a strange guy I thought to myself heading out and back to the counter. My phone buzzed, vibrating inside my pocket. My eyes gleamed, as I brought it out. It was message from the Chick, Sakura. She had asked for my picture, It was a simple task but it had left me stunned. My mind suddenly tensed, different tought flooded my mind. Was I good looking enough, not that I had much expectation fot her still, I suddenly became nervous.
My hand tracing my earrings, wondering if I should remove it, maybe look a little bit decent I tought. Sweats suddenly visible on my face. Suddenly I felt a warm hand resting gently on my shoulders. " Just do it," I jumped. Startled by the voice it was Elijah, "h....how did You finish so fast," My voice coming out rather low, trying to regain my composure. I slid my phone back into my pocket. I grabbed tray containing the food, balancing it on one hand like a veteran server. "Why do You always have to be so weird. I groaned, my brows furrowed, playing a completely different demeanor I usually carried. "I..I'm sorry" he stammered. I sighed, "I'm not that angry, maybe don't sneak up on me next time I said, giving a half-hearted smile.
After the creepy boy had scurried off somewhere, I took the tray and delivered it to the woman, "here's an order for a lovely woman," I said. A wide grin crept over her face. "It seems she liked my compliment," I said to myself. She placed £6 in my hand, as she smiled again. I looked at the money and shook my head, "mam it's £3.99 not £6 I said." Trying to gave her back the extra money. That solemn look crept over her face again. "I know, it's a tip," she said smiling. I was about to argue with her, when I saw my boss, Mr. Marvin, giving me the death stare. I gulped, then took the money and smiled. "Thank You mam, enjoy You're meal," I said, walking away. Just as I was about to stash the £6 inside the cash register, a firm grip held my hand.
"Keep the £2 he said," eyes firm. "I don't need old man," I said as I scoffed. "Then I'll be adding it to Your salary, he said, I sighed, "fine, fine," I said in a mock surrender. Keeping the £2. "That's good," he said, scratching the bald spot on his head. "I know You don't value these things, but isn't that where You came here," he said staring at me. I sighed again, he shoulders relaxing, "Well, the one You give me is enough," I said. "Enough You say?'" he laughed, he's hard voice cracking. I barely pay You anything boy," he said. "Well, You won't be getting another benevolent worker like me for a very long time. I said, laughing. "You're right, a stupid one," he replied, scratching his chin this time, "Snort nose brat," he hissed, walking away. "Whatever You say old man," I muttered. "You mean boss he turned back and grinned, his yellow teeth visible.
After several minutes, I was finally alone, no more disturbance. I brought out my phone, reading the text she sent again, I pondered for a while, then I took a pic, right then and there, I had a bad habit of not smiling in photos, and probably as people been telling me, I don't smile at all. I exmained the picture again, then I hit the send button, waiting for a reply, after several minutes of waiting for a reply, my phone lit up, one notification. Instagram. I check my message it was her, "You looked she said," the tension reduced within me, I let out a deep breathe. I rarely chatted with girls, or genuinely had interest. "I started texting, "Can I see yours," I muttered the words out, as i tapped sent. After waiting for few minutes she sent hers.
I froze, She had the kind of face You'd see in a magazine cover. Her long auburn hair, not the dyed or unapologetic kinds, an actual auburn coloured hair, It framed her pale skin perfectly, and the freckles scattered across her cheeks gave a soft but confident vibe. Her eyes were green like ember, way too sharp to ignore. After staring for a second time, I typed, "You look great," Even if i was enthralled it was best if I pretend not to be. She replied a little bit faster this time. "Thanks,"she said, "about to sleep gn," she added. "K," "Gn," I replied.
Then I remembered again the long time difference we had. And lucky for me, and my shift was finally over.
