Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Vine Wood and Dragon Heartstring

"No, no..." Mr. Ollivander muttered to himself, immersed in his own world, as he opened the second box. "Here, try this one. Beech wood and Phoenix feather, ten inches, powerful and very resilient."

Alfrina took the wand and waved it from top to bottom. The air filled with a thick mist, so dense it seemed to drip water.

"Beautiful, beautiful, just as I expected..." Gary noticed that Mr. Ollivander was a bit eccentric, often speaking in disjointed sentences.

Mr. Ollivander wrapped the wand, placed it in its box, and handed it to Alfrina. "Protect your wand well... you must maintain it regularly..."

Alfrina nodded repeatedly like a pecking chick, her attention completely on her wand, an expression of covetousness like a fox eyeing grapes on her face.

"Next, Mr. Shafiq." Mr. Ollivander's silver eyes turned.

"Right hand, sir." Gary extended his right arm. The tape measure, which had been coiled on the floor, sprang up and began to move over Gary's body.

After the tape measure finished its measurements, Mr. Ollivander collected it, carefully examined the data, and then walked to the shelves in the back to select a wand.

Alfrina excitedly looked at the wand box in her hand. Entering the magic world for the first time, even this wooden box seemed mysterious to her.

"Try this one first, Mr. Shafiq..." About half an hour later, Mr. Ollivander emerged with a box of wands. By then, many new students had arrived, and their parents crowded the small room.

Gary managed to squeeze out from between two plump children, feeling like ham sandwiched between two soft slices of bread.

"Step back, step back..." Mr. Ollivander finally noticed the other people in the shop and quickly waved for them to move outside.

"Vine wood and Dragon heartstring, twelve inches." Mr. Ollivander said slowly, his eyes fixed on Gary.

Gary felt a shiver run through him. As he took the wand, a strange sensation came from his heart, connecting him to the wand.

They were like conjoined twins, sharing breath and destiny. A familiar magic fluctuation spread, and all the magic in his body flowed from his arm into the wand. Gary's left hand quickly pushed Alfrina in front of Mr. Ollivander.

A scorching white light shot out from the tip of the dark wand, piercing directly through the ceiling of Mr. Ollivander's wand shop, bringing down a pile of rubble.

The dazzling white light did not stop, continuing to surge towards the sky.

All the magic within Gary was mobilized by this wand, and as a large amount of magic was lost, a feeling of weakness returned, and Gary felt a splitting headache.

He could hear Alfrina's gasp beside him and saw the people who had retreated outside the wand shop crowding back in.

He wanted to let go of the wand, but he couldn't.

The wand seemed to be stuck to his hand as if under a permanent sticking charm.

People surrounded him, and uncertain of Gary's condition, no one dared to act rashly. Mr. Ollivander looked up at the white light still streaking towards the end of the sky, his eyes flickering.

"Help me pull this damn wand out!" Gary was desperate. The wand had drained all the magic from his body, and now some unknown energy was flowing out. Gary even felt his skin begin to age.

He opened his mouth but couldn't make a sound, only watching helplessly as the emerald green energy flowed to his fingertips, causing his skin to age and flesh to wither rapidly wherever it passed.

Before this energy, there was Gary's last bit of magic, which was still mercilessly drained by the wand. Just as the energy was about to surge into the wand, the wand stopped drawing magic, and the dazzling white light from its tip suddenly disappeared.

Gary felt he could control his body again and quickly flung the wand away. This time, the wand didn't cling to him and dropped to the ground with a thud.

"Gary! Are you alright?" Alfrina rushed over to check his condition.

Gary saw the white light, which had shot into the clouds, slowly disappear from bottom to top as it lost its magical support.

People chattered around him. Alfrina helped him up. Gary felt his strength gradually returning, and the green unknown energy within him returned to his heart.

His body was unharmed, and the skin and flesh hidden beneath his robes regained their vitality.

Mr. Ollivander bent down, picked up the wand from the ground, and handed it back to Gary.

Gary was wary of this unassuming black wand and, after a moment's thought, did not reach out to take it.

"It's alright, child, it's just a normal wand choosing its master," Mr. Ollivander said gently.

Hearing this, the people who had gathered, hoping to see something unusual, dispersed.

Everyone knew that strange things often happened at Mr. Ollivander's wand shop, but it was rare for someone to cause such a commotion as Gary had.

However, Mr. Ollivander's explanation made it seem ordinary, and everyone went back to their own business, no longer crowding around Gary.

Hearing Mr. Ollivander say this, Gary thought that at worst, his magic would just be drained again. Gritting his teeth and steeling himself, he grabbed the wand.

A feeling of perfect understanding spread throughout Gary's body.

This wand was like another arm of his; Gary could even clearly know every texture of the wand.

The Dragon heartstring was tightly encased by the vine wood. At this moment, the Dragon heartstring seemed to be re-activated, given new life, throbbing wildly with Gary's heart, emanating infinite majesty.

Gary was sure this wand belonged to him.

"My recommendations are always correct," Mr. Ollivander chuckled, walking to the table and taking out a notebook. "This young lady's wand is eight Galleons, and Mr. Shafiq's is the same."

Gary took the gold coins from his pocket. "However, Mr. Shafiq, you owe me an additional ten Galleons. Renovating the roof also costs money."

Gary only had ten Galleons left, just enough to pay for the roof repairs. He felt a bit embarrassed.

"Hmm, I'll pay for his wand." Alfrina seemed to see through Gary and spoke up to help him.

Before Gary could decline, Alfrina explained to him, "I knew nothing about the magic world before, and you've helped me a lot. Originally, I wanted to buy you that bothersome Alchemy book you liked, but now I'm giving you a wand, so you can forget about that book."

She spoke somewhat quickly, her tone resolute, allowing no refusal.

After speaking, she looked at Gary nervously, afraid he would be angry.

Gary sighed inwardly. He regretted not bringing his mother's Gringotts vault key.

That unique Alchemy treatise was much more expensive than this wand. He felt a little lost.

"Alright, Mr. Ollivander, here's the money for the roof repair." Gary took out all the gold coins from his pocket and arranged them one by one on the table, his eyes constantly darting towards Mr. Ollivander, seemingly hoping he would change his mind.
