Chapter 51 - A Glimpse of a Fragile Dream

"Lucas? Are you in here?" I called softly, my heart racing at the lingering sensation of something dark and wrong.

A small sound came from beneath the massive oak desk in the corner—a sniffle that was unmistakably human. I exhaled in relief, approaching slowly.

"It's Seraphina from the pack gathering," I said, kneeling down. "I brought you something."

Two wide, tear-filled eyes peered up at me from the darkness under the desk. Lucas was curled into a tight ball, his small frame trembling.

"They don't believe me," he whispered, his voice breaking. "I told them about the shadow that comes at night, but they say I'm having nightmares."

My blood ran cold. I glanced back at the corner where I'd felt that unnatural presence, but whatever had been there was gone—for now.

"I believe you," I told him gently, extending my hand. "But right now, I'd feel better if you came out from under there."
