Chapter 2 - Chapter:2

She was stunned, unable to comprehend what was happening. She tentatively raised her hands again, and the remaining water in the bottle started to float once more. Her eyes widened in amazement, and she pulled her hands back again, causing the bottle to fall. She was left standing there, bewildered and trying to make sense of what she had just witnessed. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her neck, leaving her wondering what was happening to her body. She winced, her fingers instinctively reaching up to touch the neck. And then, in an instant, the pain vanished. She felt a surge of wonder mixed with a dash of fear as she realized that her body was healing at an incredible rate. Emboldened, she touched her injured back, and the agony that had plagued her for so long melted away. Her bruised face, once swollen and tender, began to heal before her eyes. She felt a sense of awe wash over her as she realized that she was changing, that her body was capable of things she never thought possible. Suddenly, the door swung open, Mary's mother rushed in, her face etched with worry and tears streaming down her cheeks. "Mary, oh my God, what happened to you?" she exclaimed, her voice trembling with emotion. She hastened to her daughter's side, enveloping her in a warm hug. But as Mary attempted to reciprocate, their skin made contact, and her mother felt a sudden jolt of electricity. She recoiled, shocked and perplexed. "What happened? Why did I feel that?" she asked, her eyes wide with bewilderment.

Mary's mother composed herself, her expression softening. "Maybe it was just a shock," she said, her voice gentle. "Let's not worry about that now. Tell me, how did this accident happen to you?"

Mary's voice was barely above a whisper as she recounted the events leading up to the accident. "I was trying to save an old woman, and the truck hit me instead." Her mother's face reflected a mix of relief and concern. "This is a good thing you did, but you should also take care of yourself. Look at your condition," she said, her voice laced with worry.

The doctor's arrival interrupted their conversation. After a thorough examination, he noticed the absence of scars on Mary's face. "Where did the scars go?" he asked, his tone laced with amazement. Mary explained the inexplicable healing process, leaving the doctor puzzled and questioning his diagnosis.

As the doctor declared Mary fit to be discharged, her mother breathed a sigh of relief. As they prepared to leave the hospital, Mary couldn't shake off the feeling that something extraordinary had happened to her. Back home, she sat on her bed, her mind reeling with questions. Suddenly, the cat that had jumped onto her bed earlier caught her attention. The cat's eyes locked onto hers, and in a voice that sent shivers down her spine, it said, "I hope you've figured out your powers by now."

Mary's heart skipped a beat as she stared at the cat in incredulity. "What powers?" she asked, her voice barely audible. The cat's response sent her world spinning. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. Your superpowers. I triggered them when I jumped onto your face while you were sleeping. It's a special gift, and you're one of the few people who have it."

As the cat's words hung in the air, Mary felt her mind racing with possibilities. What lay ahead, and what did this new reality mean for her life? The cat's enigmatic smile seemed to hold secrets, leaving Mary with more questions than answers.
