Chase was tempted to bite his tongue, but he forced himself to remain composed and not admit to his mother that he had made a mistake.
His phone beeped.
It was a message from Travis, "Got you," the message read.
He blinked, unsure if his friend had understood what he was asking for.
Travis came from a wealthy family, but when he attempted to drop out of medical school, his father had reduced his allowance.
"Son, what are we going to do?" Agness let out a cry.
"Mom, please get up first," her son replied.
"You are so stubborn," as her son assisted her in getting up, she continued, "I always tell you to ignore things in this mansion."
She persisted in her complaints, asking, "Where are we going to get $5,000 to buy the fish?"
Chase dialed his friend's number and led the way to his room, which was in the servant's quarter at the back of the mansion.
The Baltimore mansion had over twelve bedrooms, but Frederick could never allow the mother and son to sleep in any of the rooms.
He believed Agness was their maid, and even though she gave birth to a Baltimore bastard, she had no right to any luxuries.
Agness never voiced any complaints, especially that the servant quarter was very comfortable for her.
Yes it was not fair for her son, who had Baltimore blood in his veins
But it came free with free water and electricity, bills that would have taken half her salary if she were to rent a house in the city.
"I am talking to you, son."
"Mom, please be quiet," Chase replied as he answered his Phone.
"Travis, did you read the message?" He asked.
"Yes, I am getting your Bluefin fish," Travis replied.
"How? Do you have the money?"
Travis answered, "Lucky you, my mother loves fish, and she has logs of tuna in the fridge."
Chase let out a sigh of relief and closed his eyes.
"Wait a minute, is your mother okay with you giving out such an expensive fish?" Chase asked.
"Mom!" Travis called out to his mom, asking if he could take the fish to a braai party.
"What kind of braai is that?" His mother asked.
"A fish Braai party," Travis joked.
"Fine, do not steal my wine!" Chase could hear Travis's mother reply.
"You see, I will be there in thirty minutes," Travis replied and hung up.
"Who was that?" Agness asked.
Chase took a seat and answered, "Travis, and he is bringing the fish."
Agness finally sat down to catch her breath and said, "Oh my god, Travis is a lifesaver."
A minute ago, she was certain she was done.
Fredrick was serious about suing.
He had previously sued her for small matters, which led to him deducting a full year's salary from her pay.
She grabbed her son's hands, "Chase, please, next time you find Frederick or Xavier angry, ignore them," she requested.
"If you were not on your knees, I would have ignored the situation," Chase replied. "Mom, how can you kneel for someone my age?"
"Chase, you are aware of your nephew…" his mother attempted to clarify.
Chase quickly got up, pushing her hands off.
"That brown haired jughead is not my nephew!" Chase yelled.
With haste, his mother stood up and covered her son's mouth.
"Lower your tone!" Her gaze flickered as she spoke.
"Three weeks only, three weeks until your graduation. Get the best student title, and the university will offer you a job and an apartment," she whispered with a smile.
"Son, you have three weeks to contain your anger. The Three weeks will be nothing in comparison to the years of humiliation we have endured in this house," she added.
Chase lowered his head.
She was correct, but it had unsettled him to see her on her knees.
"I am sorry, Mom. You are right," Chase replied.
Agness smiled. "Have patience, I have prepared your favorite, so go wash up now," she said.
Chase gave her a smile and walked to his room.
In minutes, his phone rang.
It was Travis
He was already at the gate.
Chase quickly rushed to the gate and let his friend in.
"Here is your tuna," Travis said, passing him a large bag weighing at least five kilograms.
"Jesus Christ,Travis, did you have to bring the entire fish?" Chase asked.
"You did not specify the amount you required," grinned Travis. "What do you need it for? Are you going to poison the Baltimores?" He asked.
Chase raised his eyebrows.
"Why do you think I rushed here?" Travis asked.
Chase took a deep breath.
"There is this type of arsenic poison that is undetectable..." Travis tried to explain.
Chase picked up the sack, ignoring his friend.
"Wait in the car; I will be right back," Chase ordered and walked back into the mansion.
It was not yet 7 pm.
He went directly to the living room, where the entire Baltimore family was sitting down having dinner, and threw the five kilogram fish onto the table, splashing the dishes.
The whole family leaped from their chairs.
"What the heck!" Fredrick cursed
"You requested to bring the fish before 7 pm," Chase replied. "And last time I checked rich people like eating raw fish," he added and walked out of the room.
"Come here, you stupid bastard, come here!" Fredrick screamed, but Chase ignored him and rushed to his friend's car.
The two started the car engine and sped off laughing.
