Chapter 1 - Han Taewon

.... My name is Han Taewon. I was born into a modest family. Not just that, I had a talent... I had one. I was a national taekwondo and swordsmanship champion... At a young age, I was very fond of those fantasy movies and stories where many characters would be using swords. Later when I saw real life swordsmanship, I was not just fond, but obsessed with it. Later, I found out that I actually have great talent in swordsmanship and athletics. That was when I started learning taekwondo for hand-to-hand combat and well... My dream of being a swordsman.

My dad says that in the past there used to be no tournament on swordsmanship and it wasn't like the other sports... I mean, there were tournaments where swordsmanship was used, but they were not really played like actual sports. But just a few years after my birth, it somehow gained huge popularity. I don't know why, but it was good for me... Atleast, it was.

We can see someone watching some video in a shut-in room.

"This item is really useful in the game overall, and it also lets you find a hidden piece which can help you defeat none other than the final boss, Nih-"

Shut!!

As the person watching the video shuts his laptop off like he just got angry.

"Arghhh! Why do these guys like spoilers so much?! Sighh..... I just wanted a tutorial on an item I got not long ago, and here I got these guys giving spoilers on the game."

One might wonder where the guy who was supposed to be a national taekwondo and swordsmanship champion is. Well my story in itself sounds like a made up story, then there is the cliche of a prodigy having an accident and losing the thing they were good at.

Yes... The same just happened to me. Atleast, I didn't die at that time. I will keep it simple. It was an arson. Someone burned the whole building I was in, and after that I somehow did survive. But miraculously... At least a miracle for others, it was a curse for me. Somehow only my arms and a bit of my face got burned. But what if i survived, the nervous system of my arms were damaged. My nervous system being damaged obviously means that my arms will not work properly.

What do you think is most important in swordsmanship? Of course it's the arms which we hold the sword with. My grip on the sword became loose and I had to abandon it. Well that's it for my cliche backstory.

Then there comes another cliche. I became a shut-in and later got engrossed in games. And not long ago I found another game, it's name was Kingdom of Nihilion. It had good graphics, animation, fighting mechanics... Though they are not completely realistic, at least it's better than most other games. And most of all, it had a good story, characters, and no harem.

Yes, I'm a harem hater. Not that I always hate harem, sometimes there are those with good story and execution which is why I like some. There was that one where the protagonist had seven wives by the end, technically eight if you consider his self-proclaimed ex who still has a twisted love for him. I like it because the protagonist was not a cringe, but a good guy, the story and side characters were really good, the plot, as well as the execution.... Anyway, let's get off of the topic of harem.

I liked this new game a lot. I have a weird thing of not liking spoilers, which is why I miss many things in the game and also have trouble in upcoming stories. Well it's my problem, When I miss things, I can just search up what I missed and as for upcoming stories? I just have to have good adaptation and preparation, that's it. By now I have finished about seventy percent of the game and it has been really enjoyab-.

Ok guys, let's stop this guy from saying anything anymore and dive in the reason why we all came here.

"Ughhh... I should have made more preparations. This region is too hard.

Should I get some poison resistance potion? But those are expensive... Anyway, it doesn't matter. These poison mist drain health and stamina like hell. Why did status resistance potions have to be so expensive? It's also hard to get any resistance skills..."

"..... Aha! Right, this should work!"

What do you think will happen? Of course, since this region has poison filling every corner of it, then I just have to stay there for some time, then when my health drops below 20%, I just have to come back. By repeating this I might level up the poison resistance skill.

Up until now I have been dying and going back to save points, which is why it didn't level up... It will take a long time since it's still only level 7, and each level increases resistance by 1%, and worse is that it keeps on getting twice as hard every 10 levels.

"If only it wasn't for the easter egg in this place, I would have never bothered to go through all these."

One would think of what easter egg I'm talking about. There are various meta in the game you can choose from. When the game starts, one will be given a sword as their first weapon. But it being the usual fantasy Academy game, when one goes to the academy, they will have to choose their occupation and weapon.

I, of course, picked none other than a sword as my main weapon. A Hwando to be exact. But I didn't know what was going on in my head, so I picked martial artist as my occupation. Well, it doesn't matter. I was a taekwondo and swordsmanship champion, so this kind of resembles who I was, no?

And this easter egg allows you to get something called dual-mind. They say that it causes a lot of troubles early on, but once you get used to it you can pick one thing for your dual-mind to do. Suppose, I will focus on improving my swordsmanship, while my dual-mind will focus on improving my martial arts even when I'm not doing anything. So it is technically one of the best skills to have.

But everything has cons. It is that sometimes the dual-mind will not like something you do, which is why it might fight over your body, which obviously causes some troubles, but it is rare to happen anyway.

"If I just get this easter egg, I will be able to fully focus on my swordsmanship."

After a long off-screen grind.

"I.... Finally.. Did it. After a complete week of grinding poison resistance, it is finally level 31! And now if I combine it with a poison resistance potion, it will give me 51% resistance to poison."

Again, a long grind because of bad direction.

"I finally found it! I found it! After 5 hours I found it!"

"Hey you bastard! Can you please not make a fuss in the middle of the night?!"

Ah... It's my next-door neighbour.

"Yes! Yes! I will not!"

He just jumps in his bed and lays down.

Everything just feels... Stiff... Only if the world was like the one in the game... Everyone would have had full support in swordsmanship and martial arts if I wanted to do something great. Even when I got burned, they could just use healing magic to heal my wounds before my nerve damage became permanent.

Though, thinking about it... I really don't want to be a noble, and a girl at that, since they have a whole lot of restrictions at what they can do if they are not talented at anything but magic and its branches. Even in the game, barely any female characters who use martial arts or swordsmanship are noble. It is rare... Too rare...

"I think I should stop thinking about these... I have to wake up early in the morning and edit everything I recorded... Good night... Han Taewon..."
