Fraser could feel his arcane reserves expanding, joy filled his heart. He now could somewhat depend on his strength to fight off sorcerers. However, he also needed techniques to fight effectively.
Releasing raw arcane like he has been until now is extremely inefficient, costing high amounts of arcane while serving little purpose with minimal offensive damage. Not to mention that releasing raw arcane only serves purpose in battle, it doesn't help in any other field of expertise. Techniques are created and learnt by the user, where instead of blasting pure arcane, the user passes the arcane into the Void like a conduit, allowing for more refined arcane, costing less arcane, but serving greater purpose.
Creating techniques require excessive contact with the Void, an imaginary mind, and rich battle experience. A sorcerer could also receive great inspiration from outside effects, for example, another sorcerer's techniques, or natural phenomena.
Fraser had none of these aspects, especially not battle experience, although he was proficient in hand to hand combat and using weapons since being trained at a young age, these experiences weren't life threatening, and were merely mortal level training methods. However, he had a high level of contact with the Void, the main area he was talented in was his connection. The Void always resonated with him deeply compared to others. Fraser was also only tier two, improvising techniques on the spot was possible for tier one to five level techniques. Techniques beyond that scope required far more contributing factors.
During the last couple days, Fraser also managed to gather precious intel. Every night, before sundown, Ingram would alert all the slaves and merchants to set up barriers against the carriage fences, to protect themselves from potential beast threats. The carriages were extremely large, much bigger than a couple of houses lined up side by side. Ingram used a method to amplify the volume of his shouts, implying that he had a sound based arcane. One of the sorcerers who guarded the slave cages regularly visited, lighting torches with his bare hands, evidence of a fire arcane. The guards mentioned their destination being a slave camp, where they would traffick Fraser and the rest, this wasn't good news to Fraser, and it solidified his resolve to escape. Fraser plotted accordingly to this information.
Old Lord Gareth had a mortal daughter, named Leslie, but the other sorcerers didn't dare call her by her name despite her cheerful and bubbly nature. They instead referred to her as mistress, as to avoid the wrath of Gareth. Leslie was unable to awaken a meridian, this was common anyways, only about a third of humans are able to awaken a meridian, the rest live as regular powerless "mortals".
Leslie would also visit the slave cages from time to time, begging Gareth to release them; her righteous attitude gained the respect of the slaves and sorcerers in the carriage line. They also admired her beauty, but didn't dare express it in the presence of Gareth. Fraser in specific had caught her gaze among the slaves, whenever she looked over, Fraser would admit a pitiful act. This was the first step of his scheme.
Even Fraser was captivated by her dazzling looks, but Fraser wasn't one to allow these worldly affairs to obstruct his grand ambitions and goals.
Fraser also considered his current needs. He wasn't familiar with the surroundings outside the Whight cavern, he desperately required a map. Of course, a merchant carriage must have a map if they are to travel the continent, so Fraser aimed to get close to Leslie, in order to obtain this map. After all, the guards would never listen to this ridiculous request.
Considering his current plan, Fraser began deducing arcane techniques. Days and nights passed, Fraser sitting quietly in his cell, simply thinking. His connection with the Void tightening once again, ideas appearing in his head. On the seventh day of silently contemplating. He reached an answer, creating a tier two technique.
"This technique won't be as helpful in the future, but it is necessary to escape this damned slave carriage."
"I'll call it, Suppress Sou-..." Fraser… had fallen asleep? This was only natural. Contact with a vast being like the Void is extremely taxing on the sorcerer's mental state, without a technique specialized in recovering mental energy, sleep is one of the only ways to recuperate.
