In the Duchy's war plan against Lapland, the 7th Army Group bore the responsibility of the main assault. It was allocated the most troops and given the maximum firepower reinforcement, all to ensure it could break through the thinner eastern defenses of the Karelian Isthmus, cooperate with friendly forces in encircling and expelling the Lapland army from its fortified areas, and then turn toward Viipuri.
However, despite the formidable strength of the 7th Army Group, the roads available to it were relatively limited. Among all the units suffering from traffic jams and operational delays, the 7th Army Group was in the most dire situation. The heavy forest cover, sparse and poorly equipped roads, and the Lapland forces' destruction of infrastructure during their retreat caused several infantry divisions and reinforced artillery regiments to be stuck on the roads. This not only slowed the pace of the 7th Army Group but also severely constrained logistical support for the campaign.
