Sergeant Antonov swung his fists, spitting out every curse and foul word he knew. Next to him, the military doctor shook his head, pulling up the white sheet to completely cover Lieutenant Yakov's half remaining face. To the right of the lieutenant, lay a dozen bodies covered in white sheets, each body's "dog tag" already broken, half hanging on the dead's neck, half clenched in the sergeant's fist. The surrounding soldiers drooped their heads, clutching their caps in their hands. Some soldiers knelt, praying softly that the souls of their comrades might return safely.
