In the early morning, Chris rode on Tyrantrum's back as they raced wildly across the pasture.
It turned out that the usual morning surf training had been replaced by riding training! Every morning, Chris would ride Tyrantrum for a large lap around the endless prairie before returning home.
This could be considered a necessary form of exercise. The more Pokémon you could Mega Evolve, the more important this kind of training became if you wanted them to display their full combat effectiveness!
Flying across the steppes on a Tyrantrum was exhilarating. At first, hundreds of Growlithe followed behind them, but in less than two minutes, they were left in the dust by Tyrantrum. Now, they couldn't even see their "tail lights."
Soaring in the sky not far away, the red Gyarados hovered majestically. It truly seemed to view itself as the dragon king who controlled the rain. If Chris hadn't prevented it from using the power of the Rain Dance TM, the pasture would probably have rainfall every day.
Flying all the way to "Gem Spring" in the center of the ranch—the clear spring that Chris first spotted from above, as clear as sapphire—he paused to admire its beauty.
At Gem Spring, Greninja was resting, lying on the lake surface with eyes closed, feeling the surrounding aura waves and enjoying the momentary tranquility.
"Greninja, it's time to go!" Chris took out the Poké Ball and recalled Greninja.
There used to be numerous Water-type Pokémon living in Gem Spring, but Master Keaton had taken all the Water-type Pokémon he'd bred here when he moved away. Currently, only Magikarp and Poliwag remained.
After Chris finished his preparations, he planned to introduce Samurott and Feebas to the water system here.
When it came to Water-type Pokémon, Samurott was top-tier, but except for Gyarados and Milotic, the others weren't really worth training.
Having recalled Greninja, Chris began his journey back.
Most Pokémon were active near home, except for Greninja who needed to visit this Gem Spring. This made Chris consider whether to build an artificial lake near his home for Greninja to inhabit.
Riding Tyrantrum on the return journey, Chris spotted a group of orange-red flames in the distance, surrounded by small flickering embers, all moving together.
Having lost sight of Chris and Tyrantrum, Shiny Growlithe had apparently become the leader of hundreds of Growlithe. Wherever it ran, the others would chase after it.
This was beneficial for the Growlithe—running was their most primal instinct, and enough running time would exercise their bodies, making them stronger. Chris planned to acquire some Ponyta from the game to run alongside the Growlithe.
When they saw Chris and Tyrantrum approaching, the pack of Growlithe, led by the Shiny, began chasing them again.
As a result, a wave of flames "spread" across the green grassland once more.
It wasn't until Chris reached the front door and dismounted from Tyrantrum's back that the Growlithe gave up the chase and swarmed around Chris.
Fortunately, Gardevoir happened to be passing by and gently levitated them back to the ground with her psychic powers.
Only the Shiny Growlithe remained in Chris's arms.
"What have you been eating lately? How did you grow so fast!" Chris held Flash with slight difficulty, remembering that when he first received it, it weighed at most twenty pounds, but now it was at least forty pounds!
How many days had it been? Its weight had doubled!
Chris suspected he was raising Spoink instead of Growlithe.
"Woof!" Growlithe wasn't happy about the comment and immediately opened its mouth, extending its red tongue and pressing it against Chris's face.
"Lick!"
Numbness spread across Chris's face.
It was the Lick attack, the same move Haunter used.
But... this sensation was completely different—there was a slight burning sensation mixed with the tingling numbness.
"Did you learn that from Haunter?" Chris felt it necessary to warn the young Pokémon at home to stay away from Haunter's influence!
As if on cue, Haunter floated by with an ice cream in hand. Hearing Chris blame it, Haunter tilted its head in confusion. "Haunt?! (What are you talking about!)"
"Don't say anything, just return to your Poké Ball. We have a flight to catch at noon today," Chris said, taking out the Poké Ball and recalling Haunter.
The Breeding House Conference from the beginning of the month had ended. Chris needed to return to Dragon University before mid-month to complete the paperwork for his early graduation, which was why he was recalling his Pokémon.
"Haunter~(My ice cream!)"
Haunter's wail lingered in the air, along with the abandoned ice cream.
Before it hit the ground, the treat was snatched up by a passing Fraxure.
Chris found it strange that a pure Dragon-type like Fraxure enjoyed ice cream so much. Whether it was sensitive to heat or simply enjoyed the cool sensation, the refrigerator at home was constantly emptied by Haunter, Fraxure, and Wobbuffet...
"You come back too!" Chris recalled Fraxure to its Poké Ball, then called back Aerodactyl, who was perched like a gargoyle at the doorway.
"I feel like I'm doing your gargoyle impression a disservice by not building an ancient castle," Chris joked. He actually wanted to build something like Senior Roy's Dragonite Villa.
But building such a villa required more than just land—it needed extensive internal facilities. All told, ₽10 billion would be just the starting point.
Chris currently had some money, around ₽400 million, but that wasn't close to enough for a villa. With ₽40 million, you might get a main building of about fifteen hundred square meters, which was already spent.
Chris was about to purchase the Meadowbrook Ranch, the property next to his hometown. Denver was helping him with the paperwork, and the purchase would be finalized soon.
As for the villa... he would wait two months before selecting a site to begin construction.
"Call everyone back!" Chris instructed Gardevoir. He took out the Bone Club that Flash the Growlithe had brought from his handheld device and threw it into the distance.
Immediately, hundreds of Growlithe chased after the Bone Club.
Seeing this, Flash in Chris's arms also wanted to join the chase, but just as it leaped out, Chris recalled it mid-air with a red-and-white Poké Ball.
"You should behave better at Level 15. I'm taking you back to my hometown for a visit!"
Chris patted the Poké Ball, feeling Growlithe settle down obediently inside.
Nearby, Gardevoir glowed with purple light as her psychic power spread throughout the area, calling for the rest of Chris's main Pokémon to return.
By the time all the Pokémon had returned to their respective Poké Balls, it was already lunchtime.
After feeding the Pokémon a quick meal, the car arrived to pick up Chris and take him to the city center.
"You'll be in charge of feeding the Growlithe," Chris instructed Wanda. "Remember to let them out at regular times every day, and give them some Pokéblocks. In two days, 900 more Growlithe will arrive. Be ready to welcome them."
With those final words, Chris got into the car and drove toward Green Valley City, the capital of Green Valley.
