As soon as Connor reminded me of all the things that had gone wrong between us it felt like I had a tonne of bricks on my chest. Most of them I had even forgotten because I was living off the high of being the star rugby player. I didn't see the destruction I caused around me.
It wasn't my goal to be a jerk. I didn't even recognize some of my actions to have such negative consequences. When his fathers jersey number was given to me I was just elated that I had a legends number that I failed to recognize that they had taken it away from Connor.
When they wanted me to be the face of the national team I didn't realize I was pushing aside the current captains. Nor did Dad's generous contribution mean anything.
I just thought he was helping and I believed in his defense, he was. Dad always helped anything any one of us got into. It was just his nature but now from an outsider's point of view it did look like his money spoke louder for me than my skill set.
