"Stop being a dumbass," my wolf growled in the back of my mind. [Just accept her for who she is already. You and I both know we can't do without her.]
I clenched my jaw, staring at the ceiling like it might give me answers I had been running from for seven damn years.
"She betrayed us," I muttered under my breath, voice hoarse from the fever. "She was supposed to marry him…"
[Xander,] my wolf snarled. [The bastard who wanted to take what's ours.]
My stomach churned. The memory hit hard like a fist to the ribs. The night we were searching for Olivia. The desperation in Emma's voice. The way she looked at Xander… and decided to make him her soulmate.
That single word broke something in me. Something I thought had healed.
Even after I rejected her, even after I told myself I had moved on, that I hated her, I still wanted her. Still needed her.
