Liam wheeled Ava to the car, then bent down to lift her.
But before he could, Ava stood up from the wheelchair and stepped into the car herself with surprising steadiness. She tugged off her hat and scarf—sweat dampened her brow. It was way too hot for all that.
When Liam got in beside her, she said calmly, "Let's just head straight to the County Clerk's office. No need to reschedule later—it's a hassle."
"You just got discharged today," he said nonchalantly. "Let's wait a bit."
Ava steeled herself. "Whether it's today or tomorrow, we're still getting divorced. Might as well get it over with."
"Grandpa and Grandma will be heartbroken."
"They've lived nearly a century. You think they haven't seen worse? They'll understand."
Liam paused. "My mom and Grace will be upset too."
"Your mom is getting divorced herself. She'll get it. And Grace and I will still be friends—nothing's changing there."
Liam lowered his gaze to her. "I'll be upset."
