Silas nodded coldly once again, indicating that he was very satisfied with the conditions and proposal made by the other party.
The Scyther also felt that its previous nod had indeed meant agreement this human actually understood it quite well.
Besides, the Fighting-type Pokémon called Combusken standing next to him was indeed very strong and worth teaching.
Silas was overjoyed. What was supposed to be just another routine outing to complete a task and earn some money for training turned into an unexpected encounter with such a reasonable and battle-experienced veteran.
The guidance on battle techniques was actually a small bonus.
The key was that this Scyther probably knew Swords Dance and Hone Claws, maybe even Focus Energy.
His main goal was to have Combusken master Swords Dance and Hone Claws, and become proficient in all three of these moves.
Just imagine an already Speed Boost-hidden ability Combusken, paired with Focus Energy, Hone Claws, and Swords Dance what an insane move combination that would be.
Silas couldn't help but get a little excited, considering turning his future Blaziken into a full-blown assassin-type battler.
A real assassin should be able to take on every enemy head-on without needing to dance around or stall what's the point of all that when you can just crush them directly?
And the cost of this training? Just a few Pokéblocks. Not exactly cheap, but the return on investment? Absolutely ridiculous.
Scyther and Combusken quickly finished their lunch.
"Scha-tah-rai~"
Scyther immediately flew to a clearing not far away and gestured for Combusken to follow and stand opposite it.
With a nod of confirmation from Silas, Combusken headed to the position indicated.
It's just battle guidance, after all Scyther wasn't exaggerating. When it came to this kind of thing, it was an expert. Back in its own swarm, it used to train the younger ones all the time.
A trace of nostalgia and sadness flashed in its eyes as it signaled Combusken to control its strength and begin sparring.
"Scha-tah-rai~"
"Cha!"
"Ta-rai~"
"Cha-mo!"
Watching the two Pokémon train so diligently nearby, Silas could only marvel at his own good luck.
After all, not every wild Pokémon was this reasonable and responsible especially not a prideful one like Scyther.
For many Pokémon, being defeated and then asked to train the victor was simply unacceptable. Most wouldn't lash out again, but they'd at least leave in a huff.
"Dangoro!"
"Pidge..!"
At that moment, both Roggenrola and Pidgeot sounded the alarm at nearly the same time enemies were approaching.
Silas narrowed his eyes and gestured toward Scyther and Combusken, signaling them to ignore the disturbance and continue their training.
Combusken obediently followed its trainer's command. Scyther hesitated a little, but after glancing at Pidgeot, it realized it was probably overthinking.
It had lived in this area for quite a while and was familiar with most of the local Pokémon species. That Pidgeot was practically unmatched in the vicinity.
Silas ordered Pidgeot to use Whirlwind. The enemies hiding among the tree trunks and grass were soon revealed.
It was four Mankey.
Once they realized they were exposed in the open clearing, the Mankey initially hesitant—began breathing heavily.
"Use Air Slash!"
Silas immediately commanded Pidgeot to strike.
This breathing shift was a clear sign that the Mankey were about to go into a rage. Once enraged, Mankey could be incredibly annoying recklessly charging forward regardless of the strength difference.
After a brief charge-up, Pidgeot flapped its wings twice in rapid succession, unleashing four sharp blades of air that sliced toward the Mankey at high speed.
Silas nodded in satisfaction. Pidgeot's training over the past few days had clearly paid off the charge time for Air Slash had been significantly reduced.
While it probably couldn't be cut down to instantaneous use, the shorter the casting time, the better the chance of turning the tide in a battle.
The Mankey didn't even have time to react before being hit.
The powerful impact lifted their relatively small bodies into the air. Two of them slammed into nearby trees, letting out painful cries.
Even before Silas gave a follow-up command, Pidgeot was already streaking through the air like a blur toward the Mankey.
"Steel Wing."
Almost perfectly synchronized with the command, Pidgeot's wings began to gleam with a metallic sheen.
One by one, it slashed past the four Mankey. The ones that had just managed to get back on their feet were knocked down again.
"Huh?" Silas muttered in surprise.
One of them was actually still conscious, propping itself up with both arms, trying to rise again.
"Whirlwind."
A gentle breeze swept over the Mankey's body. Already battered and exhausted, it finally collapsed completely, joining its companions in the bushes.
Silas didn't bother with the Mankey any further. Once they woke up, they would naturally run away. Wild Pokémon were intelligent in their own way. After being defeated, they often understood the difference in strength and wouldn't continue to attack.
"Dangoro!"
Roggenrola called out. It signaled that it wanted to fight as well.
Silas gently patted the prominent spike on its head. "Don't worry. Once you evolve, you'll be able to join battles too."
He could feel Roggenrola's eagerness. Up to this point, it had only rarely participated in battles directly most of the time, it assisted from the sidelines. It was no wonder the little guy was so eager.
His gaze shifted to Scyther and Combusken, training nearby.
High potential didn't just represent a Pokémon's energy capacity it also signified their ability to learn. Generally speaking, Pokémon with higher potential could master skills more quickly than those with lower potential.
Of course, this wasn't always fixed. A Pokémon with Elite-level potential might actually grasp certain moves faster than even Champion-tier Pokémon.
"Combusken!"
Just as he was thinking that, Combusken spun in place. Silas sensed its aura suddenly spike.
Wait—Swords Dance?!
His eyes widened in shock. Though the increase was slight, it definitely seemed like it.
Even though he had full confidence in Combusken, he didn't expect it to learn this move so quickly on the same afternoon, no less! The move had been ranked four out of five stars in difficulty by professors!
And Scyther wasn't even supposed to be teaching it yet.
Scyther blinked in surprise. This Combusken was learning fast. It had only casually mentioned the move during a sparring explanation and the chick had already picked it up?
"Combusken!"
"Is this right, Master?" Combusken asked respectfully.
"Sha-te-rai~"
Yes, that's right. It's a relatively simple move. Among the Pokémon I've seen try to learn it, your speed of comprehension is above average.
Scyther held back its surprise, answering in a calm, modest tone while slightly praising Combusken.
"Combusken!"
Combusken was filled with admiration. As expected of a master so knowledgeable and experienced!
Suddenly, Roggenrola launched a Rock Slide toward a nearby bush, a small rock pelting the foliage.
Huh?
Silas, who had just been giving Pidgeot instructions, turned in confusion. Pidgeot hadn't given any warning why had Roggenrola suddenly attacked the bush?
