At present, Combusken's level had already reached 36.
Silas believed that its evolution level should be similar to that of Pidgeot.
The reason it hadn't evolved yet was likely the same as back then missing a battle that met all the necessary conditions.
Even now, he wasn't exactly sure what conditions had been fulfilled for Pidgeotto to suddenly evolve into Pidgeot.
It was probably an intense and exhilarating battle. After all, during these past forty days, Combusken had hardly participated in any truly meaningful battles.
In that small town near Cape White, even though there were many Pokémon and Trainers with fairly decent strength, and the Pokémon Center's battle facility was spacious enough, there still weren't many people actually engaging in battles.
After a full day of exhausting training, what normal person or normal Pokémon would still have the energy or motivation to battle? Physically and mentally, it just wasn't realistic.
As for the missions they completed, Silas usually had all three of his Pokémon work together. It wasn't an official battle or a capture encounter, so why bother insisting on one-on-one duels?
Evolution was a mysterious thing. Aside from artificial methods like trade evolution, naturally evolving Pokémon often didn't follow any clear pattern.
So he really had no idea what exactly would trigger Combusken's evolution.
But today, they were set to leave. If they didn't, it might eat into the time needed to challenge the Gym later, and Silas wanted to leave a buffer for emergencies.
That was what he thought anyway. Worst case, he'd just take it slow. He didn't believe that evolution could possibly hold back a Combusken with Champion potential.
...Right?
He stared blankly as Combusken suddenly emitted a white glow.
Wait, are you seriously about to evolve just from standing there meditating? Or is this some newly learned move?
The white light gradually enveloped Combusken's entire body, making it hard for Silas to see clearly from up close.
Only then did he snap out of it. Good grief Combusken really was evolving into Blaziken right now.
Could it have been triggered by his own thoughts? Was it really that mystical? That was kind of embarrassing.
As time passed, the white light faded, and a cool-looking Blaziken appeared before Silas.
With white feathers, a V-shaped crest, sharp claws wrapped in bandages, and powerful, muscular legs, its blue eyes contrasted with its body's color scheme, highlighting its extraordinary presence.
Flames flickered now and then from its arms and legs.
That was due to its inability to control the immense energy within its body after evolving.
"Blazaaa!"
Blaziken opened its previously shut eyes, raised its claws and legs, and let out an excited cry as it felt the power of its new muscles and energy surging through its body.
Silas quickly had it regain control over its body, which was still a bit unbalanced from the evolution, and pulled up Blaziken's data.
At first glance, its size: 2.25 meters tall and weighing 65 kilograms. Compared to the average height of 1.9 meters and weight of 52 kilograms for its species, these stats looked only average on paper.
In fact, even Pidgeot was now 1.95 meters tall and weighed 50 kilograms almost 25% above the average of its kind. On paper, its stats looked even better.
But the two were different types and couldn't be compared directly.
As a raptor-type bird Pokémon, bigger and stronger was naturally better for Pidgeot.
Whereas Blaziken, being a Fire/Fighting-type Pokémon, required a perfectly balanced physique.
Excessive height or weight let alone both would negatively affect its combat performance. If it couldn't handle its own body, how could it fight effectively?
According to Zero's analysis, Blaziken's current physique was just about perfect for its own use.
Perhaps when it eventually broke through to the Elite Four level—or something even stronger its size might increase slightly, but the changes wouldn't be major.
Overall, everything aligned well with Silas's expectations. Very reasonable.
Then there was the level—it had jumped from 36 to 39.
Finally, all the resources he poured into feeding and training it weren't in vain.
At this rate, if Pidgeot didn't step up its game, it might soon get overtaken by its younger teammate.
As for moves, Combusken—now Blaziken was hands down the most versatile Pokémon in his team.
It had a wide range of offensive, status, and type-covering moves, offering numerous strategies in battle.
Next came the part Silas cared about the most Blaziken's future training plan.
Though he had already mapped out a rough plan himself beforehand, he wasn't entirely confident. What if he'd made a mistake?
He needed to confirm everything with Zero to be sure.
After reading through the plan carefully, Silas rolled his eyes with a look that suggested he had already expected this outcome.
Come on, now this is just ridiculous.
According to the current calculations, the monthly training expense for Blaziken had shot up to a whopping 12 million. That averaged out to about 400,000 a day almost a 50% increase from before.
To put that in perspective, a standard B-rank mission only brought in two to three hundred thousand at most. Silas would need to complete two B-rank missions a day just to break even.
He couldn't help but click his tongue Blaziken was turning into a gold-devouring beast.
Add in the ongoing special training phase for Boldore and the high-level training costs for Pidgeot, and the numbers quickly piled up. A rough estimate put the total daily training expenditure at around 900,000.
No wonder so many trainers hit a bottleneck after raising three Pokémon to the Advance level. Silas was now approaching that exact same phase.
Without solid financial backing, raising Pokémon to this degree was nearly impossible especially considering Silas had the advantage of Nurse Joy's sponsorship, which helped boost his earning efficiency.
Factoring in his training schedule, the most he could take on was about three B-rank missions every two days. That brought in a modest income of around 450,000 per day at best.
With occasional bonus earnings along the way, he could just barely keep up with the burn rate.
For an average civilian trainer, this kind of maintenance was simply unattainable. Even among trainers of the same rank, those who managed to reach this level were already the best of the best.
Sure, their Pokémon likely didn't have as high-quality requirements as Silas's three top-tier partners.
But that only meant their efforts to reach the same results would cost more in the long run and with weaker Pokémon, their ability to earn was slower too.
In the end, time was their only real option to bridge the gap.
Silas's thoughts drifted as he considered all this.
"Blazike~"
Blaziken's voice pulled him back to reality. It had already retracted all its flames by now.
"You did great." Silas smiled and praised his partner.
Out of habit, he reached out to pat its head like he used to when it was still a Combusken.
But staring at Blaziken's now towering physique, Silas realized something he couldn't quite reach anymore. What, was he supposed to jump for it?
Blaziken noticed its trainer's awkward pause and moved to help bending one knee and lowering its body so its head reached Silas's hand.
"You've really grown up, haven't you?" Silas said with a tinge of emotion as he gently stroked the white feathers on its head.
"Blaziken~" Blaziken grinned and let out a pleased cry.
"Pidgeot!~" "Boldore!"
Pidgeot and Boldore cheered alongside them to celebrate Blaziken's progress.
Silas then turned his gaze to Scyther, who had been leaning quietly against a tree nearby.
