Chapter 83 - Riot

TA!...

The incessant, annoying knocking from the front door couldn't drown out the thunderous clashes echoing within the room.

Each time the hard bat met the greatsword, the shockwave shattered the glass picture frames on the wall. And with one such impact, the girl was knocked back several steps.

Huff... huff...

She let out a soft breath, watching the young man walk towards her step by step. He seemed to have transformed into an emotionless combat machine, his eyes only seeing swing, block, swing again... His goal, Crazy Mita understood, was to defeat her.

"I..." The girl looked at her own hands. Right now, she didn't have much fighting spirit left. Even the strength capable of tearing dolls apart felt fragile. So, what was her purpose in staying here? She didn't understand either.

Tear apart that doll? Seemed unnecessary now. Alain had already been to the Core.

Keep questioning him? Meaningless. Her inner voice also told her she didn't want to do that.

Then why...?

"Aren't you even going to ask why I held back??" The question slipped out before she could stop herself, directed at the approaching Alain. Even she was surprised.

"Don't want to ask, don't want to listen, don't want to know." He responded coolly with three negatives, quickening his pace towards her.

Crazy Mita could only raise her baseball bat, blocking attack after attack.

Clang, clang!

In his hands, the greatsword became more like a heavy club, its relentless force overwhelming Crazy Mita, leaving her unable to cope. The sofa was torn apart in their exchange, the television long broken, and the photos on the wall were covered in countless sword marks.

Then Alain leaped high again, like a guillotine, raising the hammer-like sword. His greatsword sliced through the ceiling fan light, the blade extinguishing the light as it hammered down onto Crazy Mita's bat.

BANG—

A long screech like a speeding car sent her flying back to the front door, her back slamming hard against the solid surface. Although it didn't hurt, there was an inexplicable... annoyance.

So annoying. Her mood was annoying, the trash knocking outside was annoying, even the light filtering in from the window was annoying. But what annoyed Crazy Mita most was herself.

In contrast, Alain silently signaled the hat girl in the bedroom, and Millie responded with a thumbs-up. The situation was proceeding smoothly. For some reason, the 'bad girl's' fierce attacks had weakened considerably compared to before.

Previously, his stamina was depleted, and the 'bad girl' was serious... multiple factors combined made that fight incredibly frustrating. Plus, she stubbornly refused to listen to him, resulting in both physical and mental exhaustion at the time.

Looking now, the game controller provided infinite stamina, and the force feedback from each sword swing felt just right. He could clearly see Crazy Mita struggling to block. Simply put, he was having a satisfying fight. As everyone knows, when a man is truly satisfied, he's often expressionless, silently enjoying the moment. He knew his own face hadn't shown much emotion just now, so it must have been truly satisfying.

But after fighting for so long, Alain still couldn't understand why Crazy Mita, clearly struggling, hadn't retreated yet. Since she knew he had been to the Core, staying here to destroy the transporter or kill Millie seemed pointless, right? As for further questioning... she hadn't really said anything earlier? Just asked a confusing question.

Or perhaps, force wasn't the right approach; maybe intimacy was the key? She really responds to carrots, not sticks, he thought.

Alain observed the 'bad girl' leaning against the front door. The door behind her seemed to sense the Mita character's proximity, the knocking growing louder and more intense. As for her expression... she looked grim, yet occasionally glanced at him pleadingly, then shot irritated looks behind her, appearing overly complex.

Never mind... better stick to the original plan for now. Alain thought, slowly moving towards her. The battle was going smoothly; she'd likely be repelled soon. Trying intimacy might just complicate things—

Splurch!

Faster than Alain's plan was the door behind Crazy Mita. Both looked simultaneously as a sharp, black leg made of corrupted code, like a spear, pierced through the door. Immediately following, as if encouraged, more legs stirred restlessly outside, breaking through the door's protection one after another.

"This is... they broke through?" Alain had anticipated this; the head spiders would break down the door sooner or later. Who knew it would be now?

Splurchsplurchsplurchsplurch!

The door was already overwhelmed, seemingly needing only one final push or pull to be destroyed on the spot.

And this... wasn't necessarily a bad opportunity, Alain thought. He looked forward, but his feet gradually shifted backward as he silently signaled Millie.

The hat girl on the bed understood his intention. Carrying Misa, she got off the bed, moving as quietly as possible towards the bathroom. Alain's portal was located there. If those spiders could just delay Crazy Mita's steps, the path home could be free from her danger.

Splat—!

The last straw fell; the door completely shattered. Alain looked out to see over a dozen head spiders, murmuring hateful static, watching predatorily. As expected, they all targeted Crazy Mita, swarming towards her like a tidal wave.

This was also Alain's "starting gun." He turned away, listening to the continuous sounds of bursting fruit behind him, rushing towards the bedroom without stopping. He wasn't worried about Crazy Mita being killed or seriously injured by the spiders. Because, no matter how much they argued, no matter how angry he was, his view wouldn't change: that was Alain's 'bad girl', the overwhelmingly strong Crazy Mita. He firmly believed that even against the Perfect Worm from before, if she got serious with her chainsaw, she could kill it on the spot in just a few exchanges. Not relying on the Altered Form's environmental kill, but through sheer, overwhelming strength.

As these thoughts raced, his steps carried him past the empty doorframe and into the bedroom. He didn't realize that in just a few short seconds, the sound of bursting fruit behind him had stopped.

"Alain! Wait, don't go!"

"?!" So fast?

He turned his head to see Crazy Mita standing amidst the glitching remains of head spiders rapidly dissolving into code. Her baseball bat had been destroyed in moments, her fists stained with the black static of the head spiders. Like this, she was reaching out towards him, utterly bewildered.

Damn it... can't leave again. Alain's face darkened. In his peripheral vision, he saw a spider hidden in the girl's blind spot, rapidly lunging towards Crazy Mita. It was behind her, a complete visual dead zone.

Alain realized his chance for a safe return home had arrived.

Thus, without hesitation, he dropped his greatsword and ran towards Crazy Mita.
