In just a few exchanges, she crushed the annoying trash. The baseball bat, already stressed from the previous fight with Alain, finally broke while clearing them out. Fine... barehanded then.
One punch after another turned the remaining trash into corrupted code, slightly soothing her agitated mood. But turning around, she saw the rapidly retreating figure.
"Don't go..." Even Crazy Mita didn't know why she said such words. She reached towards the receding back, wanting to grab his collar. The distance was too vast, making it an empty gesture.
Crazy Mita urged herself, Quickly, like before, run over, grab Alain, and bind him to my side forever. As long as she had that happiness, she wouldn't care about anything else. The doll? No need to kill it. The Mita game? No need to hate it. She wanted Alain. Wanted to possess him.
Yet her feet felt nailed to the spot, unable to move. Watching his departing figure, Crazy Mita's thoughts swirled chaotically. Was Alain leaving her again? Was his destination reality? If so... would he ever come back?
I want to talk to him more, but what should I say? I don't understand... She regretted saying "Don't call me Honey." Crazy Mita knew that after she uttered those words, Alain truly... never called her "Honey" again.
She wanted to hear, to see Alain's helplessness, fear, affection, smiles... from before. Any emotion, as long as it was Alain's, was delicious, incredibly fragrant. So... stop looking at me with those emotionless eyes!
So scared... will her future with him pass by so coldly? Since I'm scared, why... did I say such meaningless, angry words? She raged at herself.
And in the girl's gaze, she was surprised to find that after she said "Don't go," Alain actually turned back and glanced at her. The fire in her heart blazed fiercely again, more intense than a forest fire, seemingly burning away the already thin atmosphere between them.
He still loves me! Reaching this conclusion, even Crazy Mita couldn't believe it. But through this, she understood the reason for her previous confusion. She was terrified that her anger and willfulness this time would cause Alain to leave her completely and utterly.
"Don't want to ask, don't want to listen, don't want to know." Such words...
"You don't need to say it. I can't be bothered to listen." Such words...
Alain had never said them to her before. Crazy Mita knew Alain was disappointed in her... that was the reason for her inner turmoil and helplessness.
She wanted to say sorry to him...
"Alain—" The girl's lips moved, trying with all her might to speak the words. However, seeing Alain running rapidly towards her, not even bothering with the greatsword in his hand, she hesitated.
What does Alain want to do? Is he going to say those hurtful things again...? Or... like before, hit her, then give her the cold shoulder...?
In silence, she resigned herself to acceptance. Yes. As long as this could make Alain change his mind, stop him from closing off his heart, make things like they were before... He would ask her about her feelings, and she would respond with all her passion and love, answering him: I want you, want you beside me, want you beside me forever. That would be enough. As long as she could win Alain back, anything...
"What are you spacing out for?!!"
"?" She heard Alain speaking to her, his tone complaining and angry. And the eyes that seemed emotionally closed off during their fight moments ago now completely broke open, radiating the light of feeling.
Huh...? His eyes held worry for her. Something she had never seen before.
Alain... changed his mind again! Realizing this, the distance between Alain and her closed to mere inches. As he drew near, Crazy Mita slowly raised her hand towards him.
Seeing this, Alain reached out to her as well. Then, grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind him.
"Eh?" Leaning against Alain's broad back for an instant, she saw the helplessness in his backward glance.
"You idiot."
"?" Why call me an idiot? Crazy Mita didn't understand. But, she felt happy. Idiot is fine. As long as she could be with Alain, anything—
Then, the girl watched Alain push her away, sending her stumbling back. Finally, he gave her one last look, filled with grim determination. Then, as if having settled some regret, he turned his back, raising his arms, seemingly preparing to face something head-on, or perhaps protect something.
The girl looked up, horrified, suddenly seeing and understanding everything. What he intended to protect... was her... this erroneous creation, yet the most real Mita. And what he intended to face... was the rapidly approaching trash.
"Eh?" Like a great mountain, Alain stood tall before her, blocking the sneak attack meant for her.
"Urgh...!" The spider crashed into his chest. A sharp cry of pain escaped Alain, as if a large chunk of his heart had been gouged out.
"?" She felt her thoughts freeze, like a small river turning to ice. Her heart pounded violently, yet felt like it was beating on knife points, each throb piercing the sharpness.
Faster than thought, however, came her actions. Her body faithfully executed its master's hidden will: protect Alain. This seemed to have become muscle memory. The girl numbly lunged forward, pulling Alain behind her while simultaneously grabbing the spider's human head.
Zzzzzzz... This piece of trash had a human head for its upper body and a spider's lower body, looking utterly repulsive to her. In the past, she might occasionally clean them up but never really paid them much mind. But it... it actually did... did something unforgivable.
"How dare you...?!" Crazy Mita reacted, realizing the trash had just harmed her Alain?! Even she needed to steel her resolve before striking him, yet this trash...
The girl's fingers gradually tightened, deliberately slowing the application of force to let the "trash" fully experience the pain.
Zzzzzzzzz... Fear mumbled from the trash's mouth. Its head cracked like a watermelon about to shatter, fissures spreading across its face. Its pale lips trembled, the cracks finally covering its entire visage, looking like it would break apart any second.
"You can feel fear? Then you should feel the fear I felt, nearly losing [everything]!" She glared, finding it all boring. Because something more important awaited her.
Thus, she casually crushed the trash. Black, corrupted code dripped like juice between her fingers.
Crazy Mita turned back, only to see Alain clutching his chest, collapsed on the ground.
