Anna woke up and stretched, feeling relaxed and satiated. She remembered the wonderful, perfect farewell evening she had spent with Adam, and looked away. Adam was no longer there. She looked at the radio alarm clock on the night stand and saw that it was already eight o'clock in the morning.
She got up leisurely and went to the shower. Then she went into the dining room and there was no one else there, but the table with the leftovers showed that it had been busy. Anna went into the kitchen. She greeted the cook and sat down after pouring herself a cup of coffee.
"Where's Adam, Judith?" Anna asked without interest.
The cook stared at her for a while, recriminating, before answering.
"He's gone out." She said, looking away and starting to work the stove.
"Will he be long? Do you know where he went?"
"That, I can't say." She replied, looking at the pans.
Anna was too anxious to make the call to her family to realize that the cook's face and eyes indicated danger. She was just relieved that Adam wasn't home.
She finished her coffee and went to her office, locking the door from the inside. She took out her cell phone, which she kept in the pocket of her jeans, and made the call. On the first ring, Max answered.
"Are you ready, Anna?"
"I can't wait to be in your arms again. You don't know how long I've waited for this moment."
"Me too. I need you like you're my oxygen. Tell me you're ready and I'll come and get you."
"I think now would be the best time for that. Adam isn't home, and it looks like he'll be a while, as I don't see any of the werewolves around. What should I do?"
"Adonis will come to you. I'm getting to the estate. But I'm stuck in a traffic jam. That certainly wasn't in our plans."
"I..." Anna was saying, when suddenly the cell phone was violently snatched from her hands, and she looked startled at Adam, who stared at her coldly, and then slapped her across the face.
When Anna looked at him and put her hand to her face, which was burning from the assault, Adam put the cell phone to his ear.
"Those were the last words you heard from her, brother. Anna won't be mine or yours."
"Adam... Don't do anything to her or..." Maxwell's voice was desperate.
"Or what? Don't be an idiot, Max. Did you think you could fool me? What fools you are!" Adam said and hung up the cell phone, throwing it on the floor, stomping on it hard, breaking it and leaving it in crumbs. Only then did he turn to Anna. "No one has ever betrayed me in such a disgusting way, Anna. How many times have I warned you that nothing escapes my eyes and ears?"
"I didn't see you... The cook said..."
"She said what I told her to, she said. I was hiding behind the bookcase. You were so sure that I wasn't at home that you didn't even realize I was here all the time."
"You were watching me?"
"I didn't even have to! Your look of joy yesterday, when your son was leaving, and the night you said goodbye... Only a fool wouldn't realize your intentions. And of course, I heard your entire conversation with your father." He pointed to his own ear, demonstrating that his hearing knew no bounds.
Anna pulled herself together and looked at him seriously.
"So there's no point in lying to you, Adam. That's just it. I love Max, and I choose him to live with me. You have to grow up, become a real man, become the pants you wear, and understand that not everything you want can be yours. Are you going to hold me here against my will? Do you really think that's going to change my love for Max? Do you really think that this is the best way to conquer a woman?"
Adam shook his head.
"I've already done everything in my power to win you over. To make you want to share your life with me forever. But now I don't want to anymore. You don't know how much I hate you right now."
"Then let me go. You'll never have to look at my face again."
"And let you be happy with my brother while I drown in pain? No, Anna! My brother won't be happy, apart from my happiness, I know him. We have a connection that you'll never understand. And as for you... You can be sure, you won't feel anything anymore!"
"What are you thinking of doing?"
"Something I should have done as soon as I found you and knew you'd hidden my son from me." Adam said and grabbed her by the arm, violently, practically dragging her out of the mansion.
He opened the door of the car that was parked in front of the gate and pushed her inside. He turned around and Alexandre opened the gate to let him out.
Anna saw that Alexandre's eyes were frightened and knew that Adam was going to do something very bad to her.
Anna called out for help, but Alexandre just ducked his head cowardly as the car passed him.
Adam remained serious as he drove at full speed. Anna recognized the road they were following. It was the road that led to the place where she had tortured and walled up Sarah.
Adam didn't stop when the voice on the radio insistently called out to him. He sped down the bumpy road.
Anna couldn't care less about the bumps she suffered with every pothole they passed. All she could think about was that he would wall her up as a painful end for both of them.
He finally stopped in front of the house and pulled her close to an avocado tree. There was a shovel there. He pushed it towards the tree and pointed the rifle at it.
"Start digging!"
Anna looked at him puzzled.
"Adam..."
"Shut up! Or I'll blow your brains out right now, and then I'll go after your family. Tayme gave me the address of where you would be. This time I'm going to really hurt them, Anna! Don't provoke me! Obey me!"
