CHAPTER 9: Bringing Susan Home.
Finally, Mia arrived home with Susan. They stepped out of the car and entered the house. As soon as Susan walked in, she looked around and exclaimed,
"Wow! Your house is so interesting!"
Her face was filled with amusement.
Mia remained silent, curious about what Susan would say next, even though she knew it might annoy her.
"My bathroom is bigger than your entire house combined," Susan said with a smile.
"Really now, I see," Mia said with a calm face.
But in the next moment, she suddenly grabbed Susan's hands and started dragging her out of the house.
When Susan realized what was happening, she began struggling with all her might.
"What are you doing? Let me go! Let me go!" she shouted repeatedly.
"If you don't let me go, I'll get angry," Susan threatened, pretending to be furious.
Mia's expression shifted to amusement mixed with anger.
"Are you seriously threatening me right now? In my own house, seriously? You're unbelievable!" Mia exclaimed.
"Since you have the audacity to threaten me here, I'll really drag you out now. I was playing around earlier, but now I'm dead serious about it," Mia said, her determination evident.
As Mia continued to drag her, Susan pretended to be hurt.
"Ah, ah, ah! Please let me go; you're hurting me!" she cried out.
Mia just smiled wickedly.
"Pretend all you want, but I won't let you go. Do you think I'll fall for your acting, drama queen?"
Susan continued to struggle, even placing one hand on the wall to resist Mia's pull.
"Ouch, ouch! You're really hurting me!" she exclaimed, still pretending to be in distress
As Mia watched Susan's reactions, she started to hesitate, wondering if she was hurting her. She considered letting her go but remembered how much of a drama queen Susan could be. Mia decided to keep dragging her out.
Susan, realizing her pitiful act wasn't working, changed tactics and began begging.
"Wifey, please let me go, will you? Didn't I tell you I lose my senses sometimes? You shouldn't take my words to heart. You know me, you know how crazy I can get sometimes, huh?"
Susan pleaded, still struggling to free herself from Mia's grasp. Mia responded sarcastically,
"I do know how crazy you can get, which is why I'm dragging you out of my house so you can go back to your bathroom that's bigger than my entire house combined. I'm doing you a favor, don't you know?"
When Susan heard this, she got scared and struggled even harder, making it difficult for Mia to hold onto her.
"No, no, no, no! Let me go, please let me go! I made a mistake, please forgive me this once, okay? Your royal highness, my queen, my cute best friend, my one and only wifey," Susan said, buttering Mia up and pleading with her.
Mia, getting tired of holding Susan, said,
"Stop buttering me up; I won't fall for it."
Susan was out of ideas, but then a mischievous thought struck her. She smiled to herself evilly and started acting like the drama queen she was.
"잠깐만, 잠깐만요!" (Jamkkanman, Jamkkanmanyo - Wait a minute in Korean) Susan shouted, breathing heavily and acting like she was about to collapse.
When Mia noticed this, she loosened her grip, and Susan took advantage of the momentary distraction to free herself.
Susan immediately ran to the sofa and complained,
"Why don't you have any sense of humor? Can't you even take a little joke?" She said while rubbing the hand Mia had held onto. Mia rolled her eyes and didn't bother responding.
Mia then realized she'd been tricked again, she got angry but was too exhausted to do anything.
She sat down on the ground, trying to calm her heavy breathing.
After composing herself, she stood up, got a glass of water, and sat down beside Susan. They both remained silent for a while before Mia asked,
"Don't get me wrong about what am about to ask you. But why didn't you agree to the marriage? I mean, the guy family you were supposed to marry into is probably as rich as your family or even richer. So, why didn't you just go for it?"
"Don't say it's because of love; we all know love is a scam, a fantasy humans deceive themselves with. Instead of love, let's say attraction – we get attracted to the opposite gender and foolishly call it love. Also don't you say this to "I quote-I'm not in love with him' or 'I don't want a loveless marriage.' Don't say any of that; it would be a useless excuse to me actually. I believe marriage is about compromise, so tell me why you didn't just agree. This is what you rich people do, right? Arranged marriages, loveless marriages, marriages just for the family? You should have been expecting all that, given your background," Mia said matter-of-factly.
"Infact i believe marriage is all about compromise. So tell me why didn't you just agree."
Susan was silent for a while before responding seriously.
"What you said is true but not entirely true."
Susan looked at Mia, who seemed confused by her statement. Susan elaborated,
"You see, there are rich families that do what you said, and unfortunately, my family is a typical example. However, you shouldn't generalize it. Some families let their children marry the person of their choice, while others don't. They might think the person their child chose is below their family standards, so they arrange marriages to someone of the same standard. And then there are families like mine, looking to marry off their children to improve their family's status."
"I refused to get married to that guy not because of the arranged marriage thing, like you said I should be expecting that. It's just that I did my research and found out that the guy I'm supposed to marry is London's most infamous playboy. He's dated and dumped girls like he is drinking water. Can you imagine being in a marriage with someone like that?" Susan explained, looking at Mia.
"You know how crazy I am, but I don't think I'm crazy enough to get involved with someone like that. If I were a crazy person, I might've loved to tame him, but I don't think I'm that crazy. Marrying him? Forget it. I'd regret it if I entered into such a marriage, and it wouldn't be easy to get out of it,"
Susan said, explaining her perspective.
Mia nodded her head in understanding.
"And who knows, he might still continue his playboy lifestyle and even have illegitimate children. I couldn't imagine myself in that kind of marriage or living that kind of life," Susan concluded.
Mia responded,
"I get your point, and I understand where you're coming from. Don't worry, you can stay here for as long as you want. This is your home, okay?" Mia said, opening her arms for a hug.
Susan smiled gratefully and hugged Mia back.
