Dark smoke filled the chamber as the debris fell apart and Shin failed to take the upper hand. He pulled the white tape band from his pocket, wiped the blood from his mouth, and skidded backward.
All Might had handed each squad a white tape band, which they were to use in a scenario where you could wrap it around any portion of your opponent's body to win. Shin was aware of the pushback.
He was aware of his predicament and likely had already fallen short against Katsuki Bakugo. Shin was holding the white tape band in his left palm, and Bakugo could sense the strain radiating from him.
Boom!!
Bakugo propelled himself forward while adjusting his hands behind his back, sending tiny sparks flying from his palms. He grinned broadly when his legs slammed into Shin's.
Shin tried to wrap the band around him by grabbing his leg. Bakugo slipped out of Shin's hold in midair, but Shin refused to give up. He braced himself and rushed forward, using his quirk again. The strings surged from his fingertips as he willed them to. They moved quickly and caught Bakugou on a web.
"Fuck!" Bakugo hissed and blew away the strings wrapped around his body.
Shin shot some string bullets at Bakugo, who moved swiftly, dodging all the attacks.
"He's stubborn," Shin grunted.
Sweat drifted down their brows. They were breathing heavily, glaring at each other. Bakugo's palms ignited with small sparks while Shin took his stance, ready for round two.
"Let's finish this, hero!" Bakugo snarled, cracking his shoulders.
"Let's end this, villain!"
Both charged at each other, but Shin had received more damage than he had dealt. Bakugo didn't suffer any threatening wounds, and neither did Shin.
Shin's body was covered in blood and bruises from the continuous attacks by his opponents, which had put him at a huge disadvantage since the battle royale began.
All Might's hands flickered as he tried to convince himself to take action and stop the kids from hurting themselves further, but… he just couldn't do it. He gritted his teeth, holding the small microphone in his huge hands, glancing at them without interrupting their battle.
"Are they training or fighting for real?"
"Bakugo is harsh."
The atmosphere filled with chatter from the monitor room as they watched the fight.
Bakugo's gauntlet flickered red. A villainous smile crept across his face as he leaped forward, giving it everything he had.
Regardless, Shin did the same and activated his quirk to give it his all.
Both leaped forward. Bakugo's palms radiated immense heat, sparks and smoke emitting as they collided with Shin's strings.
**Boom!!**
The entire structure around them flared up due to the impact of their attacks, and smoke filled the whole atmosphere.
Tension in the monitor room was high, but silence fell as they stared at the projector.
The smoke died down after a short while, and the one left standing was Bakugo. His body was drenched in blood, right hand raised while he breathed heavily.
His vision was getting blurry, but he stood upright with every ounce of strength in his legs, glancing at Shin, who lay beneath him, covered in bruises.
Bakugo had won, but he felt uneasy. Something still bothered him as he watched the bald boy staring up at him, unconscious.
Bakugo lowered his hand gradually and sat on the floor, resting his back against the wall, leaving the rest to his teammate to deal with the final obstacle and secure victory.
…
Jiro heard a loud uproar, followed by a sudden explosion that made her jerk and cover her ears. She could already sense something was wrong up there, but she had no choice but to keep moving forward.
She stopped in her tracks, connecting her earlobes to the ground, tracking any sound coming from Mina.
"Found you, Mina," she whispered and advanced without worrying about Shin—unaware that he had already been defeated by Katsuki Bakugo.
After wandering for a while through the huge structure, she reached the villain base where Mina was guarding the nuclear weapon.
Taking their stances, they charged at each other. Mina used her quirk to skate and maneuver away from Jiro's attack.
Mina immediately dipped her hand into her pocket, bringing out the tape band to capture Jiro.
After some time of maneuvering and exchanging attacks, Mina managed to use the tape to bind Jiro's fist. The 15-minute timer that tracked the match signaled the end of the section as the countdown finished.
All Might's voice rang throughout the structure.
"That's the end of the battle royale. The fight between Team A and C has come to an end. The victory goes to... Team A," he announced.
"I won! We won!" Mina cried joyfully, while Jiro just sat down on the ground.
"Shin lost to Bakugo, and I lost to you. Congrats on the win, Mina."
"Thank you, Jiro. Now get your ass up—let's meet the others."
"Yeah."
Mina helped Jiro to her feet, and both made their way to the monitor room to meet All Might and the rest.
"Hmph. She's got some balls," Bakugo smirked when All Might announced their team as the winner, realizing that his teammate Mina had defeated Jiro. "Now, let's get your ass to Recovery Girl."
Bakugo stood from his spot, helped Shin to his knees, and they made their way to All Might. Before they could get there, All Might immediately sprinted from the control room to meet them.
"Hm? All Might?" Shin whispered.
"Don't speak, young Shin. Let's get you treated first. You did great. You really showed some balls fighting against young Bakugo." All Might gave him a thumbs up before turning to Bakugo.
"Young Bakugo," All Might said, "you did great, but... it's not all about power if you want to become a great hero. You need to work as a team, think, and strategize like a hero."
"Tsk. Whatever."
All Might lifted Shin from Bakugo's shoulder and laid him on a gurney as the robots carried him away to Recovery Girl.
"Congrats on the win, Bakugo," Kaminari welcomed him back.
"Mina! I missed you!" Uraraka exclaimed, flinging herself at Mina.
All Might clapped his hands together to get everyone's attention.
"Next up is Team B and Team E. We'll be using the other building for the rest of the test since the first one is all messed up."
"Okay!"
Both teams made their way to the building as the timer began its countdown and the battle commenced.
Shortly after, the match ended quickly, without the full 15-minute duration, and so did the next team's match.
The battle royale finally came to an end after a few hours. All Might pointed out everyone's mistakes as they rewound each battle on the projector.
"Get changed and head to your classroom for your afternoon lectures," All Might instructed.
"Yes, sir!"
"All Might!"
"Yes?"
"How about Shin? Will he be okay?"
"He'll be fine once he gets some rest after Recovery Girl's treatment."
"Really? That's good to hear."
The walk to the classroom was filled with amazement and chatter. They discussed the test, what they had learned, and what they were capable of doing.
"Hey guys, who do you think would win between the two strongest in our class?"
"You mean Bakugo and Todoroki?"
"Yeah."
"Hmph, that's really hard to answer, but… I think Bakugo would win. Seeing him fight against Shin, I think he's way stronger than that."
"And don't forget Todoroki freezing the whole building and easily defeating his opponents without even touching them."
"That's true. Well, we'll find out who's stronger soon enough."
"Shut up, you extras! Don't compare me with that ice-and-fire freak!"
"Don't get too worked up, Bakugo. They're only teasing you. And seeing the kind of person you are—you're way too easy to tease."
"Shut up, nerd! Or do you want to get killed?! Huh?!"
Their walk to the classroom was lively as All Might quietly dashed away from the group to Recovery Girl's office to check on young Shin.
*'Where am I?'* Shin's vision blurred as he glanced at the dim ceiling lights and suddenly sat up from the bed.
"You're awake?" Recovery Girl asked.
"How long was I out?"
"A few hours. You should probably rest a bit more. Lectures are already over for the day."
*'Damn it,'* he thought as the door slid open to reveal a huge figure—All Might.
"All Might?"
"You're awake, young Shin? Thank goodness."
"Woke up a few minutes ago."
"That's good to hear. Seeing the state you're in, I think in a few minutes you'll be able to get home and prepare for Monday's lecture."
"Yeah."
"Don't worry about it, young Shin. Take your time and rest. I've already spoken with your homeroom teacher about your condition."
"Thanks a lot, All Might. I appreciate it."
"Sure." All Might coughed loudly, his voice echoing throughout Recovery Girl's office. She instantly realized what was happening.
"You should go and rest, All Might. I'll take care of the rest."
"Thank you so much, Recovery Girl." All Might gave her a thumbs up before turning to Shin. "I'll be going now."
In an instant, All Might sped off from the office at a respectable pace, causing the breeze radiating from him to scatter papers and documents over the space.
